Re: Farsight weapon idea

Moving outside the realm of GW miniatures, we have a few other options as well. There are many 3rd party bitz makers, and a little google-fu will get you their names (oddly, the ones that I like the most don't have much in the way of scythe-based weapons) here is a good place to start looking though...

Re: Sept color thoughts? Colors galore!

One of the things I really like about the Tau lore is that they often mix-and-match Cadres in their theatres to get the force with the best effect. That in turn allows a very diverse paint scheme to be used across the army. Your mounted firewarriors and other Armor assets may be from Sa'cea, while y...

I did not check to make sure if the chart posted above matched, but here is the official conversion chart from GW

Re: Kroot vultures count as Vespids

For the Neutron Blaster I would model the rifles as shotguns instead (because why not a shotgun?). I am with coffeegrunt on the wings, and for the armor save/toughness you could simply give them some kind of breastplate armor, though I do believe that the Kroot would then have difficulty moving abou...

Re: Suggestions for assaulty allies needed?

I play Blood Angels as my alternate to Tau, and so would strongly suggest them if you wanted to make an assault element. You want assault marines? Well, they have them as troops so no need to fret about fitting them into your allies list. There is something very psychologically scarring about seeing...

Re: what does the future hold? your thoughts please.

Commenting on the card-based objective system for a moment: I like the idea of a secret objective above and beyond the standard goal of the mission itself. It'll give options for game play beyond just 'kill all enemies.' Deadzone uses a card-based system to give each player their own mission, and it...

Re: what does the future hold? your thoughts please.

From what I've been seeing there are no percentages in the FOC, and I havent seen anything related to the majority of what amarktho has posted. I have seen the following: Rumors! via an anonymous source on Faeit 212 The FoC chart is still in the new 40k edition and if you follow it you have what is ...

Re: Attached Gun-Drone Question

@Kael'yn, if you must visualize it, then the shots are being taken while the enemy is advancing, rather than when they are at their current location. The flamer can then be used when the enemy closes to within 8" (I believe that is the length of the flamer template) @wilderun The upgrade is esp...

Re: Attached Gun-Drone Question

We have always read the rule as (brackets added to separate clauses): "[all friendly models] with this special rule [in units within 6"] of the [charging units target]" When parsed out in clauses like this, it says that if a unit has one model within 6" of the charged unit, all o...

Re: Attached Gun-Drone Question

Without my books in front of me, I would say yes. Essentially, the drones are passengers located at the front 'wing' tips of the chassis, though they behave a little differently in that they cannot re-embark nor can they survive the destruction of their parent vehicle if they are still onboard. Beca...

Another thing you could do is go through the Lexicanum pages on the Tau. I have found that Lexicanum.com tends to be a very good wikipedia-level source for all 40k things and return to it often.

Re: Mij'aan's Unnamed Cadre: Work in progress

Before fully agreeing with Rifflestein on the red, I would like to see a Firewarrior Shas'ui painted with the red shoulder guard and some red sept markings as an example of the 'final product'. I feel like once the red is a little more spread out rather than just a bright 'LOOK AT ME' sign on a sing...

Re: Tau Numeric base

Real world example, I don't know if it helps or hinders your example. USMC uses 4 'unit' blocks as the basis of its organization. A fireteam is 4 men, a squad 3 teams and 1 leader, a platoon (should be) 4 squads, a company 4 platoons (one of them support), a battalion 4 companies (3 line and one of ...

Re: EMP Grenadiers/Commandos

I have wanted to try the extreme of this idea for some time now, but life has gotten in the way of getting towards it. If I can get a willing opponent and some time in the next week or so, I will try to proxy the list and get some feedback on how it works out.

Re: 500 point escalation campaign list

You could do a minimum pathfinder team with one rail rifle for three points more than your marker drone squad, I believe you save two points by taking the Ion rifle but I will have to go double check. By removing the marker drones, you could then take off the target lock from your commander, as I do...

Re: Homing Beacons & Positional Relays

Its a tactic in which you aggressively scout move (infiltrate) towards an opponent to get your pathfinders (Stealth teams) into a position in which they can call down a strong deepstriking unit such as a large crisis team without scattering. I personally greatly enjoy this tactic, especially when us...

Night fighting, pg 124 of BRB (pocket version) - the shooting unit cannot pick a target more than 36in away.. Markerlights, C:TE pg 68 - Immediately before a unit from Codex: Tau Empire shoots at a target that has one or more markerlight counters, it can declare it is using one or more of the marker...
