Re: 3D print extra parts: Stormsurge, Riptide, Piranha, ...

Just got the updated cover plate from Shapeways. Can confirm that this version fits perfectly. Finally we have an answer to rain!

Re: Conversion and Piece identification help

That Burst Cannon looks like it came from one of the Forge World crisis suits.

Re: 3D print extra parts: Stormsurge, Riptide, Piranha, ...

I received the cover plate from Shapeways and I can confirm that it does not fit in the opening. The side-to-side measurement looks perfect and the circles are well-aligned with the cutouts, but as you noted the piece is slightly too long front-to-back. I would suggest pulling that one down from Sha...

Re: Tau Allies - How would you fluff 'em?

Allies can be a lot of fun when you don't take them for game reasons. They can really add a lot to the narrative of a game. They give you a chance to paint different kinds of things and still use them without building an entire army. A radical Inquisitor or Techpriest and an associated warband accom...

Re: [3D] 3D printable parts

I have a Stormsurge inbound (thanks to few donations and a big personal saving) alongside FUD A1 arms and hands (Stormsurge and Riptide versions). I will refine after the models: fitting, assembly, wall thinning. Then I will work on the main weapon arm attachment, missile arms, the rear missile sup...

Re: [3D] 3D printable parts

I would gladly pitch in part of the cost if it means we finally get a functional cover plate.

Going to hold off on hands and arms until we have a good alternative way to mount the missiles, but it sounds like that is something else you would need the sprues for.

Re: Tau Lifespan Conspiracy

The only problem with the lifespan being an accidental result of eugenics is that it appears to have occurred separately in all four of the other castes. We know that they were biologically distinct before the Ethereals appeared.

Re: Tau Lifespan Conspiracy

There has always been another issue with Ethereal "conspiracies". Ethereals are essentially like Inquisitors. They have models and rules in the game, which effectively makes them something of a "player character". You as the collector of an army have every right to decide for you...

Re: Tau Lifespan Conspiracy

It is possible, although the reason might be more benign than that. The Tau evolved extremely rapidly after the arrival of the Ethereals. Assuming that the Ethereals were responsible for this, shorter generations would have been extremely helpful. Despite popular perception, mutation only occurs bet...

Wow, That is unreal. It manages to look alien and yet immediately familiar at the same time.

Re: XV8 Commander pistol-style weapons

They are from the Forge World XV81, XV84, or XV89. As I recall the hand/forearm part is the same in all three kits. He did a lot of cutting, although it looks so clean that it is hard to tell.

Re: Sinistral Shoulder Guards on Crisis Suits. Why?

Ok. To start, you have to separate the actual real-world reason for the shoulder pads. Which is purely stylistic. The design of Fire Warriors is based on a type of Japanese infantry who used long firearms with portable shields. This was to set them apart visually from more conventional modern infant...

Re: Tau Battle Music Discussion

To be honest, although I know some people dislike the Tau=Japan comparisons, I do tend to associate traditional Japanese music with them. Anything with heavy taiko drumming and shakuhachi.

Re: Fluff Reasons for Low Tau Stats

I think the BS is more a reflection of how they are trained vs. other factions. The Imperial units with BS4 are largely trained as individual shooters. But Tau military doctrine may very incorporate Markerlights at a very early level. The Tau way of waging war relies on combining the efforts of diff...

Re: Tau Combos?

Actually, not the case. Even when using TLs normally, the unit is firing at one target. I would have agreed with you two editions of the Codex back. But the current version doesn't really support the complicated primary target and secondary target arguments that we used to have. It just says that t...

Re: Tau Combos?

I still think Target Locks are a grey area. But otherwise I think it is pretty clear that all of the units firing are going to count as a single unit for the purposes of special rules that apply to a single unit. Otherwise there really isn't any point in doing this. They give Markerlights as an exam...

Re: Tau Combos?

It says, "resolving their shots as if they were a single unit". That implies that you can just treat them as a single unit when looking at other special rules such as Target Locks that modify the shooting of a single unit. But it also says, "These units must shoot the same target"...

Re: Tau Combos?

It doesn't say all models in all units have to shoot the same target. I would say that the Target Locks still work. To be honest, I am not sure how much of a buff that is. It isn't like there aren't a lot of other ways to get those special rules in the Tau army. I think this rule is probably a respo...
