Re: 8th Edition Tidewall transport capacity

Oh ny Tau.. You're right. It has special rules as to what can be embarked unlike other transports. And I wanted to put 6 ion rifkes in one, guess that's out. :-( Ok, what you can do at least is take a shieldwall and a defence platform and place some characters and two squads in those and deploy as o...

Re: 8th Edition Tidewall transport capacity

One nice thing about the tidewall is that you can place two 5man squads of infantry in it and still only deploy as one drop, meaning that it is much easier to get 6 trooops for the biggest formation and still have a good shot at being the first to play.

Re: New Codexes announced

They don't have to make new models for kroot, just bring back the old cavalry and big monsters.

I have the models but no rules for this edition.

Re: Can't find a rule/statement

If you don't use the Fast Dice rule then the whole game crumbles like a house of cards.. since the same rules are referenced in close combat.

Re: 8th Edition - Tidewall Fortifications

My friends and I also interpret the passengers being able to fire overwatch and of course supporting fire while inside the transport, so they have become quite useful- Owerwatch has been definitely nerfed in the latest FAQ, and I don't think Supporting Fire can be used since techincally the squad i...

Re: Vertical movement question

But that still makes multi-story ruins weird.. Say you have a skyscraper, 5 stories tall. If a model with fly wants to fly across it, it can move the full 8 inches horizontally and not care about the skyscraper. However, if it wants to land on top of the skyscraper, it suddenly can't because it must...

Re: New 8th FAQ

Piranhas and other skimmers who do not have the explicit rule to measure from the hull now measure from the base for ranges, but you still use the model to determine LOS. That was one of the new questions answered in the updated develeopers commentary. (Now called Stepping Into A New Edition, I miss...

Re: New 8th FAQ

New Saviour Protocols means Heavy Gun Drones can tank 3 lascannon shots each. ;) But the Understrength rules specification.. that's just.. ugh. That makes it easy to get 30 rerolls even in like a 1000pt list. (6 Troops? 6 Conscripts! 18 points..). The only thing that costs much is HQ:s. Edit: Ah, my...

Re: Velocity Tracker Stacking

Edit: Also to add, it is UP to 3. You can take zero weapons and support systems and that would be legal. Hmm, another sentence where English fails us. The unit listing comes with a weapon and then the option of swapping that weapon with up to three items from the weapon and/or system list. If you s...

Re: Commanders and XV8s - What loadouts will you bring in 8th Edition?

Anyone had trouble landing a big squad? Or am I worrying too much? Since you are now able to put them however you want as long as they are in unit coherency and don't have to put them in a big pile and you no longer scatter I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to land them. (Unless your ...

Re: Velocity Tracker Stacking

There's a bucketload of things that can be +1 to hit that DOESN'T have the hard to hit special rule so this wargear at 2 points for crisis or several broadsides in a unit is a must have IMO. The problem there is that the wargear takes a slot that could be better used for weapons on XV8. On Broadsid...

Re: 8th Ed FORGEWORLD Tau

fresh answer from FW about the hammerhead variants (question wasn't mine) The main question then becomes.. how many more point values did they make that error with? If everything then some stuff becomes really useful, and even Heavy Gun Drones become viable. XV9 might even become overpowered, since...

Re: Manta strike on sparse boards

Even if you can only manta strike in your own deployment zone that also has some advantages. If the opponent starts first then he can't shoot at it and if you start first you can optimally place them after the has deployed his whole army. There aren't many downsides to putting them in Manta Strike.

Stealth suit squad nearby with homing beacon. Make sure you get first turn. Walk up to enemy and throw down homing beacon. Teleport in 3-9 XV8 suits with three flamers each into flamer range. Buuuuuuuuuurn. 6-18 accompanying gun drones uses a drone controller from stealth squad to add a further rain...

Yes, page 175 in the right margins at the bottom. Still amazes me that they put such important rules all over the margins instead of just making the rules a few pages longer..

Re: 8th Ed: Cyclonic Ion Blaster vs Burst Cannon

CIB:s are very nice in that their overload strength is 8 and their damage gets bumped to D3. That means that they can kill vehicles in a pinch, wounding Leman Russes at 4+ instead of 5+ and other vehicles at 3+. Then D3 wounds. A squad of three XV8:s with 3xCIB each killed a Space Marine Vindicator ...

Re: Tetras - worth it?

I think the sensor tower is a much more interesting source of the 3-token ML shot I agree and actually just ordered one. Although I'm concerned about it getting sniped given how tall and easy to spot it is. Maybe we play too lenient on "true line of sight" but it seems impossible to hide ...

Re: Skyshield Landing Pad in 8th

Thanks! That cleared up that point.

However, the tidewall is simple since it has a transport capacity but the Skyshield doesn't. Are there any rules I've missed allowing units to be on top of a unit with the Building keyword?
