Re: namegiver's Shi'ar Sept Project Log

I sat down to put in some work on my son's AdMech dakkabots. While they were drying, I got distracted by some terrain that needed painting. Hobby ADD is definitely a thing.

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

I'll probably only get the CE if it has those nice metal objective marker coins The version of the Custodes codex that has the metal Objective Tokens is US$200. Apparently there's typically a Collectors Edition of a codex that's ~US$80 for the base book plus an art book or somesuch, then occasional...

Re: Squads are back

The new GW clearly has a sense of humor. Over-interpreting things could easily lead to disappointment. Well the thing is that if they don't release them soon, they will be losing customers, after the subpar plastic release and better-be-a-joke bundle, the community around sisters is pretty "up...

https://i.imgur.com/6xlLtrb.png There she is, now with tufts. She actually won the last game I played for me. It was right down to the wire, score was tied at the bottom of turn 7. My opponent (World Eaters) was almost tabled, had a single Aspiring Champion left hiding out in the far corner of the ...

Either way, I'll take enthusiastic speculation over the doom and gloom that's been so pervasive lately!

Re: Tau Art

Oh wow, the haniwa figurines are fantastic. I love the eye and mouth openings on the very old ones. It's easy to imagine a Tau version with an exaggerated nasal slit in place of the nose ridge. The kofun would also come across well on the tabletop. I did a bit of looking around at southeast Asian ar...

Re: Tau Art

How far back do you want to go? That's a good question. I'm certainly no artist, so was thinking something very stylized. Later, more realistic sculpture would be WAY beyond my skills. Early then, along the lines of (from Japanese history) the 1000 - 500 BCE clay Dogū statues or ~2000 BCE Olmec hea...

Re: Tau Art

Thanks for the link, it didn't even occur to me to search for what I thought was a totally obscure question. ATT is wide AND deep. My project is to build a terrain table (6'x4') to go along with my Shi'ar sept cadre. My basing scheme is desert/badlands, so to go along with that I thought a Tau archa...

Tau Art

Does anyone have any examples, visual or in stories, of Tau art? That is, art *by* Tau, not our art depicting Tau. I've an idea for a project and would like some canonical source material to reference before I get overly creative

Aun Tier wrote:Did you do the drone base the same way as the Coldstar? It looks like an interesting (the good kind!) texture on the flatter parts.

Similar. The drone is sand and ballast, with more ballast. The extra ballast gives the interesting texture. Paint colors are different on the drone, too.

Re: Painting models to look like holograms

Another possibility might be to paint the model normally (or perhaps entirely in shades of grey, or green?), but sleeve it up from the base in a clear acrylic tube which has been fancied up either with paint, digital-style etching or a combination of both. Acrylic tubes come in some cool fluorescent...
