Artwork [Kael'yn's Tau fonts - 2015 update]

Post#1 » Jun 30 2012 08:34

Hello fellow Tau writers

I've made some Tau font in TTF format.

Tau alphabet
http://www.mediafire.com/download/z2r7zg2f8lci622/TauFont.ttf
Image
It is based on GW own font symbols, but done from scratch (less round than this one).
I've added additionnal symbols and links to accentuated characters (é->e)
Content:
GW original characters:
-0-7 numbers (8 and 9 are a reminder for those thinking Tau has ten fingers...)
-A-P and R-Y letters
Missing characters from codex:
-Q has the C glyph
-Z has the S glyph
GW based characters:
-a-z are derived from their capital glyph
-accentuated characters using the non accentuated glyph (é->e, ù->u, Ê->E)...
-some special chars : @, oe, ae, ...
Other characters (symbols):
-a lot of them are tau-styled (i.e. "rounded cubic")

Tau markings (IN PROGRESS)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/rwbg6jmq2mlbr97/W40kTauMarkings.ttf
Image
Based on GW decal sheet: stripes, dots and bonding knife
Content:
uppercase=simple symbols
lowercase=combined symbols
@=bonding knife
TODO:
- Add other variations (ideas are welcome)

Tau Sept symbols (IN PROGRESS)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/5oi7n41qwavqoak/W40kTauSeptsSymbols.ttf
Image
Sorted by expansion then by name
Content:
A=Tau
B=Bork'an, C=Dal'yth, ... (1st Expansion)
Z=Farsight Enclave (use "Z." with the dot red to create the symbol)
lowercase= sept symbols, but with inverted colors.
0=color background for lower case (some programs need to have other letters over "0", others can perfectly reproduce "0a" to a 2-colors symbol)
TODO:
- Add other designs (ideas are welcome)
- Extend the overlay process to create a custom Sept maker (e.g. : Big circle+small circle on top = Tau symbol)

DISCLAIMER wrote:Non-commercial use only. Made by a fan for fans.
Games Workshop is the only copyright owner of the original font and symbols.
No challenge intended.

Very cool! I might have to make myself a little banner in GIMP with this. Good work!

Excellent work, something i could never create myself, it has given me the inspiration to put my most notable Warriors names on the bases of my army. However I do prefer the slightly rounded Font, as it looks more Tau'ish.

Re: My Tau fonts (2015 update)

An update to my first topic on this board, as an addition to my recent work on Tau decals:

Utility fonts (beta versions):
Sept symbols: http://www.mediafire.com/download/5oi7n41qwavqoak/W40kTauSeptsSymbols.ttf
Sorted by expansion phase then alphabetically: A=Tau,B=Bork'an,C=Daly'th,...
Lowercase invert the glyphs ("white become black")
Farsight note:
"Z" is Farsight Enclave black, "." (=full stop) add the red round.
Just type "Z." with the Z black and the dot red

Markings:http://www.mediafire.com/download/rwbg6jmq2mlbr97/W40kTauMarkings.ttf
Bonding knife is the @, upper case are simple symbols (dots or rects), lower case are combined (dots and rects)

Todo:
- Add more markings (ideas are welcome)
- Expand the sept font to create custom symbols by working with overlayed glyphs (see Farsight symbol note above)
- Add italic, bold, outlined, ... Tau font variations

If you would like, I will sticky this effort and amalgamate the posts. Or, you can sort the posts if you wish and let me know when you are ready.

This will be a nice addition. :)

Thanks.
My new post is only there to "reanimate" this topic on the board to gather new users inputs (updating the first post didn't do that).
If you think this work is worthy enough to be added as a Resource article, you can delete my latest posts as its content is already in the first post.

I keep this topic for all my fonts (So I've updated the title) and the first post will be cleaned once the fonts will be fully done.
