Re: My first 2000 Pt. army

Edit: Oh sorry, I think I jumped the gun. Sorry for the miss-post, I was actually going to suggest start-collecting boxes so that sorta worked out. This is basically a list running everything you have (except for Darkstrider) with 2 XV-8 commanders to fill the gap. You can squeeze a few more drones ...

Re: Please link 8th edition video battle reports here

Guerilla Miniatures Games (T'au vs Imp Knights) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEqirD-CeS8 I remember watching another video by the same two guys with the same tau list while searching for anyone playing a remotely competitive list. The tau player won the game, but it was painful to watch. I didn'...

Outrider detachment. [Hq] ethereal. Planning to use sense of stone to soak Nova charge wounds, and add morale to the drones. 2pl [Fast attack] Y'varha with ATS and TL. Does what y'varha does, on a small games workshop table 20pl [Fast attack] 4*shield drones. Soak up damage with FnP. 2pl [Fast atta...

Re: markerlight commander

Taking multiple support systems on a commander is really hard to rationalize. I think you can make a case for MP+DC, but the target lock feels like a waste on anything but a cold star. MP commander is also hurt by the exclusion of ATS. Using marker drones is already less efficient then taking pathfi...

Re: Pathfinders' alternative weapons

Whats the benfit to running 2 pathfinder squads? im guessing can avoid getting swarmed in a single charge, more mobile and can see more of the field, but would offer up another potential victory point. I'd like to bring up a point about pathfinder marker light in general. I think they're best used ...

Re: Stealing objectives: Breachers, Pathfinders or something else?

If you want all-in-one units that can take objectives, then you'll need to look elsewhere. Coldstars, Piranhas, Kroot, and Vespid are the units you'd need to look at in those cases. This. It's not that mechanized infantry are bad objective grabbers, just that there are so many other ways to get on ...

Re: My first 2000 Pt. army

So first, lets just remove a bunch of the battle scribe formatting to make it easier to read. A couple of your point values were off, which we can fix in a bit (QFC, longstrike, and kroot): HQ: Crisis commander - Quad Fusion Blaster, 2 Shield Drones (176pts) Crisis commander - 3x CIB, ATS, 2x Shield...

Re: New to Tau, need help building army

Hey Jedi, You have a pretty good chunk of units to build a competitive/semi-competitive list with. These are all 'high-tier': Commander Coldstar Commander Cadre Fireblade 2 groups of Strike Team Fire Warriors 2 groups of pathfinders 6 crisis suits 3 stealth battlesuits Multiple types of drones (magn...

How about this for the last 641 points? -XV-8 (3x) - 8x CIB, 1x DC, 6x Gun Drones (323) -5 Vespids 75 -5 Vespids 75 Crisis suits to accompany the commanders and generally provide interdiction, and vespids for additional firepower/ screening / mobility A unit of markerlights to balance things out -5...

Re: What Makes a Winning List?

These are terms that are usually applied to the context card gaming, but I think they have a lot of applicability in the context of tabletop games for setting basic criteria for what defines a ‘good’ build. Most play styles fall under some combination of three primary archetypes: agro, control, and ...

Re: Possible backfield setup

So here's what I've been thinking about. This sort of list is so utterly different from regular meta Tau lists, that I think it needs to get built in parts. The whole idea is to use a Shield Drone-supported R'varna, so this would be the core chunk: HQ - Commander w/ 3x Missile Pods, ATS (156) Fast ...

Re: Transporting bigger suits

I have all of my bases magnetized and weighted which makes them really convenient to store. With the magnet bases I canmount them on 12 and 6 inch steel rulers and the rulers to a sheet of tin glued to a thin piece of plywood. I actually totally love this setup as it works great for keeping track of...

Re: Possible backfield setup

If you're running a R'varna list a few things will need to change I think. First the R'varna only gets two Support System slots and isn't allowed a Multi-Tracker, so its cost is basically 442 fixed. Also, you'll definitely need Shield Drones, T8/Sv5++ won't hold up too long against Lascannon fire e...

Re: Ranged Superiority: How much would you be willing to pay?

One of the defining features of the Tau Empire, and one of the things most conspicuously missing in the new Index, is highly-effective long-range firepower. In previous editions alpha strikes from 36" and beyond (using Railguns, Missile Pods, Seeker Missiles, etc.) were a major part of Tau str...

Re: Possible backfield setup

Honestly it sounds like a good plan. You have a solid backfield but then again this is still pretty aggressive, with two Fusion Commanders and a unit of CIB XV8s. However, it feels like this list would be pretty powerless against an infantry-heavy list, and has a lot of units that don't add a ton t...

Re: Revisiting Mechanized Gun Drones

Hey, I was just curious if anyone had any comparative numbers for any of the the other devilfish setups namely: Railfish, and Breacherfish. I suspect neither of them are any good, but I'd like to consider all of the setups before writing off the devilfish completely.
