Re: The Y'Vahra - A tactica

f you are not getting the Y'Vahra into 8" of a valuable target and Nova Charging the weapons every turn then it is not doing its job. Honestly this is the best advice you can give. About not just the Y'vahra, really any unit. Units need to be relevant and performing their roles every turn. Max...

Re: Farsight: Shadow of the Manta

Just realized you can’t even use it with Kroot....only works on TAU SEPT INFANTRY....and sadly, Kroot don’t have a SEPT keyword....our characters are downright demoralizing.... Could be good with Breachers though! You are correct. Sadly the only HQs that really benefit Kroot are Ethereals and Comma...

Re: The Y'Vahra - A tactica

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and feedback. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve it? Thanks again, R'Kai i think some more discussion of the Nova Charge. Realistically we can mention them all but if you are not getting the Y'Vahra into 8" of a valuable target and Nova Charging the...

Re: The Y'Vahra - A tactica

I think that is an excellent article which should be included in the sticky introduction article. The general thrust of the article - the Y'Vahra justifies building a list around it and works best when you do - is in my opinion spot-on. Perhaps because I have mostly been using mine against really to...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Markerlights really need a get-out clause for the double-jeopardy of targets with negative penalties to hit. If that gets fixed then T'au armies that depend on them would be viable rather than hopelessly frustrating to play in the bad (but common) match-ups where opponents impose free army-wide pen...

Re: Kroot painting?

Kroot take washes very well - Agrax Earthshade is your friend. I went through amazing amounts of the stuff putting together my kroot horde. Obviously if you are on a different colour palette for your kroot (and with their variable biology pretty much anything goes that looks good) then use a differe...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

I have mostly been watching on in wonder at the ever growing mega-thread that this has become. This looked like a decent place to try to jump in. I've been thinking to changes for T'aus that woud be welcome in the new codex and help both internal and external balance. Main Tau issues currently are l...

Re: Ukrainian battlesuits

They look nice enough, I would need to see some pictures from other angles to be sure. Quite reminiscent of the XV9 and there is the real issue, for similar money I could just get an XV9 which I already know I love the look of from almost any angle. I am very glad they have branched out away from th...

Re: Fighting chaos

Was wondering how many people play against chaos here? With the new daemon codex coming out turn one charges by 30 man blood daemons or even primarchs is an unavoidable part of the game. Do we just have to take interceptor now on everything? This is a huge problem that we'll have to learn to deal w...

Re: Tournament list help

Hi, do you know what format the tournament is?

For building Tau armies in particular it is really important to understand the missions and where to both gain and give up VP. Without knowing what they are doing with Kill Points it is very hard to give useful advice.

Re: It it worth it to field small numbers of vehicles?

Vehicles in 8th are really the same as any higher toughness high wound model so I don’t think you need to differentiate much between vehicles and our big suits. In profile that is true but lacking the Battlesuit keyword really hurts our vehicles - because we cannot throw a hapless Shield Drone in f...

Re: It it worth it to field small numbers of vehicles?

In anything resembling a competitive game I think you either go big or go home with Tau Vehicles. Anything less than a full mech list just gives a typical Marine player a nice juicy target for all their Krak Missiles and Lascannon. With all the re-rolls they get that is a quick way to see your vehic...

Re: ITC competitive T'au (can we hang?)

I was #1 in the itc for a good chunk of the year. It started sliding when the codexes came out. Now I am currently in 13th or 14th. I have one more gt I will be attending before LVO so we will see how that goes. Tau can hang and the new itc missions as well as the chapter approved goodies will help...

Re: Pure Theory: Designing an "Optimal" Tau List?

When I saw there was going to be an ITC tournament local to me I theory-hammered out a list which is a bit different but which I am fairly confident would hang tough. It is basically a fast moving T'au assault list :dead: There is absolutely no chance I would actually take this to a tournament. I pl...

Re: ITC competitive T'au (can we hang?)

(disclaimer : I am not the sort of player who would ever go to LVO. I like to play one or two tournaments a year and do well in them but would not pretend to be a top tier player) The honest answer is that T'au as they are currently cannot hang with the top tier lists using a TAC list. We can try to...

Re: Help a new Tau player

As you do have some experience with the game let's start looking at some T'au combos you need to understand and work with. The Y'Vahra is an absolute terror weapon which will vaporise whole units of Terminators at a time if you can keep it alive. Its main weapon is the flamer and that ignores to-hit...

Re: Tau bland in 8th?

There are things which did not work that well in the transition to 8th but I do not think Tau are bland. If I look at this phase by phase 1. Movement: On balance I think Tau got better in the movement phase, none of our units are really slow and quite a few are fast. Fly really helps of course. 2. P...
