Re: The run to 8th edition

Well if you show up with 5 supremacy suits and they are still broken strong for their points (assuming you can fit them in) then your opponent can just say "naw I'm good " and play someone else. Though it is entirely possible that it has been balanced well enough against other units that ...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Missile Pods look very promising as well with their d3 damage. That's a good point, and I did some calculations. A Leman Russ has T8 and 3+ save. We know Missile Pods have Ap-1 and D3 damage - we don't know their S value, but assuming it's within 5-7 they will wound on 5+. We also don't know how ma...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Too lazy to do the math but googling says that "2d6 take higher" is 4.47 in expectation, which is just below the expected value of 1+D6. So honestly, melta rule should probably be changed. That's correct. Though the advantage is not much in the average, but in the probability distribution...

Re: The run to 8th edition

GW just finished a Q&A about the new edition. This link has an unofficial summary: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/7590/724730.page#9370854 Confirms that Drop pods, and their content, must also deploy 9" away. Not looking good for our fusion. Although I guess to be fair, b...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Unless it's a typo, I think disintegrator cannons are the first weapon we see with a fixed damage value above 1? All the previous guns are either 1, D3 or D6 to my memory. Next Faction Focus is Imperial Knights which will be very interesting to see, given that they only have LOW choices right now wh...

Re: The run to 8th edition

It doesn't say how we have to deploy though Unicorns, what if now 9" distance is the only parameter and we can deploy in a line rather than base contact explanding in a circle. So if we have two or three fusion suits (you really want to kill that Land Raider!) and they can deploy in a line 9&q...

Panzer wrote:Also where's the hit to our Fusion Suits? 9" is our Melta range. :P

I think you misunderstood? We're forced to arrive at least 9" away, which means we will not be in melta range.

Re: The run to 8th edition

Reserves Some major changes. Deep strike and Outflank are no longer universal rules.. Units are not allowed to start in Reserve unless they have a special rule that allows it. In Matched Play , at least half your units must start on the battlefield, even if more than half have such a special rule. ...

Indomitus Crusade

Lore news, Imperium vs Chaos so not really Tau-relevant, at least not at first sight. Tomorrow is about reserves, should hopefully tell us about the new scatter-die-free deep strike.

Re: The run to 8th edition

Given that this is the case, it will definitely become viable to only have one Markerlight unit on the table, and just split their fire with the new shooting rules, to light up multiple targets. I never enjoyed being forced to have multiple Markerlight units on the board. It felt like I was being f...

Re: The run to 8th edition

In current edition when buffed to BS 5 83.33% of out crisis suit unit will hit its mark. So with two burst cannons for example that would be 6 hits. With only BS 3 that will only be 50% hit rate. So only 4 hits. Taking a third gun or twin-linking one of ours brings that up the old level of firepowe...

Re: The run to 8th edition

You guys expect us to be able to take 3 twinlinked weapons? Three times the amount of firepower as in 7th ed? How about absolutely not. Probably, we can't twinlink at all anymore, and that's why we now have 3 weapon slots. It's an upgrade from what we currently have, remember? And new-style twinlink...

Re: The run to 8th edition

I'm betting we're trading JSJ for 3 weapons and the ability to get out of melee without penalty. It's probably an okay trade. But both those new perks sound a little, I don't know, uncharacteristic? And just imagine all of the actual models that need to be refitted or given an extra magnet. If missi...

Re: The run to 8th edition

I'm so confused by this Drone Lookout Sir rule. Who wanted it or expected it? Who thought it was a reasonable addition to a Sniper unit? Give it to Shield drones, sure, but Sniper drones? Come to think of it, this probably means that we can't put drones in units anymore - instead they'll be free-flo...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Stormsurge has TEN weapons, but Anchors now give +1 to hit rather than a double shooting phase. Can spread all 10 weapons to different targets. Can escape combat and shoot at -1 BS. Crisis can take 3 weapons and use all of them. Can fall back from melee and still shoot with full effect. Missile pods...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Fluffwise it's probably a good way for the SMs to go forward. Tau can always build new suits, Tyranids can always breed new monsters, but the SMs cannot keep rediscovering ancient and oh-so-convenient technology. The SM codexes have been somewhat restricted by their inability to produce straight-out...

Re: The run to 8th edition

I mostly meant nothing new and unexpected in terms of how the datasheets look. But sure, not much new or unexpected with the rubric marines themselves either. Take a look at current Rubric marines and tell me there's something that surprises you. Biggest news is that this post - I agree win Panzer t...
