Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Relics cost command points! 1CP per relics. Oooo! I like this design space, and it explains the extracts we've seen now that we know they are 'drop in' replacements for existing kit. Is it known whether they are "bought" at the list building stage or deployment? Being a CP cost and not a ...

Re: 8th Ed FORGEWORLD Tau

I've been thinking about Remora drones and their assault-blocking capabilities (vs units without Fly ) a lot lately. It's a cute 'pocket combo' for the Coldstar but even inexpensive as they are the price is a little too high to set up a shell game with multiple units swapping places to maintain a st...

Re: Seeker Missiles

As others have pointed out, on Longstrike and Longstrike-adjacent Hammerheads seeker missiles are a great tool, presuming you have the resources to land 2 markerlights on the target unit. For smaller games I'm giving Remora Stealth Drones with seekers a go. Alongside a Coldstar with drone controller...

Re: Markerlight sources and their accuracy

Why would HGD not enjoy the 3 ML benefit? They don't enjoy their own markerlight hit, but they're a too expensive ML platform anyway! Their Automated Targeting Protocols rule enables them to fire a markerlight alongside other weapons, but if any markerlights are fired by the unit then no models may...

Re: Markerlight sources and their accuracy

- With Drone Controller nearby and have moved: a. Marker Drones b. Shas'o R'alai Blacklight Marker Drones (FW) c. Heavy Gun Drone Squadron (FW) Super tiny quibbles: Marker Drones ignore the penalty for moving and shooting a heavy weapon. Heavy Gun Drones, on the other hand, cannot even benefit for ...

Re: Saviour Protocols and Models with Lost Wounds: Allocation Issue?

Why not both? Or rather, in casual/narrative games I can imagine using, say, 6 Tactical Drones and 4 Heavy Gun Drones to shepherd a key unit. Single damage wounds can be shared amongst the big 'uns and heavier fire can be diverted into the smaller frisbees. It's a way to extract a little more value ...

Re: Longstrike Tank Ace

Ye, these names for crisis configurations were very common in 4th edition... <SNIP> Funny thing is these names were invented by the community and in 5th ed rulebook GW decided to mention the most common configuration, Fireknife(plasma+missile pod+multitracker) and they got it wrong and said it was ...

Re: Saviour Protocols and Models with Lost Wounds: Allocation Issue?

Also, if you have a drones unit with a wounded multiwound drone, you don't have to allocate to the wounded drone when using saviour protocol. Oooh. I hadn't spotted that interaction. From the core Index we only have Recon drones to trigger this, and if we do then any damage aimed at the Pathfinder ...

Re: Welcome to the T'au Empire, no longer Tau

Ehm.... It's... a... Greek... letter.... And also an ancient Greek letter ;) Tor-rhymes-with-core and Tau-rhymes-with-cow are valid ways of pronouncing the imported ancient Greek symbol τ/T in the English language. In modern Greek it's more like 'taf'. I had a jovial quantum mechanics lecturer who ...

It also means I get commuppence for gently teasing my friends playing Apollo ad Astra Militarum and Craeftworlde Aelderi, among others. The front runner is T'au E'mpi're, but T'Pau is close behind :D

Re: The run to 8th edition

You can still bring mainly tanks but then you have to cut back on the big suits like Riptide and Broadside obviously. Going all elite model count army isn't going to work anymore. Even so, are you not tempted to try out an all-HQ army at least once? Looks like a lark to me... Despite the lack of pe...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Limiting units for certain septs seem pretty stupid, it would limit sales, but I could imagine special rules, stratgems, maybe some special wargear and a character or two for each sept. Even if they went this far - and I don't think it's likely in such a heavy handed fashion - you'd be free to make...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Markerlight Drones are 13 points though. 10 points for the Markerlight Drone + 3 points for the Markerlight. Shield Drones would be 11 points and Gun Drones 8. ;) Oddly, this isn't the case. The table of drone costs explicitly states that the points per model includes wargear. I presume this is to ...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Guys the way you are colored does not influence what sept you call yourself on rules. Or rather: "Yes, my cadre are painted up as Sa'cea sept but come from a contingent under Shas'o Mumblecough - a noted student of Ksi'm'yen's Code of Smoke". It helps that the Tau septs aren't well known....

Re: The run to 8th edition

One silver lining I haven't seen mentioned yet: Fireblades (HQ), Firesight Marksman/Shaper (Elite), Sniper Drones (Heavy Support) and Kroot Hounds (Fast Attack) give T'au a relatively inexpensive unit for every slot. In principle, that should help us fill out force organisation charts and pick up Co...

Re: [WIP] Unclear Picture, Intention To Reverse Team

Righto! After a jolly little break I've finally found time to photograph the completed team. Or rather, the team so far, as I now need another few models in the same style to fill out to 10+3 :D First, the canny Por'vre directing the session arranged for some 'action' shots. http://i.imgur.com/UQLGW...

Re: The run to 8th edition

By this reasoning, it was never a sphere. Sphere isn't literal, in this case. It's symbolic or metaphorical. Like how "Sphere of influence," isn't a literal geometrical sphere within which people are influenced. Conversely, Kroot Warspheres are literally spherical. Two things jump out at ...

Re: The run to 8th edition

Save some Reinforcement Points for Blue Horrors and Brimstone Horrors as well... Having a generic name for the pool of points that summoned units draw from hints that it might be used for other things too. Here it looks like the budget can also be used to pay for horrors splitting, but it's plausib...
