It says 3.12.16 in the top right in this pic (taken from the 40k reddit).

If thats a pre-order date then surely they're cutting it fine in terms of generating pre-christmas sales, my assumption was that is the actual release date, and that a pre-order date for retailers would be a couple of weeks before?

"A couple of weeks before" would mean the coming weekend or the week after. Possible I guess.

Ah man I wish I had this to start with two years ago. :( I had the Firebase Support Cadre instead but it offered no savings. Still cool though.

Be sure to go to those websites that offer 20-25% off GW merch. I know a lot of them do preorders, and this will likely be on the list.

Depends largely on the outlet. My FLGS lets me pre order as soon as I have a leaked image of a thing, before they even know the price or get retailer info regarding it from GW.

Same FLGS offers those extreme discounts, too. After taxes I'll probably end up paying around $130-$135.

I'm just starting to collect Tau, and this box, together with one of the SC ones looks like a perfect way to do it. Hats off to GW, these boxes are actually a good deal and a solid expansion of any starter force.

Starting Tau - What to buy?-threads are going to be answered far easier now:

"Get a Tau Starter Box and a Targeted Reconnaissance Cadre. And maybe a Riptide. Boom, all you need."

Edit: Reconnaissance is a hell of a word to spell and pronounce for a german @_@

Always buy 3 riptides! Must have 3 minimal.

Dropped a line at both my local stores, the owners of each are my good friends. They have not heard anything as owners about this yet, they have both specifically talked to there GW reps. Regardless I asked each one to hold one for me :D

Assuming the will be a limited item so each store may only get a certain allotment. Had to make sure i am at the front of the line! :)

I'm itching to hear what the formation bonuses are for this.

I'm only disappointed by the pathfinders. I'm trying to build a low model count army and my markerlights are coming from the drone net formation. So PFs are really not something I want.

In any case I will pick up at least 1 of these boxes as the savings are pretty good.

So, there it is.

Models worth 218€ in a box for 130€. At least in Germany.
Did anyone already put his finger on that box?
Because there are two things I'd like to know;

First: What are the formations special rules?

Second: The description says the box contains a XV86 Coldstar with a drone. Is there still the possibility to build a XV85 Enforcer instead?

These box sets usually have all you need to make whatever variants for that model that exists. For example, I purchased the Kill Team bundle that has the TAC squad and Firewarrior Squad. Both SM and FW came with all you need to make whatever you wanted.

I would be surprised if this box set came with only one set of plastic for one version of the Commander model as it is not the norm.

Lastly, it seems like these sets usually come at a discount such that buying the bundle is cheaper than buying those models separately. It might be worth it to pick up a few models that you need, then sell the spures you don't need on eBay.

Hell, no! I magnetize the heck out of my models!

My magnetizing-rampage had its' pinnacle while building my XV8x Commander:

- The "hats" (Coldstar/Enforcer headshells) are magnetized
- The Coldstar Weaponry is magnetized
- The Thrusters are magnetized
- The Coldstar fins are glued

Hardest part was to find a pose which fits both characteristics.

Anyway, I know the box is not shipped before 10th of december but there are also no leaks yet on the formations' rules. Or my google-fu left me :D

I ended up pre-ordering last night. Can't beat the deal on this. Kind of hoping some family members spoil me these holidays and I end up with a second box ;p

Still waiting on the formation details/bonuses, hoping it's something interesting. I'm just getting started with Tau, they seem to have a lot of decent/different formations. My main army is Tyranids and our formations are joke.

For those who are curious BoLS appears to have the rules up.

So long as the Commander is on the table one unit from the formation can make a 6" move at the start of the turn. If it does not make its normal move then it counts as stationary. Neat enough for pathfinders or the broadside I suppose.

I suppose I could give the 6in move to the devilfish.... And whatever I put in the devilfish...

Well .... it's a lot of tax to give the Pathfinder or the Broadside pseudo relentless.
Considering with the same models i'd already have half of an Infiltration Cadre + some which sounds a lot more fun to use or most of an Optimised Stealth Cadre + some which also sounds a lot more fun to use plus also is LOT stronger....no i don't think i'd ever use that formation.
The box value is still incredible though, so pick it up if the models are still on your list.
