Re: Screening units discussion

Nah not the entire table, just big pieces of terrain. It's really not that abstract to be honest. We have one or two of such "forests" in my group as well and we used to have such terrain in our flgs too back when I still went there to play. Whatever dude; it is utterly specific to your g...

Re: Screening units discussion

If even a single model is out of terrain the whole unit does not benefit. So those terrain pieces would all have to be spaced 2" apart or less. At which point i think you have declared the entire table to be terrain, which is fine but honestly is not anything I have seen in normal games.

Re: Screening units discussion

Yes that breakdown might work better.

I would not bother with mentioning cover saves on screening units, their job is to spread out across the table not to clump up together in cover. The new rules on cover mean that a screening unit will hardly ever benefit while doing their job.

Beyond the fringe

So with a new set of rules and all my old images getting eaten by changes to hosting policies I think it may be time to launch into a new project log. My project to launch into newhammer will be themed on D'yanoi Sept. The concept will be of a small Cadre put together to go deep into uncontrolled sp...

Re: Forgeworld Hammerhead variant turrets

Well I wasn't sure whether to post it in General Discussion or here so if it's the wrong place, just move it. :P So I started getting somewhat interested in the Forgeworld Hammerhead options since those are just simple weapon swaps instead of whole models which I'm more content with (for some reaso...

Re: Screening units discussion

I feel like Kroot are at least better for screening than Fire Warriors or Pathfinders. There's some weird cognitive dissonance going on with using a unit that's supposed to be screened instead as a screening unit! I know what you mean but I am seriously considering pathfinders for the job. It is no...

Re: Screening units discussion

Screening units are so important in new warhammer that we really should try to put together a decent resource for players new to the edition or new to Tau. If I were to take an initial try at this I would probably break down the options a little into categories. So as an example without all the pros...

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

My Kroot Carnivores are the running joke of my gaming group - with 'running' being the operative word. I have lost the entire unit to morale failure (7E) and battle shock (8E) in a high proportion of games (probably approaching 50%). In some ways that is no surprise - they are a screening unit and ...

Panzer wrote:So they were unharmed. Not sure why you assume the Pathfinder would've lost models when the Kroot didn't in that szenario. ;)

Because Kroot are cheaper, for equal points you get more Kroot to start with.

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

If he killed 5 of your 10 Kroot, how did the Kroot have 20 shots though? The centre unit was wiped by his turn 1 charge. The left flank unit had wheeled round with the pre-game move so he chose not to gamble on also declaring a charge on them, they were unharmed and shooting at full strength. The r...

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

In this case having 8 pathfinders instead of 10 Kroot would have left me with just 3 in the blocking unit and his charge would also have wiped out the gun drones by going through the gap created. 5 surviving Kroot blocked that. I am not saying - nor is the draft article - that Kroot are the best scr...

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

Sounds awesome but I think Shield Drones or Kroot hounds could have done it just as well as Kroot carnivours. I mean if all the Kroot did was getting killed then Kroot hounds do that for less points so you could take more and Shield Drones even have a chance to survive against Mortal wounds (not to...

Re: Screening units discussion

I think a lot of this is situational - or meta-specific if you prefer that term. I have screening units against two things - deep strike threats and assault threats. In my games so far none of these that I have encountered have had or been accompanied by large numbers of low quality weapons such as ...

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

As a contrast to the quote I just posted. Latest game against 'Nids : a full-on assault army with a big bunch of Genestealers and just massed spore mines and Smite to clear the chaff. He got in position for a turn 1 charge but only managed kill half of the key screening unit ahead of the main charge...

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

Copied across from another discussion as I think it informs this article Current list of screening units Drones: 8ppm, high damage output, relatively durable (for a screening unit). Pathfinders: 8ppm, decent damage output, average durability, markerlights. Fire warriors: 8ppm, decent damage output, ...

Re: New 8th FAQ

Gun drones cannot make a pre-game move that moves up your opponents deep striking units another 7" That's exactly what I wrote. Hell you even quoted it lol Honestly there was no point in taking kroot even before the latest FAQ. If you want the 7" pre game move take pathfinders. They have ...

Re: New 8th FAQ

+2 pts a model for a screening unit though is a big difference, gun drones die easy enough like kroot. Shield drones just became the toughest model for their cost in the game? Not by a long way, nothing competes with Brimstone Horrors for that. Shield drones got good enough to seriously consider ta...

Page 215 – Sudden Death Change point 2 to read: ‘If at the end of any turn after the first battle round, one player has no models on the battlefield, the game ends immediately and their opponent automatically wins a crushing victory. When determining if a player has any units on the battlefield, do...
