Re: Modeling Tau Females - a discussion

Personally I enjoy the fact that T'au troops can be either gender without it really needing any adaptions to the models, its also great that GW have started including female heads in the Fire Warrior kits, as well as the ghostkeel pilot. Basing the T'au fluff of not keeping families together in a w...

Re: *Feedback Request*

If this is a first painted model, it's a very good start. Nice skin effect, a with little too saturated green but maybe because I am prefer shades of grey. Leather coat seems too flat. A darker wash and some higlights could be done here. Beak color is also too saturated and highlights are strange (m...

Re: SLA printed drones & CIB

Nice, but i don't see the point of printing drones (maybe because I am a veteran collector who has 20-ish old gun drones on their small sprues) The CIB is nice, but it maybe miss the "cyclic" without a rotary part. As it stands it is more like a triple barrel shotgun than a minigun. The mo...

Re: 3D print extra parts: Stormsurge, Riptide, Piranha, ...

Piranha cover is a staple demand from people (the Forgeworld TX42 is nice but still too much unarmored in my taste). The luggage case (that I've done from a conversion shown on our board) didn't needed a piranha model to be made. I plan to do one in the future, once I will have a 3D model of the pir...

Re: Tau 'Caution' colors

If they use "danger" stripes it must be two contrasted colors (dark and bright). So probably black could be retained (or other dark colors).

To help visualize the "danger stripe" idea, you could keep one of the two colors. Black, with maybe light green or blue.

Re: Crisis of faith. Red blood?

Color does have few relations with the metal atom in there: Green Chlorophyl has a magnesium inside and magnesium salts and compound are usually colorless for example.

Re: [wip] Tau Commander

"Iron man" colors can shine on tabletop as long as there is enough contrast between colors. Washes can blend the contrast: I painted my custodes with silvery copper color before applying a red-brown ink wash to have a good gold with few paint steps. So you need to paint base color with the...

Re: Crisis of faith. Red blood?

2) T'au are colorblind and that's why we have questionably meager Ballistic Skill. Farsight sees red, "we" see red, but in reality, FSE have a blue color scheme The optical option to validate both hypothesis could be one, but AFAIK, they are difficult to setup without a complete color bli...

Re: The Tau Sorcerer

Sorry, but I don't even see one thing that a tau could want to do with a 'spell' that is: A) not currently available or doable through tau tech (cast lightming , fireball, levitate, heal illness, go invisible, ...) B) fit the tau way of thinking (mind control, planet extinction, mass murder, ...) Ta...

Do you know that GW had done a conversion guide for O'Kais ? http://www.advancedtautactica.com/resource/shaso_kais_guide.jpg We saved it here from the old GW website (back when it was more than an online store): http://advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?t=13519 At first I was wondering if you talk...

Re: [WIP]Guide: How to make lookable FDM 3D printed Orca

Nice to see another 3d model done in real. For the orca, I had another way, probably much cheaper and with as much work than 3d print. I looking to build it from laser cut wood and then assembled. Sanding may be important too, but the nose and other smooth parts could be the only one to be 3d printe...

Re: How to paint panel lines?

I usually used inks when doing military models before getting into w40k. And I kept the technique. I tried: 1- oil paint (humbrol) thinned with white spirit 2- GW/Vallejo paint thinned with water 3- GW/Vallejo thinner with Future floor shine coat 4- pen ink thinned with future floor shine coat 5- 0....

Re: 3D print extra parts: Stormsurge, Riptide, Piranha, ...

Uploaded the new parts on Shapeways. They are smoother, 0.8 mm thick (instead of 0.5mm previously), and their orientation is set to be the best compromise possible for price vs print result. They cost more (around $5 for the base option, but full option with cover and missile support has its price e...

Re: 3D print extra parts: Stormsurge, Riptide, Piranha, ...

@Crolynx Thanks. Tried to fit the Hhead railgun on the Surge, and its length is on the same order than the Surge main cannons, even if it does not look so good on it (seems too frail compared to other slightly bigger guns) If the gunrig railgun have the same scale than HHead or even 110 or 120% bigg...

Re: 3D print extra parts: Stormsurge, Riptide, Piranha, ...

Yeah, Gundam arms are cheaper, but they don't usually fit the look of our battlesuit. Updated pic: arms are done (an upload test on shapeways gaves me the same cost that standard arms). I am now trying to see if they can be posed well with a Stormsurge. I tried here also an alternative placement for...

Re: 3D print extra parts: Stormsurge, Riptide, Piranha, ...

Been a while since I've updated the thread due to IRL job. First some news: New Shapeways pricing: As some of you has noticed, Shapeways new pricing are hurting multiparts complex models badly (my models went 50% costier). The good news is that wall thickness is not that critical now to reduce price...
