Re: 1000 points, first list for 8th

Thanks a lot for the feedback Arka & Yojimbob. I appreciate the help in bringing me up to speed with T'au in 8th :) I like the look of the last list: HQ - Commander w/ 4x Fusion Blasters; 2x Shield Drones (176) Elites - 3x XV8s w/ 6x CIBs, 3x ATS; 6x Gun Drones (306) Elites - 3x Stealthsuits w/ ...

Re: 1000 points, first list for 8th

thanks for the feedback, I wasn't sure about drones so I appreciate the advice. I have rewritten the list to try and take your recommendations onboard: Vanguard detachment commander, 4x fusion blasters, 2x shield drones 3 stealth suits, drone controller , 6 marker drones 3 crisis suits, 6x CIB, 3 gu...

1000 points, first list for 8th

Hey guys Old Tau player from 7th, although I haven't played T'au for over a year. I have drawn up a list for 1000 points and would appreciate some feedback, I have done some reading up on what people regard as effective units and hope that my list looks decent. Vanguard detachment 996 points Command...

Re: Cadre Spectralblade Assembly

The list is a solid base to build an army from and if these are all the models you currently own, then filling up points with markerlights and target locks on fire warrior shas'ui's isn't a bad option. As you get more models, as others have mentioned the only upgrade I'd consider on fire warrior tea...

Re: 200 pt. Kill Team Beginner List.

My only concern with stealth suits is that they're 30 points for a T3 1W 3+ model. The burst cannons are good and obviously being jetpack infantry is useful, they're just not as cost effective as some other units. Pathfinders with rail rifles are ok, but 89 points for 4 path finders (3 with rail rif...

Re: 200 pt. Kill Team Beginner List.

I'd agree with Panzer that plasma is a good option, removing armour saves is very powerful in kill team and it really does depend on your meta. My only reservation about plasma is that unless you take 2 rifles (a 52 point suit is too expensive for kill team) you are still only getting 1 BS3 shot (ou...

Re: 200 pt. Kill Team Beginner List.

In my experience tau can suffer a bit in kill team, as our unit synergy with marker lights is somewhat lessened. I have had good results with crisis suits with a twin linked missile pod, mixed with some fire warriors, just make sure you have 3 decent units for your specialists, making a fire warrior...

Re: Deepstriking Assault Armies help needed...

If you check out frontline gaming, they have just had a recent discussion about how to beat the battle company. In the video/podcast they talk about countering a drop pod list, which I found really useful. https://www.frontlinegaming.org/2016/06/06/signals-from-the-frontline-438-how-to-defeat-battle...

Re: Deepstriking Assault Armies help needed...

In my experience, broadsides with HYMP and SMS are amazing at killing stuff in overwatch, position your units so that if you do get charged you always get 2-3 units using supporting fire. It might even be worth using counterfire defense system, I've had units of broadsides kill lots of models chargi...

Re: Engaging the Iron Hands Death Star

I feel like this is wrong to say; but I wouldn't want to even play against someone using that combination, it utterly takes the fun out of the game. Snap firing at T5 units, with a 3++ and rerollable saves. Lets say you fire 100 fire warriors at the unit, you boost them to BS5, which means you get 8...

Re: Riptide: Heavy Burst-Cannon, Nova-style!

I agree with you on most counts Derp and realise that I overlooked the fact that you can't nova charge the HBC and ripple fire. The only circumstance where I would take the HBC would be in a riptide wing, because you've got an 88% chance to get the overcharge. I believe the volume of fire (when over...

Re: Riptide: Heavy Burst-Cannon, Nova-style!

Hey My advice, based on trying the riptide wing a couple of times, would be to go all HBC, SMS, stims and EWO, the reroll on the nova makes it almost 90% guaranteed to pass. The extra shots, rending and the fact that it's S6 (wounding most stuff on 2+) outweighs the potential risk from gets hot! Fur...

Re: How to beat Carnifex and Deathleaper

I'd go for pulse rifle fire warriors over breachers, the extra range is worth it over the gain in AP.

I wouldn't bother with drones for pathfinders, just keep them cheap, put them in cover and maybe give them a shas'ui for the LD bonus.

Ah ok, in that case, fire warriors are your best choice, save your missile pods/plasma for the bigger stuff :)

Re: How to beat Carnifex and Deathleaper

Remember than anything S6+ will cause instant death to ripper swarms. Although any massed fire will do, it just means you have to chew through all 3 wounds if its less than S6

Welcome.

I've been on a few 40k forums and this is by far the friendliest with the most mature discussions.

Look forward to seeing your army :)

Re: How to beat Carnifex and Deathleaper

I would personally go for missile pods on all 3 of your crisis suits, you want as much range as you can against tyranids. Split your pathfinders into 2 units of 5. If you just have the get started! box and pathfinders, the only way you can field the list is if you run it as a CAD (or unbound). Use t...

Re: Commander skystorm's forces

I'll let you know how they get on in my next game, I've got a 1250 game against blood angels in a week or so.

I'm going to use a FSE CAD + Retaliation Cadre.
