Re: Fluff Problems: A growing issue

Ultimately all this is a consequence of the perennial complaint that "GW don't advance the story". 40K is (or was!) a setting, not a story. Now they're advancing the story, and it's invalidating the fluff people imagined for themselves, contradicting established characters and incidents, d...

Re: News - new version of the Barracuda

This thing is also one of the most magnetisable kits I've seen Forge World do. To magnetise everything you'll need four 8x2mm (for the main guns), 37 6x2mm (seekers, landing feet, associated covers, missile pods, turrets), six 4x1mm (decoy drone), and possibly twelve 3x1mm (for the turret weapons. ...

Re: News - new version of the Barracuda

I'm curious to see if that rail weapon will be a Heavy Rail Rifle or a Rail Gun. Honestly, I could see it going either way from a balance perspective. A HRR wouldn't be terrible, considering the benefits of AP 1 and the helpful addition of the CIBs, but obviously a full Rail Gun would be more ideal...

Re: News - new version of the Barracuda

...and some kind of rear turret, by the looks of things? That would be completely new. Not to mention the built-in Seeker Missiles and keeping the TLMP. No more ejection pod, though (wait - hang on - was that just the Tiger Shark?). And I really, really don't like those fins. canting the fins outwar...

News - new version of the Barracuda

https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/blog/blog.jsp?_requestid=634305 More weapon options, hefty redesign (don't like the fins personally - hey ho) but it's a new version of the best, coolest flyer we ever had! https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/resources//fw_site/fw_blogs/2016/05/13/DFHG5467658756Y6H5B4/pi...

Re: 40k FAQ First Draft

Relics and artifacts are just what they call the unique items in a codex which are sig systems in our case. Orks don't have relics (by name) either but you would still call them that from what I've seen posted here. As for the "items" plural being the key piece I have pointed out that oth...

Re: Can we still field Breachers post-FAQ?

I don't really see the problem. If you want to make sure of survival, jink but be less effective. If you'd rather take the chance to get effective shooting after disembarking, don't jink. It's a choice - the whole point of what the jink rule was meant to be in the first place. So of course we can st...

Re: Just how dark are the Tau?

Yes and in this case "their own benefit" is what they consider the greatest good. "Greatest good for me" =/= "greater good". Ask a Dark Eldar if he fights for the greater good. He won't say yes. He fights for himself, out of purely selfish desire, and would be quite op...

Re: Just how dark are the Tau?

Every single race in this universe is fighting for what they see as the greater good. I don't think that's true at all. The Imperium is fighting for the Emperor and for humanity - nothing greater. The Eldar are fighting for the Eldar. They may use (in the most literal sense possible) other species ...

Re: Just how dark are the Tau?

While I don't entirely align with its portrayal of the Tau, Fire Caste is both a wonderfully written story in its own right (Peter Fehervari is a subtle author of genius IMO), and a nice example of what happens in the absence of the Ethereals: all the other castes start trying to do things in their ...

Re: Just how dark are the Tau?

Even though ethereals controls and guide the rest of the tau, not all of them are evil. I can see how being in power without balance corrupts some of them, just like humanity. This is exactly why "dark" Tau are silly. Tau are not just humans with blue skin , and how dull they would be if ...

Apparently, earth caste gives a lectures about arrangement of battlesuit to fire warriors, but it is strictly forbidden to actually understand this lectures. Even if it can save you live. If you are from the Air Caste and can understand other languages and speak politely, you will be censured. If y...

Re: Hypothetical Tau Jetbike Tactical Role

I haven't written up (let alone playtested) any rules for jetbike dragoons, but I don't see any need for the rules to be complex. The classic but long-departed Warhammer English Civil War (WECW) for example, simply said that at the start of each turn, dragoons can declare they are either mounted (us...

Re: Hypothetical Tau Jetbike Tactical Role

I can understand the lure of jetbikes, but I have a hard time seeing Tau use them. The skimmers function as well as they do largely in part to their targeting arrays. Poor depth perception and focusing reflexes would make it very hard to focus on rapidly changing environment without significant har...
