Hi All,

Thank you for your replies, been great seeing some veteran faces about :D

Would you recommend the switch? I know that's what you use, but in all honesty how much does the quality of the paint job vary between the two paints if the amount of skill remains constant?

Actually, I might recommend Coat D'Arms paints, available from the UK; theyre the same formulations as Citadel back in the day.. well, HMG to be more accurate. They supplied GW and still have the old pots in stock. I've ordered the classics again for my tau. (Vomit Brown = Billious Brown)

@Kakapo42 - Yeah, it did too, nothing like a side shot across a long front of figures, classic movie charge scene technique :D

Here's to a new year of insane modelling - caught myself retouching the scheme on my Naga'la Auxiliary....

Tael, I know I've asked before, but -- what blue/grey are you using? It's incredible.

Now I know where all the avatars come form. Your cadre looks amazing! The paintjob is topnotch and I like the subtle change of your XV8 (the guy in the middle).

I also like your specialists and the Mine drones, they are a very nice touch to your army. In Infinity, the journalist would even be of use … :crafty:
I see that you already have your own Longstrike. He looks great, especially the facial expression. Be prepared for getting sued by GW, they do not like it when somebody steals their ideas before they come up with them ;)

Where is your commander? Do you have a second cadre, or do you just have some models painted in another paint scheme? I saw some of your greyish blueish guys.

I am curious of what you are going to add to your cadre with the upcoming release ;)

Coat D'Arms paints? To the google-mobil!

@Lyi'ot The blue is a base and highlight using Vallejo – Model Colour : 816 Luftwaffe Blue Base, with a 904 Dark Blue Grey highlight.

Hi Phineos; Thanks for checking the cadre out, yah indeed - a few faces in the avatars came from my Cadre a while back. I'm actually added more Avatars shortly, drawn up by Duredhel.

The Mine drones need to be finished properly, so working on those at the moment. I've always liked grizzled Tau leaders, you should see Ui'Jhin in my Urban cadre. I think he is still on the forum as a WIP.

My commander.. is well, in pieces. I think I will be buying some Forgeworld goodies and doing up something special in the next few weeks. That and finishing parts of the Urban Cadre that never made it into WD.

What will I add? Pathfinders, Aliens and upgraded suits. I'm also dabbling with the idea of a Dirty Dozen or (Tau Thirteen?) project.

And yes Coat D'Arms - all you old school Citadel paints; no idea the joy when I discovered these. I've got decade old pots, still fluid and useful today. :D

- Tael.

These just jumped out at me!

Choco-chip camo - great minds think alike (my IG) although I think you may have been first :P
The green pouches look good to.

Nicely done.

I have not tried Coat D'Arms paints but I am slowly moving from GW to Vallejo myself (there is a local shop which sells them).

Choco-chip indeed hahah. Those pants are done with Vallejo Model colour browns actually.

I predominantly use Model & Game Colour from Vallejo. Citadel metals and inks remain top of my list though. That and Vomit Brown ;)

Your models look great individually, but together? They're fantastic.

Have you added more of the darker brown to the vehicle scheme? They seem to look darker... Perhaps it's just me.

I also love the Pathfinders, and always have done - The camouflage scheme is very reminiscent of the American equipment from the First Gulf War; I assume it was one of your influences?

Oh wow, Seb - that is an army to just ogle. Simply beautiful.

To depart from the main topic and address the question of paint types: I personally use both Vallejo and Coat d'Arms, as well as the GW paints (none of the new variety as yet) and some MiniPaints.

Vallejo's paints I find to be extremely good, though Model Color tends to be slightly denser than Game Color in my opinion. As suppliers of this make are more prolific I won't add any links.

Coat d'Arms have as already mentioned still got some of the really old colours, available from Wayland Games and other suppliers like Black Hat Miniatures. I really like this paint maker and have several of their colours. To quote from http://www.jenova.dk concerning the range:
Good:
- Very good selection (both a fantasy and a historical range)
- My favorite inks
- Cheaper than most
- Good quality bottles
- Good coverage

Bad:
- Some of the paints can have slightly different colours from bottle to bottle. I would be a little conserned about using these for army painting.
- Slight tendensy to show brush strokes.
- Some of the lighter colours can be a little grainy.

Must haves:
Bone (a wonderful soft colour)
Ink Wash - Flesh (I wouldn't paint skin without it)
All the old GW colours that you loved

Avoids:
Haven't found any yet, but I should add that I haven't tried them all.

And now back to the topic!

E.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback lads - I've been busying myself in the background on new projects to add to the Cadre; I'll add those as soon as I can.

@Wodai - I'm actually repainting two of the Urban suits after a refit, I'll post up and Urban Cadre version in a fortnight I imagine.

@Fraggle - hmmm no, could also be the lighting, I did have to adjust the saturation a little. My influence was actually eggshells - much like my Urban Suits. :D

@Eigle - That's pretty much my primer for researching paints, Jenova made a great list there :)
