Re: Are commanders undercosted?

A lot of people talk about point changes in terms of nerfing or buffing, but I think a more interesting change to improve a lot of our army would be to make it easier to get +1 to hit with markerlights. Tau have always been overcosted for an army that hits on a 4+ but markerlights have always mitiga...

Re: Savior Protocols and multiple mortal wound attacks

One minor thing in respect to the steps, remember that between Step 2 and 3 you get to make your save (if you have one). The FAQd rule says "successfully wounds", so it has to get through your save first Nope, "successfully wounds" means rolling "to wound" successfully...

Re: Savior Protocols and multiple mortal wound attacks

I believe the steps for savior protocol go as follows: 1. Roll to hit 2. Roll to wound 3. Allocate the wound to a nearby drone 4. The wound is turned into a single mortal wound regardless of its original damage 5. The drone takes a mortal wound 6. Shield drones may make a 5+ FNP so if there was a w...

Re: Tanks - what a disappointment

Yeah, 3 Gun Rigs with 1 markerlight will average about 1.53 successful wound rolls a turn. 2 Hammerheads + Longstrike average 1.81 successful wound rolls a turn. So you've more chance of wounding with the hammerheads. Plus you're averaging slightly more mortal wound chances (0.38 hits will result in...

Re: Tanks - what a disappointment

Personally I've found them just as good as in 7th, if not better due to their survivability. Got a tournament coming up in a few weeks and I've got Longstrike and a Hammerhead, both with Railgun, seeker missile, and gun drones. Every game they've done pretty well, mostly failing because of my talent...

Re: Magnetizing

For most suit weapons I use 3mm x 1mm neodymium magnets (N40 or higher). They should be enough to get you started magnetising most things :)

Re: A use for sniper drones?

Probably the best setup we can hope for at the moment, especially with the 3+ to hit. I'm hoping our codex fixes them as they were always the first thing in my list in 7th. As you say though, doesn't really fix them enough for any sort of competitive use

Re: Asking for advice on purchases

I think my FLGS has an optimized pathfinder box, so probably I should get that. How many are the recommended breachers for a fish? 10 for them to go with an ethereal and fireblade? I usually run 10 Breachers with a guardian drone and shield drone. The guardian drone is a must as it ups the breacher...

Re: I'm afraid of painting Tau tanks.

The biggest problem is getting the consistency just right to get a good flow but no runs (which are a massive pain on our tanks). I find you should be aiming for at least 3 coats, maybe even 5 or more depending on your colour, if you want a smooth finish. Try to be as smooth and thin as possible, th...

Re: Is it worth magnetizing everything?

I magnetise all my crisis suits, riptides, stormsurge, ghostkeels for swapping weapons. I also magnetise anything that uses a flying base (so vehicles and drones) as they're far easier to deal with than the GW pins. This is mostly for 2 reasons: 1. It makes it easier to use the models (both painting...

Re: Asking for advice on purchases

You're definitely on the right line of thinking with getting Pathfinders. Building some with Ion or Rail Rifles is also worthwhile in 8th edition to give yourself some more high strength shooting scattered about. Beyond that I have 2 suggestions for unit combos I like, but they depend on what models...

Re: Mont'ka and charging

Depends how you read it. If you read it as "can both advance and shoot" as if they hadn't moved this turn then yes. If you read it as can both advance and "shoot as if they hadn't moved this turn" then no. My gut would say RAI is the latter because Tau, but there is an argument R...

Re: Know your Support Systems.

The term "barely worth it" basically implies that while you need to take it, it's a whopping 40 points to mount it. It's only worth taking on a Stormsurge because you're already sinking many points into it and it has the firepower to make it worth keeping alive. It's only thanks to these ...

Yeah, they'll be back soon. For example the UK site has all those available but Shadowsun, Farsight, and the Razor/Sunshark are unavailable

Re: Confused by magnets!

I use 3mm x 1mm as my standard. One in the weapon, one on the suit. Seems to hold just fine for me (think they're only N40). They will spin if you touch the weapon but otherwise they hold fine. I would also say: always use magnet on magnet connection wherever possible, they will be much stronger tha...

Re: Confused by magnets!

1. Yes. All standard weapons have the same polarity on all my suits (from crisis up to Stormsurge). This just makes life so much easier in the long run as you know any weapon works with any model 2. In theory you can stick any weapon on the left arm, right arm, or on top of either jet pack. I usuall...

Character rule is in the BRB. SMS is in the index. Index/Codex rules always override BRB rules therefore you can shoot a hidden character if it is closest
