Re: The Academy Project

Hello.

I'd like to contribute if I could. Though I have moved on to Necrons whilst living in the Southern Hemisphere, I played nearly exclusively Tau at some of the UK's big tournies for 2 years. I wrote a piece on the Optimsed Stealth Cadre formation some time back.

Re: Red Knives Cadre: Help Me Win With What I Got!

Hi TauMan - I've been out the game a few months, and only just getting back into it with Necrons (gasp!) but hopefully I can give you a bit of a heads up. Though I will admit, I don't have my tau army books with me here, so I'll be going on memory regards points cost. You have a large collection of ...

CAD & OSC & Firebase Cadre against ETC Lifestar Crons

Had minimal games since my last big few tournaments. Something that I've considered is that the riptide wing is so present in competitive tau lists that our original foot nation, the trusty Firebase support cadre has been punted into the long grass. I used one at Caledonian Uprising, and found it ve...

Re: 1850 Tournament list

Hello As regards to what you should expect to see at tournaments - mega cheese to the max. Especially at the Caledonian Revulotion. Not that that means it wont be fun - I was at caledoninan uprising in January and had a blast - it just means you have to know your army well and get plenty of practice...

Re: 40k FAQ First Draft

.... a unit with at least one Shielded Missile Drone per Riptide is treated as having a 4+ save for the effects of Grav Weapons. So there may be benefits to taking the little frisbees after all. Pretty sure this was the case anyway - you rounded it up to favour the defender for mixed saves against ...

Stronghold V - 1250 pts, one day tournament. Mini report

At the weekend I attended Stronghold, a tournament I started five years ago and have been involved in running since. This year however, being busy getting ready to move to the other side of the planet, some of my gaming friends had taken over the organisation of the event (which takes a lot - hats o...

Re: Countering the Angels of Death supplement

My reading is that you can't intercept the swap position power - both units are already on the board. For me this is the pick of the bunch, dropping some horrible version of a Marinestar right in your face, whilst adding insult to supreme injury by having their chaff Scout squad not killed straight ...

How to smash pointy heads - tactica vs Eldar

Pointy heads, space elves, space fairies - Eldar. Obviously, as a stalwart believer in the Tau 'greater good', you know them, you hate them. I'd say that since at least the previous Eldar codex they have been within the top 3 40k forces in raw game-winning power, represented in the tournament metaga...

Re: Ghost/tide wing for University Nationals 2016

ya its horses for courses for me. A burstide/sms fire team is certainly optimal when running riptide wing lists. However, I like an iontide with fusion blaster for tougher units such as wraithknights, knights or the occasional land raider etc. I suppose there was those reasons that the ion/fusion bu...

Re: Ghost/tide wing for University Nationals 2016

Good stuff Skyfall. Seems you played very well.

I am slightly surprised that knights were a problem for you. Did you try ripple firing fusion blasters at their sides?

Regardless, happy you enjoyed your list. Good luck for summer cally, wish I could be there

Re: Ghost/tide wing for University Nationals 2016

This is a beautiful list Skyfall. What did the guys you were playtesting against use? And you're not wrong, its a very sledgehammer Tau build with much nastiness throughout it. Will blow most armies away, and is very resilient in itself I think you hit the nail on the head with weaknesses - Space Wo...

Re: 2k tournament Hunter Cadre

Hi I think there has been some advice of varying quality so far as regards what changes/benefits will help the OP in his tournament, no doubt all well intended and may work in some local metas but for tournament play there is more to consider. Your list - has a good core of strong stuff you've built...

Re: Help expanding my army

Hi Zombotic As AnonAmbientLight has said it would be useful to know what points levels you guys play, and what units your opponents tend to use. However - some tactics for starters: With your 4 crisis suits, make one a commander. I'd go for this: HQ Crisis Commander, double plasma rifles, drone cont...

Re: Direction of the Tau, past and future

The problem I have with this is that part of the original Tau fluff was that they don't kill each other, set up in the book Kill Team. This singular fact is what makes the Tau truly unique. Instead of power struggles and political maneaverings and assassins, the Tau look at murder as the single mos...

Re: Direction of the Tau, past and future

Great ideas on here from a lot of you guys, and particularly from Kakapo - probably the single best breakdown of the Tau's place in 40k universe I've read. On the ball as regards the story they tell, the progression of their ideology and I completely agree with the space opera theme you've coined - ...

Re: A question on Predators

Haha odd question here on ATT - the subsection, advanced marines tactica  Anyway in 5th ed I ran almost exclusively Salamanders. Due to their troops all carrying short range weapons (melta/flamers) I thought I may need some long range firepower to do some damage before the mainstay of my forces...

Re: Optimised Stealth Cadre Tactics

It is good manners and very sporty to take a moment to explain EXACTLY how the ghostkeel works as well as the formation. This unit is new and slightly confusing. You'll have a better experience with your opponent and game if you take the time to specifically explain how it works. Hey Not quite sure...
