Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

It just feels like whoever made the rules didn't even bother with tau honestly. We didn't get our guns updated beyond the pure mandatory minimum, keeping profiles identical or making the most lazy ports ever without thinking about the effects it might have. the fact our wargear overlaps so much wit...

They do. Sadly it's one of the more expensive ways to get drones https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Tau-Drones-2015

The rumours ages ago were for some vespid jet bikes. This was a few years ago mind, but was mixed up in the same rumour that predicted the tidewall, ghostkeel, and stormsurge

Re: Chapter Approved Leaks Discussion

Perhaps we are coming at this from different perspectives. I can see two. First, I like my army to win now and then. I don't get fun from being curbstomped. It makes me feel bad for the work I put into painting them and the time I put into making them look great. I want to have a chance. We don't h...

Re: Chapter Approved Leaks Discussion

It doesn’t invalidate anything. You still had the enjoyment of building it and painting it. It's just now it's only really any use in apocalypse games (which is where something of that power really should be) Except that it really does. The model wasn't overpowered for its points, now it has double...

Re: Chapter Approved Leaks Discussion

I don’t own a Ta’unar, but (presuming this is true) in what world is this acceptable for the consumer? They’re invalidating a $300+ investment for everyone who purchased one. I would be so ticked if I spent the money and hours on end assembling and painting it for this to happen. It’s the functiona...

Re: Chapter Approved Leaks Discussion

Somewhat disappointed at the lack of points changes (even most of the FW ones are from an FAQ months ago), though given we're not the only one to be shafted in that way, and the extent of changes elsewhere, I'm inclined to believe the theory that Tau and Necros may be next after Daemons and Angels. ...

Re: Upcoming T'au Codex

The stratagem is a big deal. Changing one markerlight hit into an average of 3 and potentially 4? That means my durable markerlights in firewarriors with a supporting fireblade could realistically get to 5 markerlight hits late game. That's a big deal to me since right now I don't ever even try to ...

Re: new battleforce sets

Well, buying those separate would cost you £152 so even if you threw the ghostkeel in the bin you'd be saving £7. Of course you have the choice of keeping it (doesn't really do much except die quickly in my games, but it's a nice model if you haven’t got one) or selling it off (you could get £30+ fo...

Re: Are commanders undercosted?

A lot of people talk about point changes in terms of nerfing or buffing, but I think a more interesting change to improve a lot of our army would be to make it easier to get +1 to hit with markerlights. Tau have always been overcosted for an army that hits on a 4+ but markerlights have always mitiga...

Re: Savior Protocols and multiple mortal wound attacks

One minor thing in respect to the steps, remember that between Step 2 and 3 you get to make your save (if you have one). The FAQd rule says "successfully wounds", so it has to get through your save first Nope, "successfully wounds" means rolling "to wound" successfully...

Re: Savior Protocols and multiple mortal wound attacks

I believe the steps for savior protocol go as follows: 1. Roll to hit 2. Roll to wound 3. Allocate the wound to a nearby drone 4. The wound is turned into a single mortal wound regardless of its original damage 5. The drone takes a mortal wound 6. Shield drones may make a 5+ FNP so if there was a w...

Re: Tanks - what a disappointment

Yeah, 3 Gun Rigs with 1 markerlight will average about 1.53 successful wound rolls a turn. 2 Hammerheads + Longstrike average 1.81 successful wound rolls a turn. So you've more chance of wounding with the hammerheads. Plus you're averaging slightly more mortal wound chances (0.38 hits will result in...

Re: Tanks - what a disappointment

Personally I've found them just as good as in 7th, if not better due to their survivability. Got a tournament coming up in a few weeks and I've got Longstrike and a Hammerhead, both with Railgun, seeker missile, and gun drones. Every game they've done pretty well, mostly failing because of my talent...

For most suit weapons I use 3mm x 1mm neodymium magnets (N40 or higher). They should be enough to get you started magnetising most things :)

Re: A use for sniper drones?

Probably the best setup we can hope for at the moment, especially with the 3+ to hit. I'm hoping our codex fixes them as they were always the first thing in my list in 7th. As you say though, doesn't really fix them enough for any sort of competitive use

Re: Asking for advice on purchases

I think my FLGS has an optimized pathfinder box, so probably I should get that. How many are the recommended breachers for a fish? 10 for them to go with an ethereal and fireblade? I usually run 10 Breachers with a guardian drone and shield drone. The guardian drone is a must as it ups the breacher...

Re: I'm afraid of painting Tau tanks.

The biggest problem is getting the consistency just right to get a good flow but no runs (which are a massive pain on our tanks). I find you should be aiming for at least 3 coats, maybe even 5 or more depending on your colour, if you want a smooth finish. Try to be as smooth and thin as possible, th...
