Re: Uplinked Markerlights and traditionally "overcosted" units

Sorry - I wasn't clear that you were objecting to that part. Yeah, actually using the once-per-phase ability to boost a markerlight on the Tetra seems like a... low priority choice? But I'd rather have it work for the times I have no better use for it than not ;)

Re: Uplinked Markerlights and traditionally "overcosted" units

And minimum I'd want 1 to RR the 1 to hit to reduce the chance to waste the shot which again puts you at 5-7 with the stratagem. Ah, but here's the tricky bit. A strict reading of the rules appears to say that when using Uplinked Markerlights with a High Intensity Markerlight you replace the tokens...

Re: Uplinked Markerlights and traditionally "overcosted" units

This is a really interesting angle to take on this puzzle - I like it! Or rather, I can see myself more comfortably bringing in unit's I've felt silly for fielding previously. One wrinkle with this analysis is that due to the once-per-phase-per-stratagem limitation in Matched Play you can only rely ...

Re: Rizzle's Incident Resolution Cadre

A quick update is in order! Thanks to rolling migraines and toddler-related distractions I've not been able to set aside as much time for the hobby as I'd like. I suspect this log might be punctuated by peaks and troughs as I work around external pressures  The Remora have received several thi...

Re: The Greater Evil

Hey, guys, do you remember this mysterious tau from Fire Caste? I do remember that vignette, but I certainly hadn't noticed the connection. That's a great spot, and it gives us a few hints about events in the region - the threat of Phaedra and Tyranid meeting was on my mind after reading the story ...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

But doing clowns and dark eldar when they got a big presence in CA, while necron and tau that got a minimal presence are later would he very strange. The counter argument would be that those factions were able to have a set of changes in Chapter Approved because they are closer to ready. That's the...

Re: nix0n's "The Unknown" Cadre [WIP log]

I wasn't entirely sold on the scheme on the work in progress models, but I really like how the whole thing ties together on a finished model. Great work!

Re: Rizzle's Incident Resolution Cadre

A quick note on photography, and the freekrooter's hat The other thing I'm enjoying playing with in this log is photographing models. This week I tried a white backdrop and forced a wider aperture and while both had advantages I didn't control for brightness as well as I would like. I think I'll co...

Week Two: There's Remora Work To Do Time for a check in! Here's my progress this week: https://i.imgur.com/QUDiZ6k.jpg https://i.imgur.com/k9WPg5g.jpg Not too shabby, though I think I underestimated how much surface there was to tidy up on these blighters. Two observations at this stage... ⋅&n...

Re: The Greater Evil

Well this is exciting! Purely from the overlay of the cogwork teeth and with the Tau sept iconography, I wonder if we'll be picking up on some of the threads left exposed by Magos Caul's actions in the Vanguard short. This snippet from the Warhammer Community blog suggests it will slot in with some ...

Re: Rizzle's Incident Resolution Cadre

Thanks for the lovely comments, folks. Makes the road ahead that much easier to think about; the real test, of course, will be seeing how well I can sustain the momentum. Happy to say the drones are almost ready for a debrief photo. nix0n - The 'vespid' jump backs are XV25 Stealthsuit torsos trimmed...

Re: New Tigershark Fighter-Bomber up for pre-order

Ooooo! I'm so torn over this release. I wants a plane of my own! But my backlog is so vast and my playtime so small that I think I'll continue to defer for now. It's petty, but I think I might feel differently if the pre-order freebie included some of the Air Caste Pilot sculpts. I'd love another co...

Re: Rizzle's Incident Resolution Cadre

WEEK ONE: SEND IN THE DRONES As a warm up I am aiming to finish some partially completed drones. As it happens, the very first 40k models I ever painted were drones: https://i.imgur.com/kHuUKq3.jpg https://i.imgur.com/6Mtqrqo.jpg Long before my cadre had heroes, or even a name, Kor'vessa Co'lin had...

Rizzle's Incident Resolution Cadre

To my immense shame I have only played one (1) game of Warhammer 40,000 with a fully painted force at 1,000pts or above. That's in 16 years - the entire history of the Tau miniatures line. That's clearly not acceptable. So here's my plan. In mid April 2018 I'll be joining a buddy for a store-held es...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Relics cost command points! 1CP per relics. Oooo! I like this design space, and it explains the extracts we've seen now that we know they are 'drop in' replacements for existing kit. Is it known whether they are "bought" at the list building stage or deployment? Being a CP cost and not a ...

Re: 8th Ed FORGEWORLD Tau

I've been thinking about Remora drones and their assault-blocking capabilities (vs units without Fly ) a lot lately. It's a cute 'pocket combo' for the Coldstar but even inexpensive as they are the price is a little too high to set up a shell game with multiple units swapping places to maintain a st...

Re: Seeker Missiles

As others have pointed out, on Longstrike and Longstrike-adjacent Hammerheads seeker missiles are a great tool, presuming you have the resources to land 2 markerlights on the target unit. For smaller games I'm giving Remora Stealth Drones with seekers a go. Alongside a Coldstar with drone controller...

Re: Markerlight sources and their accuracy

Why would HGD not enjoy the 3 ML benefit? They don't enjoy their own markerlight hit, but they're a too expensive ML platform anyway! Their Automated Targeting Protocols rule enables them to fire a markerlight alongside other weapons, but if any markerlights are fired by the unit then no models may...
