Re: how do you beat this with tau

I would not call it tailoring if you decide adapt your list to a smite-heavy meta - the resulting list would maybe have enough durability to win out on the mission. One of the key ways to mitigate smite is to put a larger number of cheap wounds on the table - points per wound becomes a useful metric...

Re: how do you beat this with tau

i just played a 2k game against the below and basically got crushed. what cam tau do against such reckless hate. i cant really think of a way to win barring using an all drone army which probably wont be good against otger armies thoughts? Changeling Herald on disc 3 Tzeentch Daemon princes 4 Malef...

Re: Tau Power level abuse 100PL

Yeah but the difference is that with points GW could theoretically finetune things way better to achieve a better balancing than they can with PL. ^^ Call me when it happens and I will gladly change my mind :D The discrepancies between PL and Points do not always mean PL is broken. I could do a FW ...

Re: Tau Power level abuse 100PL

You can certainly come up with some skewed lists with PL. of course one glance at a tournament's top tables will tell you that you can do the same with points - just that things like brimstone/malefic lord spam are more limited by faction. If you are playing a tournament then gaming the system - wha...

Re: Early Version of the Strike Team tactica 8e

And don't forget if your playing with power level then always take the support turret because it costs 0 extra power (a.k.a it's FREE) :D If you look closely at the power level costs the turret is included in the cost of the basic unit, this is why a further 5 Fire Warriors in a Strike Team are che...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Lets not blow this out of proportion. First of all, Veterans are only capable of carrying up to 3 Plasma Guns. Special Weapons teams are also only capable of 3 special weapons. Command Squads are capable of taking 4, but are limited to 1 per Officer. So the worst case scenario is the Command Squad....

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

Well I don't doubt that 20 are better than 10 but I doubt that 20 are better than 2x10. :P Situationally they are better; much better. It is all to do with the casualty removal rules in 8th which you can definitely use to your advantage. The situation generally comes down to "I need to stop th...

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

Setting off on a different path to the discussion we have been having - my point a while back about why larger units are good screens has been explained far better than I did with diagrams here http://www.3plusplus.net/2017/09/conscripts-value-large-units-8th-edition/#more-13720 Now that article is ...

Re: Optimal drone squad size ?

It depends on scenario and what you are using them for. If your scenario has classic kill points then small units are a liability - it is better to have larger units and find ways (e.g. Aun'Va) to mitigate the problems with that. If there are no kill points or it is power level based then drone squa...

Re: 2000 points competitive tournament list

Can't deny the brutal efficiency of that list. With AM in the ascendency I can see why the massed missile pod commanders are so valuable. It would be interesting to hear how that game went because just from looking at the list it almost looks designed to blow a hole in the units (probably mortar tea...

Re: Crazy hoard tau 2k points

I think this list archetype has real potential, although I do feel you really need to commit to it. One of the keys to this is to neuter the killing power of a lot of the bigger guns in the game by giving them no targets at all with multiple wounds for their high damage to do work on. The Hammerhead...

Re: Tidehunter Contingent: Judgement: 2000pt ITC List

I tend to find the Hammerhead a little under-gunned. If you can find some suitable parts and do not mind kit-bashing (or have access to the originals somehow) the Forgeworld turrets can IMO give a better firepower balance for our tanks. Longstrike - Railgun Hammerhead 2 x HYMP Hammerhead 2 x HYMP Fe...

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

Yeah, no. Hitting like a Marine without any proper melee weapon or a lot of attacks is nothing worth mentioning. Against GEQ you'd do about 2 unsaved wounds if you manage to get 10 Kroot to attack (remember that they die like flies). At the numbers you'd normally see GEQ units 2 dead doesn't mean m...

Honestly; no. Trying to re-set the whole game to the points efficiency of AM would almost certainly be a mistake. AM need fixing.

Re: Fire warriors vs guardsmen are they too cheap?

Well it could maybe help against Conscript spam (though I'm not so sure about that either) but then you'd have spend a lot of points to 'counter' one specific list while having something useless against CSM or C:SM etc. It's not like we are good enough to afford spending a few hundred points to cou...

Re: Fire warriors vs guardsmen are they too cheap?

Sniper drones are so important vs guard because the characters make the army if can stop the orders coming through it halves the firepower of guardsmen, if the Commander has a squad with him to take bullets you can focus some firewarrior shooting on them as no protection using character status then...

Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

I have been really surprised by the effectiveness of a few kroot squads when I brought them. I've been using them in 3 squads of 10 with either a shaper or hoverdrone ethereal. They offer amazing flank coverage and are cheap enough to throw around into whatever is coming your way. The shaper is rea...

Re: Why are the Krootox and Shapers uncompetitive?

Krootox are far from terrible but nor are they the best option in the codex so with several competing options that are better overall they can not really be considered competitive. The real problem with Krootox is not their statline and points cost so much as the Cavalry type - this obstructs nearly...
