Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

That convo gives me a sinking feeling about our codex. It seems like they don't care about us if they are talking that dismissively, and without some core stat line changes I don't think we can be competitive. My poor Tau might be sitting on the shelf until 9th :( I really hope it was just a case o...

Re: Riptide support systems (new player)

All 3 of them are unkillable machines of death. The force multiplier abilities are peanuts compared to what they can do by themselves. I just mean that a ~900-point list with the two Chaos Primarchs would probably be stronger point-for-point than a ~1200 point list with all three. Mortarion and Mag...

Re: Riptide support systems (new player)

Sometimes I want to make an army of guilliman, magnus and mortarion, just to make space marine players taste their own medicine. Not sure if that's feasible though. I mean, from a tactical standpoint it would probably be worse than just taking Magnus and Morarion in a CSM army, but that's not to sa...

Re: An Appeal for Jump-Shoot-Jump

Having JSJ as a stratagem is useless. The whole point of JSJ was moving often with all your units to kite your enemies. I would never pay 1 CP for moving out of turn with a single unit. Let's assume that a 1 CP stratagem becomes the reality though. You could use a build with one mid-range XV8 unit ...

What Makes a Winning List?

This is a discussion I've been meaning to start for a while now. What makes a winning list? To beat your opponent in Warhammer 40k, there are two very, very broad ways to go about it. First, you can bring a list that has an effective counter to every conceivable threat on the battlefield. usually th...

Re: Anyone Going to LVO or Adepticon

One day I'd love to, but right now I think I'm a couple thousand miles too far away :D

Do ATT users tend to meet up or anything at these major tournaments?

Re: 8th Edition 1250pt Highlander Suggestions

Arka, I like it, but I would have to take a Breacher squad before I could double up on FW. Same points though, so kind of a moot point. So, you can take a second of something once you've taken one of each Troops choice? I like the idea of the GK as it would be a great distraction and the -2 to hit ...

Oh, okay! So the "escalation" part is just that the points values for games increase over time?

Re: Follow-Up: Homing Beacons and Fusion Commanders

I think as a community our list building advice has become a bit monotone. I have to agree, although that's why it is good to point out that our advices are with a competitive mindset, which I think we tend to do. Also, many times the advice requesters put some limitations like: "I don't like ...

Re: Riptide support systems (new player)

Ok tyranid allies that was for sure funny. A Little fluf question. Are there tau septs that work as mercenaries? Tau use a lot of mercenaries (mainly Kroot), but Tau themselves act as mercenaries only very, very rarely. I assume really only in situations where they could increase their influence ov...

It was an odd time. One of the best Tau lists had Tyranid allies! The competitive scene was completely messed up. Tau may have been nerfed but 8th Edition is a breath of fresh air.

I was trying to keep my contributions short and to the point- since it seems like you really want me to reply line-by-line I will do so, however, from here on out I'm going to be brief. It's important to include all voices in the discussion, not just yours and mine. To preface, we cannot have a conv...

Re: Follow-Up: Homing Beacons and Fusion Commanders

You could even do hybrid Stealthsuits that perform all of those roles. Stick some Stealthsuits with a Drone Controller in front of your army with wings of Gun Drones to either side. Stealthsuits and drones help with screening, Stealthsuits buff the drones, and if the enemy comes charging forward wit...

In previous editions Tau could ally pretty effectively with Eldar. So, that's where the jetbikes could come from.

Re: The Y'Vahra - A tactica

Awesome thread. Can you clarify please if the Nova overcharge both weapons or a single one? I was playing that it overcharge only one. Thank you. It actually overcharges both. It had been even asked directly to ForgeWorld, althoug I don't remember in which post was said. If you analyze carefully th...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

True it wasn't good, but those rules like "whichever has the longest beard" were mostly not game breaking and identified as non-playable for matched play setup soon enough. GW literally put out statements suggesting things like getting more models if you feel outnumbered. The community ha...

Re: Follow-Up: Homing Beacons and Fusion Commanders

If the Homing Beacon trick isn't ultimately that viable, are people still using Stealthsuits? Objective holders, or cheap Drone Controller caddies, or for some other role? Maybe it isn't that black and white to be honest, even if the HB trick with QFC isn't that viable the sealthsuits have other pu...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Wait, T'au were "given" their technology? I assume it's referring to individual Tau soldiers being given their weapons, and is just badly worded. Stop saying "well its ok if your friend heavily nerfs his own list to match you." It's scary that this was actual game design for Age...
