Re: The evolution of a 3rd ed Tau army to 7th!

It's very interesting to see someone talk about Daemonkin as their tournament force, and Space Wolves as their casual, haha. But then again, KDK can do pretty well if it's optimized and played right, and Space Wolves don't do all that well by themselves, even if they're one of the best Allies in the...

Re: The evolution of a 3rd ed Tau army to 7th!

It’s awesome to see people coming back to the game, especially from that long ago. Personally, I think you’re at an advantage to those of us that never quit through all the intervening editions; most of my friends that picked up 40k armies for the first time with 7th edition do well, not miring them...

Re: Tau verses Chaos Daemons (Tactics)

How did this game go? I can say as a Chaos player that your opponent's list really doesn't come across the table with much resilience or reliability, lacking a lot of the key units and upgrades that would make it shine against an average gunline or mobile tau force. Specifically, I think Daemons nee...

Re: When should one feel no pain-general analysis.

This is an excellent idea, that is well thought out and explained in-depth. I fully agree with the posts above that this is the kind of gem I wish I saw more of (though ATT is generally richer than most sites in these cases) and, although a fairly minor point, is well worth expanding on. I had a tin...

Re: 7th edition and Tau

My first game yesterday was to test my reservations on the daemonology tree, and to see how i liked all of my units being able to score (and to see how crippling one eye open would be). I played Chaos Marines allied with Necrons and threw in some Come-The-Apocalypse allies with marines+an imperial k...

Re: Starting over from scratch

I got in what will probably turn out being my final 6th edition game today, and met a new friend in the Colorado area that's just getting back into the hobby. It made me start to think about painting again, and I figured I'd ask a question: What kind of motivation do you find yourself needing to pai...

Re: 750p tau army vs chaos

To follow from Mij'aan's post, I think we don't really have enough information to go off, especially since you're looking to use the entirety of your collection and thus any sweeping/dramatic changes are unlikely to be realistic. That said, I could probably lend some insight. As I've stated numerous...

Re: Starting over from scratch

I love the hair. Somehow I was envisioning the blue as much darker, and I like it a lot the way it is.

By the way, those silly putty kroot are some of the creepiest things I've ever seen.

Re: Starting over from scratch

I think the airbrush pattern, if it turns out, will be a great contrast to the orange skin and white shirts. It'll be nice to see them with guns on and get a bit of the overall flow of the squad's positioning and scheme next to each other, and then see how that contrasts (or blends) with the Fire Wa...

Re: Starting over from scratch

Do you have a workable list of models that you have to build, or that you're planning on having? I've built a fair few of armies over the years, and I've found that the best way to mask my terrible painting skills is to have a theme in mind for modeling before I start on any of the "spotlight&q...

Re: Starting over from scratch

I love the orange accents, and the blue accent marks on the orange plate. It really melds the whole model together well, and makes it look finished. Let us know when you start painting vehicles :)

Re: Starting over from scratch

I love the color scheme. I'm no master painter, but if your highlighted models are the ones with helmets that fade to dark going back, I very much approve. I like that you chose orange for a contrast color, but I almost wish there was a little more of it to make the model flash. I couldn't paint a f...

Re: Surviving the Basilisk

I don't know if you're still looking for advice, and not to necro the thread, but most of the artillery I referenced in my previous post was removed from the Astra 'dex. However, Leman Russ Eradicators went further down in price, so I think any non-power-armoured army needs to combat that threat fir...

Re: Target:Imotekh the Stormlord, Phaeron of the Sautekh Dynasty

I like the list, and I think it's got most of the core essentials. I'd be very interested in any deployment options you're considering, and whether you would think about reserves, etc. Even just a run down of how you think a game might go would be helpful to imagine how the list might work for you. ...

Re: Necrons - How to stop the grey menace?

I don't know how much help I can be, as I don't play Tau and I only field Necrons as an allied force to my Chaos armies. However, I'd like to ask a few questions and offer a different strain of advice: First and most importantly, how adamant are you to field "pure" Tau? Would you be open t...

Re: Surviving the Basilisk

I'm not sure how this advice will stack up when Astra Militarum comes out, but for now I think (as stated above) that ignoring the Basilisk is a considerable option in larger games. Combined with keeping your objective units in area terrain, a basilisk is relatively inefficient for its points (espec...

Re: Imotekh the Stormlord, Phaeron of the Sautekh Dynasty

My experience against Necrons is from a Chaos/Guard perspective, but I have a few thoughts too. I definitely agree that his mobility seems to be his weakness. I would recommend taking a quadgun as well, and putting it somewhere very far off on a flank AWAY from whatever objectives are in your deploy...
