Re: Are commanders undercosted?

It's not so much a matter as to how over-powered they are, as it is a matter of how underpewered all the other options are. If GW doesn't want commander spam, they should buff all other suits. Otherwise, it's the only option we have to stay competitive. As for the $$$, I had the eight before this *B...

Are commanders undercosted?

At least in terms of power level, commanders cost as much as 1 1/2 XV8s. XV8s hit on a 4+, and have 3 wounds each. The commander has 6 wounds and hits on a 2+. The commander also costs 1 more PL than a 10-man fire warrior team, which fires 20 shots at 4+, but they each have 1 wound, while the comman...

Re: Stormsurge stabilizing anchors and destroyer missiles

Pretty sure an FAQ discussed the difference between "Natural" dice results and "#+" modified results. I.e. models with a 7+ save only get a save when they have at least a +1 modifier available, and "on a roll of 1" means on a dice face value of 1, and weapons wouldn't ...

Stormsurge stabilizing anchors and destroyer missiles

The stabilizing anchors say that they "add 1 to hit rolls".
The destroyer missiles say "hits on a 6 regardless of BS or modifiers"

The anchors don't modify the BS of the model, so do they still add 1 to hit for the missiles?

Re: Manta strike on sparse boards

Hasn't been a problem for me, but my local meta is a lot of elite armies (Ad Mech, Marines, Necrons, etc.) What have you been playing against that this is a problem? It might also be a factor of your target selection and suit load out. If you're running plasma or CIBs you don't need to be 9" a...

Manta strike on sparse boards

I feel like deep strike (manta strike) in 8e is just plain awful.

I played my first 8e game last weekend, and I simply couldn't find a place to fit my reserve characters except for the board edges. Literally everywhere on the board was within 9" of an enemy model.

What do you guys think?

Re: Riptide overnerf?

If you support a Riptide with Drones (which you should) it is incredibly durable. Your opponent has to get up close enough to use anti-horde weaponry on the Drones before they have a chance of taking down the Riptide with the high-output weapons. However I broadly agree with your analysis, as do th...

Re: Riptide overnerf?

With the standard build, which is an ion accelerator (burst cannon is *BAD WORD DELETED!*) and 2 missile drones, the riptide costs a whopping 406 points. Please avoid postibg full statlines, and please avoid using coarse language, as these two actions are bkth a breach of the Member Guidelines and ...

Riptide overnerf?

I feel like the riptide was really overnerfed in this eddition. The strongest thing about it was the riptide wing. They removed formations and the riptide's ability to bundle into units. But did the nerf stop there? Not by a longshot. Even though the riptide by itself was fairly balanced in 7e, GW f...

Can't detachments only have 1-2 HQs?

Re: "Suppa cannon" flame thingy

You could use a shattered snow globe or use one of those gimbal machine plastic capsules for large canons or for shields I would imagine. Or get a clear plastic brick/bar and heat it with a blow drier and stretch it and form it as needed. Or use cotton balls as smoke. Good idea. This led me to find...

8e and the eight

What will happen to the eight in 8e now that there are no more formations? Has GW announced anything yet?
Do I have to throw my models out the window now that having 6 commanders is useless?

Re: "Suppa cannon" flame thingy

I was actually looking for something larger and more transparent. I literally want to have a "muzzle flash" that is 3x the size of the riptide.

The gundam thing actually took me in a good direction. I found a company that makes terrain for action figure posing called Bandai Tamashii Nations

"Suppa cannon" flame thingy

I want to make a display of my riptide doing a "firing suppa cannon" pose with laser ion flame thingies coming out of it.

Example:

Does anyone know where I can buy or how I can make the flames?
