Re: Flamers and overwatch- not actually that useful?

It just seems a weirdly broken rule. Like why would a troop not fire if the enemy is entering range of the weapon? I'd say surely every weapon without a minimum fire distance that takes it beyond range should be able to fire at the guys literally just running towards you I'm happy for the whole over...

Flamers and overwatch- not actually that useful?

So, at my local GW shop, I took my cir/flamer ghost keel and was fighting nurgle's demons. They charge my GK from 10 inches, successfully. I'm told by the store manager that I can't flame them as they're out of range. But... They're literally running into hand to hand combat, to 0 inches, how can th...

Re: Interesting Combo - Riptides and Ethereals

I hate to say it, but it seems to me that you'd be better off just hoping the Stormsurge gets changed to be a battlesuit in our codex or that the Riptide gets buffed or taking the Y'vahra (sp?) as the cool new Riptide version. With how popular I imagine it to be I wouldnt' be surprised if Y'vahra (...

I paint them with lead belcher, wash with nuln oil, then paint details with iron breaker and whatever brass or gold I have to hand to break up the monotony

Re: House stratagem costing advice

Thanks, I'll suggest running it as three squads join for 1cp, with 2cp to do it a second time

House stratagem costing advice

Hi, Until our codex comes out I'd like to run a house rule with my friends regarding a custom stratagem. I've got the idea flashed out, but having never played a codex army I'm a bit stuck on CP cost/ other balancing. So this is based on a stratagem I saw when glancing at an IG codex that allows mul...

Re: Options against Heavy Infantry

If you do not declare Kauyon when launching your seeker missiles then you are probably doing it wrong. I agree that the Piranha have the edge over the whole game but they need the Kauyon even more than the Skyray. My point was (and is) that highly elite armies are where Seeker missiles begin to loo...

[review] green stuff world chameleon paint: set one

One word: buy. They're versatile and easy to use with a brush or air brush. I used the copper on y'varha's plasma flamer barrels and have a gorgeous heat burn effect now. I used the cobalt over black on the jet engine outlets and it's done a lovely blued steel effect, and the same over silver base c...

Re: Supplier review: Triple helix wargames

Aye, I eventually got my delivery after going via Facebook (their phones and emails aren't answered). They'd marked my order as complete before dispatch, so it never happened. I used to buy regularly from them, accepting the roughly two week delay as the price of getting them cheaply (same with thei...

Re: Tau in Close Combat & Traditional Tau Martial Arts

I've said this once and I'll say it again: GW should give pistols to ALL models in ALL infantry squads. It would give us a reason to stay in CC, even though we aren't hitting them with swords. Marines have it, so why can't we? It would even be something similar to the equilibrium video posted by Kr...

Re: Possibly a dumb idea. 25 power tanky madness

So I ran this and it went really well, taking out a venerable Dreadnought in two turns with no damage sustained to y'varha, losing only my kroot hounds. But then since kind of marines jumped in. 12 of them, each dual wielding plasma pistols. Two turns later and y'varha is cooked. Simply too much dak...

[non tau] citadel paint combination for horses?

Hey, I'm painting up some saga units alongside my 40k units and am struggling to figure out a decent citadel combination to paint horses white with. Anyone got any ideas that would work well on organic shapes?

Re: Pathfinders' alternative weapons

I'm not sure that the recon drone cannot fire you know. Sure it's embarked, but the rule specifically refers to it as a turret mounting. So I'd count it as an extra weapon for the devilfish, same way attached gun drones work. After all, the gun is outside the fish (I'd say confirmed by the fact that...

Re: Possibly a dumb idea. 25 power tanky madness

As long as you can kill the enemy's main anti-tank threat on turn one you'll probably win. However if they have any kind of kiting ability, you'll be in trouble. I'm actually curious to see how this would work. If they go for kiting I'll use y'varha's forgotten ability: Nova charged move. It'll get...

Re: Possibly a dumb idea. 25 power tanky madness

I'm far from an expert, but the largest problem I see is the fact you can only shoot at 2 units a turn. Yeah, they'll probably cease to exist that turn if they're small enough, but hordes will be a challenge. Especially if they split up and you have to chase them around the table. Even on a small t...

Possibly a dumb idea. 25 power tanky madness

So my LGS is running a 25 power game on Friday. So I'm planning on ranking my way through this. Can you please advise if this is a bad idea or not? Battleforged army Outrider detachment. [Hq] ethereal. Planning to use sense of stone to soak Nova charge wounds, and add morale to the drones. 2pl [Fast...

Re: Possible backfield setup

I like the idea of this! Playing commanders but fluffing them as broadsides. It makes a slightly different play to the commander spam that's normally seen. In that list you presented with not a lot of anti infantry firepower, perhaps replace some pathfinders with a fire support Hammerhead with SMS a...
