Re: Codex "no longer available". Signifiicant?

Ah yes, I see now that if you narrow the search down to "Tau Empire" and "Codexes" that the softback *is* available and it's only the hardcover that is out of print. Makes sense now. Thanks!

Codex "no longer available". Signifiicant?

A quick search reveals nothing about this, surprisingly. Should we be reading anything into the fact that the hardcopy of Codex Tau Empire is not just temporarily out of stock, but listed as the more drastic "no longer available" on the (Canadian) GW webstore?

Re: FAQs for every codex - finally!

I'm kind of disappointed that they haven't offered clear clarification on whether Tau characters can take multiple signature systems. The 40k main rules FAQ states: Q: How many relics/artefacts can a single model be equipped with? A: A model can only be given a single relic or artefact unless speci...

Re: [1850] First Cadre, looking for suggestions

One thing that Proiteus pointed out in his own army list (http://www.advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=25209) is that drone squadrons of four have to take a leadership test (Ld=7) after a single drone gets killed, so he likes to take squads of five. That makes a lot of sense to me. Bas...

Re: Retailation Cadres at 1500pts is it too risky?

Hopefully this pans out, but intuitively, it really feels like 20 jinking drones should be able to survive 1-2 turns of shooting. Maybe they can even allow the OSC to get started on some wet work early on, rather than just trying to stay alive. Can't wait to hear how it goes!

Re: Retailation Cadres at 1500pts is it too risky?

Fair point on Jink, and great to hear actual experience with it. Points permitting, what about starting the Drones AND the OSC on the table? Assuming your points break down roughly as follows, you could still have a viable Retaliation Cadre: - Drone-Net ~ 225 - OSC ~ 375 Leaves 900 points for the R...

Re: Retailation Cadres at 1500pts is it too risky?

At the rate I paint I'm years away from having a 1500 point army, but when I do a Retaliation Cadre will be at the core of it, so I've been thinking a lot about what will pair with it. Conclusion: a Drone Net formation. It gives you an instant Dawn Blade Contingent (as long as you pay the bonding kn...

I love using lists like this for my own learning, so I don't have a critique for you; just a question. How are the Broadsides armed? Thanks!

Re: Need Help Building a 200pt Tau Kill Team?

Hang on--maybe I misunderstood the original objection. What is split fire? I thought that meant targeting a different model than the rest of the unit (i.e., what Target Lock does in a normal squad), but do you mean targeting a different model with each *shot* (as granted by the Reaping Volley speci...

Re: Need Help Building a 200pt Tau Kill Team?

No, in the recent rules you need to pick the 'Split Fire' skill from the "Weapon Specialist" selection. Hmm. Well this sucks. I have the iBooks version, which I assumed would be kept current, and that rule states "... each model is treated as a separate unit." Not disputing that...

Not sure I follow. The Every Man for Himself rule in Kill Team takes care of this, no?

Re: Ke'lshan scheme question.

I'm not sure if this answers your question, but my understanding is that from a fluff perspective, the sept marking colour is the only part that matters. The rest of the colour scheme is situational. It might be a ceremonial colour for an event, or a camouflage colour for a particular deployment, or...

Re: 500 point tourney recap.

Looks like you faced some nasty lists at such a low points level. Would a relentless Broadside have helped? You almost had a Retaliation Cadre already, and it doesn't sound like Objective Secured helped much. A cheaper commander and probably losing a couple support systems could free up the points f...

Re: FSE codex update changes

A heads up for any iBooks users who excitedly notice a pending update to the FSE book: it still says "instead of" for the signature systems. I have not had time to explore what might have been changed, but I'm disappointed that this was not one of the changes.

Re: FSE codex update changes

Yes. Half of those commanders only have equipment from the Empire: Bravestorm, Sha'vastos, Arra'kon, and Torchstar. Those systems are basically the only things that actually make them special. They'd just be commanders otherwise. Bummer. I was hoping there was some sort of cryptic clue in there. Ch...
