I know this has been beat to death, but for the elderly here I know the Tau are from a collective of much of my childhood:

Gundam, Voltron, Thundercats, etc. All that stuff originated with Gigantor, then Ultraman, then Goldar from the late 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s. The world actually began before 1980 :P

Oddly, the Tau themselves are the archetype "alien" going back as far as sci-fi itself. Little Green men just turned blue. Noseless, big eyed, short, hairless. About sums up most pre-spaceage alien races. http://content.answers.com/main/content ... aliens.jpg

Battlesuits themselves I think were obviously enfluenced majorly by Battletech. If you look at the timeline, the popularity of Battletech was in decline about the same time the Tau appear. Not that I think it is a direct ripoff, but as others have noted the "interface" is directly from the Jade Falcon trillogy where it is described in some detail as a young pilot undergoes his training.

Wow! One might almost call this thread an infestation! Not that it's terrible or anything, but that its survived so long! Perhaps we should create a new forum just for this topic! :D

By the way, what would Bruce Lee's Stats be? And who could win in a fight? Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris? I'm betting on Bruce! :crafty:

Well, you see, Bruce Lee would win. At first. Then Chuck Norris would remember that he doesn't really have respect for historical figures and roundhouse kick Bruce Lee into orbit. Bruce Lee would burn up on reentry.

Tut tut boys, go watch Way of the Dragon to see Bruce Lee beat Chuck Norris to death. In the Coliseum, no less.

My apologies AJ. I obviously do not know my Chuck Norris history well enough ;).

After a little searching, I was able to find a clip of the fight.

I'm going to have to save this link! The suckiest fighting I've ever seen! (Plus its funny.) Looks like after the middle, they're having a little hopping contest.

And I liked the chest-hair pull thing Lee pulls on Norris. :)

in line with this thread, I would like to add the following unit

Mankrik -

Anyone seen my wife? When mankrik is on the board any model with leadership less then 10 must spend it's entire turn looking for mankrik's wife. Any player with a model with higher then leadership 10 must mock the other players.

Just before this passes out of our collective attention spam I wanted to show you all this. It may not seen like much, but about 5 minuites in there is a truly epic battle between pirates and ninja - IN SPACE!

Couple of opinions here:

1. No more Chuck Norris. Please. I hear way too much of that idiocy, and frankly, it has gotten old.

2. Tau strike me a very socialist/communist, whereas the Imperium are definitely more fascist. The hallmarks are all there.

Please, someone, argue with me. As long as I hear no more Chuck Norris, I care not a whit.

Tau Government

Utilitarian Imperialism

Communism and Socialism aren't quite applicable, believe it or not.

A rigid Caste structure means neither work.

Communism:
Communism is an ideology that seeks to establish a classless, stateless social organization, based upon common ownership of the means of production.

Utilitarianism:
Utilitarianism is the ethical doctrine that the moral worth of an action is solely determined by its contribution to overall utility. It is thus a form of consequentialism. Utility--the good to be maximized-- has been defined by various thinkers as happiness, pleasure, or well-being.

And I agree... Chuck Norris is getting old, both here and in real life. Saw him out in Iraq when he came to visit us at Al Taqaddum. :)

I am starting to wonder why this thread is still here. No offense to the OP or anything, but it has really gotten blown into randomness. I saw a better thread not only closed but deleted yesterday... Though "better" is definitely a relative term... :/

This thread is still here because it's location in memory interects with the space time co-ordinates for funny. This thread can't die, all it can do is become more random. Besides, I need something to laugh at between writing my craptanic english essay (17 seek paragraphs! ), and that topic yesterday about left handed swordsmen that really brought me down. (Don't bother searching, it doesn't exist anymore.)

Edit: Keep in mind I never expect to see this kind of thread pop up here ever again, and I intend to make the most of it.

The first thing I do when I reach this topic is scroll down to the bottom to see if its locked. If not, I read the posts and wonder the same thing That Guy does.

Where's your Texas spirit, Col? I would have thought that any thread that has the words "Chuck" and "Norris" in it so many times would have you captivated.

By the way, I have it on good authority that Tau were indeed based on the Smurfs. Think about it. The connection to the Molemen is not as tenuous as first appearances suggest.

Based on Smurfs? That's an interesting observation. :)

Anyway, Chuck Norris was REALLY big around here during the 90's (he was once my childhood hero, replaced by many. Mind you, Tael might be next. :) ).

Ever since he went from "Walker Texas Ranger" to "Cheesy Kung Fu, Invincible White Guy", his popularity went downhill.

Now, he's just cameo material.

and where is that airstrike anyway? (looks at the markerlight and contemplates it, but in the end decides to stick to his gun(s): the rail rifle)

Threadomancy par excellence here (well, as an 'O rank I suppose I might just get away with it if the Founder Members don't spot it!), but just as an FYI the Poor Poor Space Mole Men are STILL in vogue on this day in history, 11 years after their inception. Keep your eyes open, folks - the rule about the Thread Take-over still remains active. You have been warned.

Carry on, carry on.
