And on another note, I heard some really terrifying rumours! Heard that GW is to close down the specialist game range, I haven't been able to confirm this yet, but I really hope the rumours are false.
That would mean, no more BFG, BB, Epic or Inquisition.. :(

Unfortunately it seems this is true. Forgeworld at least is pulling it's Specialist Games support, and GW appears to be doing likewise. :::(

Fortunately it will not mean the end of them, simply that you won't be able to get models from GW anymore. Get yourself up a force or two and find a friend who's interested and you're good to go!

Yah. I need to muster up on the BFG end, getting a few Tau ships before they pull the plug.

Also really need to get me an Eldar Ranger from the Inquisition range, it's such a good looking model, also thinking on getting Eisenhorn.

"The fleet is on it's way."

"We're going to make it."

"Lar'shi one to all units, report status,"

"Kir'qath squadron one, standing by."

"Lar'shi two, we've taken some hits. Armour holding and no hull compromise, we'll be alright."

"Il'fannor one standing by."

"Kir'qath squadron two standing by."

"Skether'qan one standing by."

"Skether'qan two standing by."

"Skether'qan three reporting unidentified contacts on sensors, get ready for company!"

So the first of my BFG panic order shipments arrived today, giving me a full compliment of Defender class escorts, Messenger starships, Hero and Merchant capital ships, as well as a pair of orbitals to provide my fleet with resupply, repairs and other logistics. Aside from a slight mystery with the orbitals (there seems to be a couple of missing pieces, and the launch bay piece present seems to be somewhat bent, but I am unsure if this is normal or not), they appear in good condition with no major miscasts or defects.

Recieving incoming transmission from T'au Kor'ar'tol, allied forces are arriving.

"Kor'vattra fleet K-42, this is the Or'es El'eath Ko'vash'shi. Looks like you could use a hand. All Wardens and weapon crews, pick your targets, and engage!"

I think that will be all the Homeworld 2 references for now. :P

I also received my Custodian and it's attendant Wardens. Once again they appear to be in excellent condition with no appreciable faults. Somewhat bizarrely, Forgeworld still does not think they have even shipped, and the order is still listed as 'acknowledged/awaiting packing'.

Pictures will come, just as soon as I can dig myself out from under the mountain of miniatures that has piled up in my hobby space.

Btw, do we know when they're terminating the specialist games department?

Well, no one works in specialist games anymore anyways... and they are not producing any more miniatures... so I'd argue it's already been terminated.

You can always get other ships to make proxies, if it is confirmed that GW discontinue BFG, and also stay left to everyone to make adaptations to the regulation to add ships to the different fleets

Right then, it took me a lot longer than I anticipated, but I finally managed to clear enough hobby space to start on my wave of BFG ships.

The first I started to assemble was my second Merchant, which will become my flagship, but having already documented a Merchant I will not repeat myself.

Instead, I'll start with the two top-of-the-line Lar'shi Hero class starships. They have been fitted with a full compliment of attack craft and their heavy missile magazines are fully loaded.

Image Image Image Image

I also acquired a contingent of Kir'quath Defender class starships, massive hulking brutes of escorts bedecked in railcannons. They're easily the largest escorts I have, though they're not quite at cruiser length. As a note to anyone who has a few on the way to them, if you're getting them unassembled then the left engine thrusters will very likely need some considerable clean-up work, as this seems to be the main injection point on the mould and consequently has significant tabbing and flash attached. On the plus-side though, unlike many other BFG ships they have near perfect balance on their stands.

Image Image Image Image Image

Finally, rounding off my escort force is a trio of Skether'qan messenger class starships. Despite supposedly being one of the smallest Tau spacecraft they are surprisingly hefty ships, easily dwarfing the Orca gunships and only just shorter than the Defenders. Once again they have exceptional balance.

Image Image Image

Last of all are my orbitals.

Image Image Image Image

Unfortunately, they are not complete at the time of this writing, in large part due to being easily the most horrifically torturously difficult models I have ever had to assemble so far. I kid you not, I am very close to literally crying tears of frustration over it. Already I have one of the antenna pieces MIA (why oh why couldn't they have made them part of the main piece?), and it seems the three-pod piece is too heavy to hold with glue alone, meaning I will have to get the tools necessary to pin it. Sigh, and I was hoping to spend that money I had saved on more models...

I am also very sorry if the images are too large. I have resized them to 640x480, but it does not seem to have had much of an effect.

You lucky dog! I wish I had gotten into BFG a bit sooner. Work was really slow, and by the time I had disposable cash to invest into the game it got discontinued. Still searching for scraps, might have some luck yet. And if I'm still holding out on owning a modest fleet, I hope you won't give up either.

I have some back tracking to do with the lore you're writing for this considering I've just happened upon this thread, but if you get stuck for ideas you could always include ATT's Battle of Change. Heck, I might even write up the adventures of my own small Colonization fleet (if I ever get the models, of course).

I'm eager to see how you progress on these models. Maybe once they're done you could spoil us with a picture of the whole fleet so far? :D

Relax, I've long since recovered from my heroic BSOD brought on by discovering BFG's discontinuation. I fully intend to work on this fleet and it's (very very extensive) background lore until the bitter end.

Funny you mention the battle of Change though, because I have since started filling my background with all kinds of little references and nods to it (you may notice that one of the short story-snippets takes place just after it for example).

At last. Yes I was tested, yes my patience was tried beyond breaking point, yes by the end of it I wanted to take a Chain-axe to the darned things, but I did it. My orbitals are complete.

Image

Alas, Imperial raids have damaged the left-hand one, and part of it's long-range communications array has been destroyed (I still don't know where that infernal antenna piece vanished to).

There is also my Custodian, quite possibly the last one ever made by Forgeworld. Unfortunately it's Kor'el informs me that it's attack craft wings were destroyed in the last battle it was in, and the Kor'ar'tol does not appear to have any replacements to spare. In case you never got a chance to get one, this would have been what you got.

Image

Image Image

From left to right: bridge, main engines, keel, main hull.

And the finished starship. For an enormous battleship, the Custodian model is actually tiny. It's barely longer than a Defender class escort and half the length of a cruiser at most, though it's wingspan is approximately cruiser length.

Image

Fortunately though, it's attached wardens are still fully operational.

Image Image

As well as having excellent balance, they're also perfectly scaled with the Custodian, and are in fact able to fit comfortably on it's internal docking clamps.

Image Image

I also managed to rescue the remnants of a small Kor'O'vesh fleet. A small squadron of Castellans and a pair of Emissaries are standing by.

Image Image Image Image

Oddly, one of them appears to have been lost in the warp. It appears that the pack only contains 3 ships, but I could swear it was supposed to be a pack of four. It may just be my mind playing tricks on me however...

And the Emissaries.

Image Image

From left to right: conning towers, main engines, hulls.

And the assembled ships.

Image

Looking back it seems I never documented the packaging for ordinance. For those of you who are curious, this is what it looks like.

Image Image

Finally, a shot of the entire wave. Looks like I have my work cut out for me over the next few weeks...

Image

For those curious, and for fun, here is the original size I had in mind for my fleet.

Projected fleet size: Kor'vattra K-42

-1 Il'fannor Merchant class starship, Ke'lshan configuration
-2 Kass'l Orca class gunships
