Re: [WIP, DO NOT POST] Dark Hopes 8th edition guide to competitive battle strategy

Turn Priorities Each turn you're going to want to focus on several things during each phase. Each phase has a list of what you should be prioritising and how, listed in order from most to least important. Movement Phase I said it before and I'll say it again. POSITIONING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPEC...

Re: [WIP, DO NOT POST] Dark Hopes 8th edition guide to competitive battle strategy

Mont'ka The combat art of Mont'ka is not just a fluff thing. It's a very real, very effective way to win games. To maximize the effectiveness of your Mont'ka you need to focus on three factors, strength, reliability, and volume of fire. Most people are going to want to kill your biggest baddest mod...

Re: [WIP, DO NOT POST] Dark Hopes 8th edition guide to competitive battle strategy

Deployment A small but important part of the game. First turn is a massive advantage, and vastly improves the effectiveness of your Mont'ka. Having fewer total units is important to gain this advantage, so never split units if possible. If you don't get first turn, spending a CP to steal first turn...

Re: [WIP, DO NOT POST] Dark Hopes 8th edition guide to competitive battle strategy

OK folks, the first step at winning the game is here. Variety, Mont'ka power, and field control are the most important factors in building a successful list. Variety As discussed earlier, taking only units of one type can easily cost you a game if faced with an opponent that counters your models. Yo...

Dark Hopes 8th edition guide to competitive battle strategy

This is a personal comprehensive battle guide to 8th edition combat strategy. A little about myself first. I've been playing RPGs of all variety for 26 years, was in the US navy, and studied medieval battle tactics. I am a proud Gue'vesa who strongly believes in the ideals of the greater good, and w...

Re: Feel No Pain like abilities "stack".

They are separate abilities, so yes they stack. They aren't re-rolls, and they aren't saves, so they technically work on mortal wounds. Tau warlord can have stimulant injector, sense of stone, and warlord trait, in cover, with an invuln shield, giving them a potential 2+, 4++, 6+++, 6+++, 6+++ save XD

Re: XV8s - From Theory to Tabletop

Underscore units from what I've heard won't be allowed in official tournaments. As for mathhammering paper vs play, I'd have to say it's not looking at the bigger picture. There are many factors on the battlefield, and pumping out damage is only one of them. Remember your main goal in most tournamen...

Re: Flying units and melee combat

So back to the original topic, being in melee with an aircraft forces it to fallback to make its minimum movement, right? So basically if you charge it every turn it's worthless except for it's overwatch.

Re: Flying units and melee combat

Ok, so the second part doesn't work, but you're still forcing them to fall back which is cool. You could make a Coldstar Battlesuit basically invincible by chasing an aircraft around.

Flying units and melee combat

OK, so here's the thought. Your enemy has a flier, they have a 20" minimum movement range. You melee them in the front off to one side. Technically they have to move 20" in the movement phase. Does this mean they have to disengage and turn 90° away from you and be forced to potentially fly...

Re: Tau tanks VS Devistator Squads 1000p

And here I was thinking skyrays were worthless! :D RNGesus was most certainly on your side. Luckily my hammerhead turret is unglued! How did you find the razorshark in terms of performance? Skyrays are great to unload missiles and tie up others in melee. I use that strategy in all my games now. The...

2000p Tau vs Guard.

I used my list here: http://www.advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=26042 I fought a list with several FW models in it. He had a TON of ordinance in his list, and big enough variety for a battalion detachment which gave him 12 command points to my 5. He had lots of rank and file with 3 u...

Re: Tau Bastion

Every time I think something looks like crap, I stand up and look at it from 2-3 feet away, because that's how far you're seeing it if you're playing a game or looking at a diorama. If it looks good at that distance it's fine. No one gets up real close to every single piece when judging dioramas, ai...
