Re: Deepstrike-madness strategy

I can see this kind of strategy benefiting greatly from Aegis Defence Line with Coms Relay. It significantly helps with reserve rolls. That is something I didn't bring up earlier, but since you won't come across it all that frequently I wouldn't count on it as an asset to the strategy. Of course, i...

Re: Validity of Fire Prisms vs Hammerheads

Has anyone considered the difference between the two models? A hammerhead kit allows you to build an Ionhead, Railhead, Skyray, and even a Devilfish. If you put it together right, you can interchange any of these variants for different games. The Fire Prism just gives you one Fire Prism, which is a ...

Deepstrike-madness strategy

Just got done with a battle, only 1,250 points (Tau vs. Greenskins) and so I decided to try out a list that I've been thinking about (and some fun strategies I've read on this site since the new codex; this is sort of a variant on Ninja Tau, as I understand it). Basically, the list is centered aroun...

Re: Broadside, long live the king of intercept?

I think the use of Broadsides as an interceptor unit is a fairly sound tactic. The only issue lies in offsetting their attacks on light armor and heavy infantry: Broadsides are extremely efficient in these two areas. You might have to field a few Sunforge crisis teams to make up for the Broadside fi...

Re: Is the Devilfish viable and how do you use your troops?

Jochmann is right, I went back and read the rule and it boils down to a turn-based thing. You can't load/unload in any part of the turn if you tank shocked and vice versa. However, if you unload in this turn and tank shock in the next turn that is fine. So the tactic of flying your 'Fish over to an ...

Re: Is the Devilfish viable and how do you use your troops?

You can't tank shock after unloading/loading and, at least equally important, you neither can unload after tank shocking. Do you mean in the same turn as unloading/loading? I don't recall anything in the rulebook about dropping off some Firewarriors on one objective then scurrying over to another t...

Re: Farsights Bodyguard - What to take?

I like to make my bomb markerlight independent so that they can function in the farthest corner of the map. So i would add a ccnode and sensor suite plus vrt bodyguard to the squad. I have reservations with having shield gens as opposed to shield drones since drones are way cheaper than a gen and i...

Re: Is the Devilfish viable and how do you use your troops?

I think the 'Fish is very valuable. As has been said, it give you a way to send some Firewarriors across the board well protected and gives them a some decent fire support afterwards -- more so now that Carbines are assault 2. SMS also gives nice coverage. Plus, if your far-flung Firewarriors are ou...

Re: Thoughts on the Riptide

Yelman, I must say I disagree with you here. Although we are generally bad in combat we are not categorically hopeless. It is important to realize that there will be cases where sending a Tau unit into combat, especially a Riptide, is by far the best option. Remember that the Riptide is a 'vre, and...

Re: Thoughts on the Riptide

The way I see it, the Riptide is more of a situational counter-assaulter than anything else. If, say, 4 assault marines get through with a veteran carrying some sort of nasty-stuff they will rip through suits and fire warriors with impunity. A single Riptide, unless it has 1-2W, will stop them dead...

Re: Pathfinder Team Configurations & Applications

I honestly havn't looked into putting Darkstrider into a team. No reason why, just havn't done it. I also tend to play pretty heavy in the battlesutis department, so the Homing Beacon is a great bonus with the Pathfinders. As I said in my first post, getting a team of Pathfinders into enemy territor...

Re: Hard Testing - Key Learning Points

This was an extremely helpful and well written post. Looking around, since I'm still new here, I saw the Academy Articles page is totally empty. The board here said that "[Article Submission]" needed for it to be included in the title. I don't know if there's a way to retro-actively put th...

Re: Thoughts on the Riptide

So I'll want to keep it away from my friend's Space Wolves Wolfe Guard. I could see it being useful in tying up Devastators and low model-count units without AP2 weapons. Is using it as an assault buffer a wise tactic though? I think its massive firepower makes it better to avoid getting stuck in cl...

Re: Thoughts on the Riptide

Has anyone gotten a Riptide into assaults? Not on purpose, of course... Its BS is pretty average Tau, but with its beefed up toughness and strength, plus armor and inv saves and monstrous creature awesomeness I figured it wouldn't suck. I haven't gotten the chance to play mine yet, and I hope to kee...

Pathfinder Team Configurations & Applications

I didn’t field Pathfinders in my 5th edition armies. They were too expensive for what I got, which was a small team that was unable to move (due to heavy weapons) and unable to fight effectively (due to pulse carbines’ lower range and single shot) and managed to die far too easily. Even the ability ...
