Old XV88 Kit

So I picked up this old tau XV88 kit on eBay and I'm unsure on a couple of things since the instructions aren't great. Wondered if anyone here knows.

First, I don't see these little bits on the tutorial picture anywhere. Looks like part of the feet, or maybe something for the drone?

And then the feet themselves, the bits at the top of the pic (Back of the piece) look out of place. Are they flashes that need to be cut or just the way it's supposed to be?

You are right with both.
The plastic bit indeed is one of the Crisis feet and the metal bit you are talking about indeed is just flash you have to cut away.

The part in your first picture are regular xv8 feet. You get those because the kit is a regular xv8 with the metal bits to upgrade it into an xv88. And yes, the little triangle bits at the back of the metal feet are flash that need to be trimmed off.

Thanks guys, that makes a lot of sense. So I could just use it as a normal XV8? Might make sense doing that since the old model doesn't even have the right size base ^^

The old model also doesn't have the right base size for Crisis suits and is generally a bit smaller than the current ones though. :D

Ye, the base size isn't "right" for crisis either, before the new kits were released, both crisis and broadsides had 40mm(39mm irl) bases, now crisis are on 50mm(49mm irl) and broadsides are on 60mm(64mm irl).

Also, the new crisis suits are a steal if you buy them in "Start Collecting" box and they look much better. And with 8th ed. changes they have minimum unit size of 3, so you can't even use it as suicide fusion blaster drop. (Unless you convert it or pretend it's a commander model.)

I see. Will keep it as an XV88. Maybe find the correct base.

As a side note, I have an oldish battleforce like this. Are all the bases in this one correct?

I've heard stealthsuits come with 32mm bases(same diameter as drone flying base but the normal black style), but I can't confirm it since the sprue is the same and I didn't buy any new ones since the whole rebasing w/ new base sizes begun.

For old models like old XV8s and old XV88s, keep them on the bases they come with. Stealthsuits, on the other hand, have had their bases updated (25mm > 32mm) but the models themselves haven't changed. Your call if you want to use 32mm bases, but the 25mm bases do look a bit small on Stealthsuits.

Ye the 32mm bases seem quite cheap on eBay. Might just pick some up.

Would definitely recommend using the bigger sizes for both Stealth Suits and Crisis/Broadside. Less arguing with super picky opponents, models fall over less often and more space to do some basing.

just for my curiosity, has IRL (pretty green island you mean?) different size of millimeters? :)
