Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

So I had to double check but I remembered hearing that the Tau got their FTL capabilities by analyzing a wrecked alien ship. FTL travel is super important for an interstellar empire so he may be referring to this. This could be another gift from whatever race gave us the Ethereals and caused those w...

Re: XV8 Crisis Magnetising

flush is flush, cant go too wrong with that, but trying to make a M-F conenction, need to get the right depths on all of them So one thing I do to make getting the magnets flush easier is I drill a smaller pilot hole (1/16" dia) then I drill my full magnet hole (1/8" dia). I make sure the...

Re: Follow-Up: Homing Beacons and Fusion Commanders

For me the value of the homing beacon is that it allows you to generate guaranteed assaults and lock enemies in combat. So I use the combo a lot but more for the added protection then anything else. But I take two squads of 5 which I am guaranteed to keep around and so that I can deploy them close t...

Re: Draaens Tau Cadre WIP

So I ran out of black primer so that 4th squad of fire warriors has been on hold and I've been assembling/magnetizing/cleaning up the rest of my models for priming. 15 metal pathfinders, 6 gun drones, 2 hammerheads, 12 firewarriros, metal ethereal, converted high yield burst cannons and some misc eq...

Re: XV8 Crisis Magnetising

I magnetize my suits in 4 places. Once on the outside of each arm and then on the slots in top of the thrusters. They are sort of the traditional crisis suit mounting locations for weapons. I have found that with just one magnet the weapon can rotate around the magnet. So I use two magnets. One is a...

Re: An Appeal for Jump-Shoot-Jump

One tactic that was lost due to JSJ and cover changes was that I would put a crisis suit squad clumped up behind a devilfish. The devilfish would move forward and then the crisis suits would jump out shoot and then hop behind the devilfish getting cover saves. It was something I could plan for and d...

Re: Stealth Suit Durability Analysis

I have been running 2 squads of 5 with drones. Sometimes I gave them ATS and other times without. It makes me think my better set up would be to go 3 squads of 3 with drones if I wanted to run that many. I could spread them out to give me more options for the beacon or deploy them closely for more a...

Stealth Suit Durability Analysis

So I've been running my stealth suits for a while and I have been shocked at how much incoming fire these guys have been able to survive while in cover. Initially I was concerned about my stealth suits living through my opponents first turn so I can use the homing beacon. I decided to run the number...

Re: Tau Win Percentage Log

All right here goes. I'll post 1V1 games and then team games down below as I think team games you can get dragged down or lifted up by your partner so it is not as indicative of the Tau army. These are all my games as Tau. I played white scars almost exclusively though so I did start out with a good...

Re: Kroot painting?

If you want it quick and easy for green/browns you can base coat the model green fill in the brown parts and put on a wash over the whole model and you are pretty well done with the body and have something that looks nice. You can add in some dry brushing the original green/brown for a bit of natura...

Re: 2k Tau vs Imperial Guard

Part of the issue for my game was that my opponent had only played against Tau once before. My old stealth suits are similar to my fire warriors, my commander suits are just the old suits with some conversion work and the drones have no distinguishing marks for how they are grouped. So there was a l...

Re: Fighting chaos

Also, going second will be important too. If Mortarion deep strikes out of position, you need to make sure there aren't huge targets he can take out. Let Mortarion drop in, erase some Fire Warriors, then erase him in turn with counter-deep striking XV8s. Why not go first take some pot shots with wh...

2k Tau vs Imperial Guard

So I had a really good game this Sunday against a tough IG list. I've been developing my hyper aggressive 2k list to be able to disrupt the opponent and be able to have a great beta strike if I go second. My List: 1 Battalion, 1 Fast attack detachment 1 Elite Detachment - 8 CP HQs 3 X Cold Star Comm...

Re: Draaens Tau Cadre WIP

I like the color-scheme. The first squad's color seems a bit more glossy and uneven - I kind of like this even more, since it looks a somewhat organic. I put a candy coat gloss varnish on all the models in the army. The second squad had yet to have the final varnish I just got too excited to wait l...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Did the thousand sons or custodes get point adjustments in chapter approved? I think the fact that Tau and Necrons didn't get index point adjustments in chapter approved is probably why a lot of people were optimistic if there were multiple armies we would be on the list. I'm a jaded veteran with G...

Re: Draaens Tau Cadre WIP

And Blue squad and my second fireblade are finished. 36/48 firewarriors painted up! I'll have to strip and prep my 4th squad so I'll probably jump on another project to account for all the soak times where I can't be painting. I also have to finish the bases on these guys and the last squad too but ...

Re: Expanding from start collecting

Hello and welcome. you have a pretty good start. Right now drones and commanders are the most competitive choices. When we get our codex it's anybody's guess what will be the best. In light of that I would recommend a commander and another unit of troops (not kroot) so you can get up to a battalion....
