Re: Kroot Carnivores article - early preview

My Kroot Carnivores are the running joke of my gaming group - with 'running' being the operative word. I have lost the entire unit to morale failure (7E) and battle shock (8E) in a high proportion of games (probably approaching 50%). In some ways that is no surprise - they are a screening unit and I...

Re: Pathfinders: Ion Rifles or Rail Rifles (or none)

Somehow I can't see how they shine against vehicles... yes they can hit/penetrate them more easily, but the -1AP doesn't make their save a lot worse and even if they fail the save a 1D doesn't do much against a 10 wound model.. even 3 D when your lucky enough to have rolled a 5/6 for the Heavy D3 a...

Re: Pathfinders: Ion Rifles or Rail Rifles (or none)

Ion rifle teams shine at anti-vehicle work - and thus against armies that field plenty of vehicles and have the points to field them. In a 500pt game, you may not see a whole load of suitable targets. You may get more mileage from a larger 'naked' pathfinder team. Carbines and markerlights are super...

Re: Tau (Vior'la and T'au) vs Space Marines - 900 points

In a 1,000pt game, I had two primary markerlight sources - a 10 man Pathfinder team and 8 marker drones in a swarm supported by a Battlesuit-mounted drone controller. A fireblade and shas'ui markerlights provide options for adding a 'light to a target that has 4, or putting a 'light on a different t...

Re: 1,000 points - First Tau army (Trying to be competitive)

The Faction keywords for Longstrike are T'au Empire and T'au Sept (not <SEPT>) and strict tournament play might take a view on non T'au Septs fielding HQs such as Longstrike or enforcing keyword rules in a strict sense. You may be right to pause before you invest in models until you know what your ...

Re: Battle report: T'au versus Genestealer Cult (1000 pt)

All unique characters have their wargear included in their cost (not drones because they aren't wargear). All unique characters... except Longstrike :crafty: So - to summarise - All unique characters (except Longstrike) and tactical drones have their wargear included in their cost. In addition, non...

Re: 1,000 points - First Tau army (Trying to be competitive)

Welcome! We welcome mistakes if there is effort being made because they lead to improvement. What ATT dislikes is a lack of effort and carelessness (I think). Thanks for the list. I love theory-crafting cadre builds. Yours looks good. It's a lot easier to give feedback if we know what the mission/to...

Re: Battle report: T'au versus Genestealer Cult (1000 pt)

BTW: Marker drones include the cost of the markerlight. So you were ok. If you check the index, it says that all drones come included with their gear, whereas regular units do not. :-? You are totally right. So.... Darkstrider comes with the markerlight included in the price... but the Cadre Firebl...

Re: Battle report: T'au versus Genestealer Cult (1000 pt)

Notes and observations This was a learning battle. Stu was a good sport. We took it really slowly. Even so, the rules flowed nicely and seemed mostly smooth with few checks required. We were not sure if you could fire pistols having advanced. Given each weapon type has one special rule, we decided ...

Re: 1,000 point casual/learning versus Genestealer Cult

Hi Shymer, Good luck playing against the genestealers. They can get up and close VERY fast, so make sure you put your 2 units of FW on each side of your chars with kroot to screen out the front. Naturally. Character sandwich. I deployed my Pathfinders in a building with two Strike Teams next to the...

1,000 point casual/learning versus Genestealer Cult

Hi all, I started WH40k in 7th edition, but have had an extended break because of ill-health. I'm now back and have been invited to a short learning battle against my friend's Genestealer Cult army using 8th Edition rules. This is my first 8th edition list and I wanted to both dust off my old painte...

Re: Tau 8th ed. mathammer tables

Something I've observed that I thought I would mention to see if others think the same: The new method of calculating wounds based on ratio of weapon Strength and target Toughness has created steps where it seems more efficient to use weapons of a certain strength against targets of a certain toughn...

Re: New to tau, new to 40k

Hello Roddo and welcome. When I started last year it was all quite daunting. I managed to organise a few games with my local group that started small (250 point troops only) and worked upwards in steps. This allowed me to try out a few units at a time and see their performance and work out which sui...

Re: Farsight Enclave, with the new rules, is it allowed?

With regards to Bodyguards. In the old codex, under HQ choices (P98) XV8 Crisis Bodyguard Team entry specifically says "For each Commander in your army (including Commander Farsight ... ) you may include one XV8 Crisis Bodyguard Team. This unit does not take up a Force Organisation slot." ...

14 points screams a Drone of your choice and a Neuroweb System Jammer to me. You will not regret the NSJ, although you may forget about it. It will keep paying you back for your faith in it.

Pretty sure that you can't flat out after passengers disembark? Could be wrong though. Unfortunately you are not wholly correct. BRB p81 "If the vehicle had not moved before the unit disembarked, the vehicle can then move normally. If the vehicle had already moved before the unit disembarked, ...

Re: 3500 point Fairlight Hunter Contingent and support

The battle starts tomorrow at 8am. The troops have been assembled and briefed. Now boarding the dropships. I wish I were going with them - but we've run out of drones and I need to make new ones because tomorrow we are bound to lose many in able defense of our precious warriors. http://i42.photobuck...
