Re: Hovering things: Questions about Forgeworld's Hammerheads and the Empire's Valkyrie

For the hammerheads, no. The FW variants only changed our main gun (and the rules for those are all in the FW Xenos Index).

As for the Valkyrie, you may be referring to the Vendetta, which was a Valkyrie body with lots of lascannons (I believe it is 3 twin las cannons).

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

I don’t think there is anything too wrong with rail weapons as is in terms of rules. I mean Rail Guns, HRR, and Rail Rifles map reasonably well to Lascannons and Plasma Rifles in terms of filling similar roles. We generally have better range better strength, better AP, and the chance of mortal woun...

Re: Rules about drone controller.

The Index wording is slightly vague as it says “within 6” of a model”. This has been errata'd though to say “within 6” of any models” making it clearer that it doesn’t stack. As others have said though, the Fireblade works fine with gun drones (including those attached to vehicles)

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Yep, Space Marine units seem to be no part of the Blood Angels codex. It was said Kroot won't play a big role in our codex. I always thought auxiliaries are a part of T'au. I suspect long term it will end up being similar to Death Guard or Thousand Sons. They include some Daemons units, but to get ...

Re: Sub-Assemblies Priming/Painting etc

Cut a piece of card from the box your models came in (usually one of the bigger faces) and put some masking tape across it, sticky side up. Then put your models on, spray one side, leave it 5-10 minutes to dry and then repeat the process again to prime the other side.

Re: Building/painting models faster

It all depends what you're trying to achieve. If you want a really high standard with lots of blends, details, edge highlighting, etc. it's going to take a lot of time. I'm currently painting up 5 Thousand Sons Scarab Occult Terminators. I've probably put 30-40 hours in so far for building and paint...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

The thing is Tau have been BS 4+ forever but it's only seemingly an issue in 8th. We've relied on Markerlights forever, but it's only seemingly an issue in 8th. Markerlights have been Heavy forever, but it's only seemingly an issue in 8th. So what has changed in 8th? How Makerlights give us our buf...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Ok pathfinders might not be great but we also have fireblade, fs marksman, firewarriors Shas'ui, stealth suits Shas'vre, xv84 commanders, our stratagem, and Pathfinders are really cheap for what they do and in this edition MSU is great for filling up detachment for more CP so I don't see what the i...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

I'd have to heavily disagree. Markerlights are as core to Tau as an army as fire warriors and crisis suits. Visually we may be defined by our suits, but gameplay wise we have ALWAYS been defined by our markerlights. They are the one thing we have that no other army has: A way to buff our units army...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

Requiring Markerlight support is bad design. What if I want to play an all suit army? I still need to take Pathfinders? There is no other army in the game that has such an inane dependence on a single unit (yes, Marker Drones exist but the argument stays the same). Tau are a shooting army. They do ...

Re: News - new version of the Barracuda

Pilky (or anyone else with one of the new kits), can you suggest a starting point for converting the Swiftstrike Railgun? I have the original 'cuda kit and want to retrofit it with the Swiftstrike. I've got a couple of the old metal Broadside Railguns lying around, as well as a Hammerhead Railgun I...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

The views towards Crisis Suits does seem rather overblown. As I say to many at my local gaming club, if you took the commander and the riptide out of our codex as the extremes, the rest is fairly well internally balanced, certainly the best I can remember for a Tau “codex”. All that really needs to...

Re: Returning Tau player with some hobby questions!

Strip the paint first. There's a chance you may have used plastic glue onto paint, so stripping first will losen that. If you used plastic glue correctly then a hobby knife is your only option
