How did you get into wargaming?
I've always been a gamer. I've played D&D and other RPGs for years. I also enjoy tactics and statistics. Wargaming always seemed like fun but it was expensive. Now I both have disposable income and I had three friends try to get me into it within the space of two months. I figured I'd have people to play with so here I am. :-)
How did you get into Tau?
I do like the models more than the others I've seen, but the deciding factor for me was the "Greater Good" and the fact that they are generally the most "good guy" in this universe. Hoping GW doesn't mess with that.
What would be your second piece of advice (after "read the freakin' rules") to a new Tau player?
I'm very new but I would say there are two sides of this - tactically and execution. I'd include list-building in tactics.
Tactics: Stay at range, jump shoot jump where appropriate, and try different tactics and units. It's a game and you learn by losing too.
Execution: Make cheat sheets. Jot down key stats for your units on index cards. Have the wound chart on a quick sheet of some sort. This reinforces the stats and chart (by writing them down) and makes it easy to find only what you need for your current list. Ease of finding something = quicker learning.
What is your Tau colour scheme?
Still working this out a bit. However, breachers are mainly gray, then blue and white. I figure they are shipboard or urban combat specialists and I feel like gray = ship hull. Strike teams are either black/deep blue/gold or black/bright green/gold (green is also for pathfinders). Larger unit types attached to these will have a primary scheme with a few marks on them from other units. For instance right now my ghostkeel is primarily blue (works with strike teams) but will have a few small green and gray marks on it because it also works with the other units sometimes. Hope this makes sense, but that is the thought.
How did you find this site/the old site, and how long have you been a member?
I was trying to learn about Tau and this is the main site that came up for articles. THANK YOU!
Just signed up.
What are the origins of your ATT username?
These are good questions. I like them!
I started my online presence back on Prodigy and BBSs, mainly in Christian chat rooms. Back then it was just "Prophet". Then, as I got on sites and was not the first 'prophet', I quickly decided to standardize my username. 2+2=4, 2*2 = 4, 2^2 = 4... anyway, that ended up becoming the digits after my username. Bonus points for what number I use on the rare occasions I have to add a 4th. :-)
Have you reviewed the ATT Membership & Forum Rules?
I did. I almost skipped it assuming I am generally forum friendly, but I went back and read everything I could find.
Where and how often do you usually play?
I play at Titan Games & Hobbies in Timonium, Maryland.
Do you have any other armies, for 40K or another system?
Nope, I just started.
What is your favourite and least favourite army to play against?
I've really only played against variations of Marines, I think. I did play against Magnus and some chaos folks and that was kind of terrible. :-) Psykers!
What is your best and worst 40K moment?
What does/do your family/significant other/friends think about your 'funny toys'?
My wife is on board, I'm trying to get my dad to play.
Funny anecdote though - I was playing D&D with my gaming group (mostly some Firaxis guys, actually), and two of us were talking about 40k. My friend was very excited I had started playing, or at the time building. One of my other buddies looks over, points, laughs, and says "Ha ha - that's even more geeky than D&D!" :-)
What are some of your other interests?
Science fiction, writing (science fiction), martial arts (TKD, baguazhang, jiu-jitsu, and krav maga), programming, probably more but those are the main ones. I guess I should also mention I am a certified USA Weightlifting coach, do a lot of working out and Crossfit, and my wife is a beast of a powerlifter. :-)
Do you have any pets?
Hah! Two dogs, a bunch of fish, and a bearded dragon. Love the critters.
What is your favourite band?
Ugh, that's tough. I really like Icon for Hire, Flyleaf, Amaranthe, but I also love The Smiths or Echo & the Bunnymen... but I could also get up and just listen to "Simon & Garfunkle radio". <shrug>
In other news, I'm still working on painting, which is an interesting learning process. I also REALLY like to build stuff, which I never thought would be a thing. I built an ADN almost before I finished my first strike team. I also have a building in progress that I really need to ask some questions about from a rules and modeling perspective. Which means I am not sure if I should post under rules or modeling. Anyway, thanks all!
