Re: Tau Art

How far back do you want to go? That's a good question. I'm certainly no artist, so was thinking something very stylized. Later, more realistic sculpture would be WAY beyond my skills. Early then, along the lines of (from Japanese history) the 1000 - 500 BCE clay Dogū statues or ~2000 BCE Olmec hea...

Re: 750 point list - tactics and modifications

Okay! I used Arka's list tonight and was matched up against a Grey Knight opponent. It only managed to lose due to some terrible decisions I made in the game. At the end of turn five, I had slay the warlord and first blood. My opponent had slay the warlord, linebreaker, and one objective (nabbed on...

Think about the amount of money you spend for each point. Fire Warriors cost 50 USD and are 80 points (97 with Drones and Markerlight). XV8s cost 75 USD and are 267-323 points! So XV8s are cheaper per point.

Re: Tau Art

I'm farming for ideas as to how ancient Tau cultures (pre-Ethereal) viewed themselves, from a visual-arts point of view so I can get the ruin bits feeling right. Falling back on ancient Earth cultures for inspiration, I can see various Tau cultures (Earth, Fire, etc.) being similar to Aztec, Olmec,...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

It's not healthy for our bread and butter to be bulk units AND expensive $ units. We're discussing game balance though. Some of our discussions on ATT have been sent on to GW and maybe they had 1% chance of changing the future Codex. On price though we have no control. And besides, battlesuits are ...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Our Burst Cannons are almost exactly like Heavy Bolters: they are just a revolving Pulse Rifle. They are not a minigun. A Heavy Bolter is a Bolter that fires more devastating ammunition in a "constant burst" style due to being belt fed. Our Burst Cannons are very similar in that they simp...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

What is up with everyone asking for point drops? Are you really happy with the rules for our weapons? Would you be OK with paying $75 for a 45 point unit? I mean, since what we're doing here is just wishlisting and won't effect the actual points costs of the models, there isn't exactly much at stak...

Re: How many Fire Warriors is too many?

Few is good, and tons are good, but anything in between doesn't really work. Taking 15 for the three Markerlights and +3CP works great. Taking a massive blob of 30-40 (or more) buffed Fire Warriors can confront the enemy with a massive infantry threat. I would stick with standard Fire Warriors with ...

Re: Help needed - 2000 point tournament

Thank you for the quick reply! I can see the value in dropping hammerheads for commanders, though the amount of attention people paid to the hammerheads was surprising. Admittedly, it was the one time the stars aligned, but the hammerhead wing absolutely carved up a storm talon list in a single tur...

Re: First Tournament - 2v2

First game went well, against Space Wolves and Ultramarines. This would be the only game against anyone that didn't have their codex. The Ultramarines brought a bunch of Intercessors and Hellblasters plus a Xipher interceptor, while the Wolves brought a couple of Wolf Guard squads, a unit of Fenris...

Does anyone have any other feedback for me on this potential article? Would love to get a bit more before I push to get it put up! R'Kai Content-wise I'd say you're good to go. You could consider trying to further condense the content though if you want the article to be more accessible. Anyway, no...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

I like the 4-5 point range. One other issue with the Burst Cannon is that a pair of Pulse Carbines is strictly superior in terms of cost-efficiency, so Burst Cannons really do need a different role or a much lower points cost. Two Bolters are a Storm Bolter, +2 points. Two Pulse Carbines are a Burst...

I agree, but it appears the XV8s are glued together, since the loadouts are specified in the original post.

Re: Pathfinders' alternative weapons

What he stated is cheating but you can get a recon drone, grav drone, pulse accelerator drone and then 2 more from the tactical drones category for a total of 5. I don't think he's cheating :D but yeah, that would be the correct loadout. For a Rail Rifle squad, I think I'd just run 2x Shield Drones...

Very quick and dirty model for a colour test, no lenses or weathering done yet, and I'm undecided on a colour for the little tau 'gyroscope' screwhead patterns on the guns ... Feedback would be much appreciated, obviously the sept is meant to be sa'cea. I'm aware my sept markings are scruffy and th...

Re: Arka0415's 8th Edition Army List

Do you really have that much of an issue with the DC bubble that you need 3 of them for 4 squads? I generally operate them as a giant cloud of drones, which scares the holy piss out of people, and can get 6 or 7 squads covered with relative ease. This list isn't trying for a drone bubble, there are...

Re: Pathfinders' alternative weapons

Man this has gone off topic a bit, i don't have a devilfish so all this is a moot point for me. Unless ive missed something, the recon drone's deny cover only affects nearby pathfinders, so my understanding would be the fish doesnt get the bonus Here's the summary: 1. Pathfinders near a Recon Drone...
