FYI [ATT History]

Having been a member to ATT for a couple of months, I am surprised at how neat, organized, and easy-to-read this site is. No advertisements, and although I don't know much about site creation, I don't think its exactly free.

So, how did this site come to be? Who came up with the idea?

Apart from the questions, I think that it would be rather cool to create a timeline of ATT, birth to present, so newcomers can know how it all happen.

What do you guys think?

(by the way, if this has already been discussed, could someone please orient me towards it? I have not found anything using the search.)

Hi Lutin,

Gosh, now that is a question. We've certainly come a long way from launch day. Let me see how well I do in fairly sweeping strokes;

Back in the day, Mech Tau Tactica was a MSN Group message board, full of great articles (glorified board posts) and a community of Tau enthusiasts. Myself, roped in by Orange Bell, PShar's Rifles, TonkaTruckDriver and Kai'Lore made a decision to create a more flexible PHP forum to expand the community and do justice to the articles and idea members were creatings, and give rise to more easily showcased projects that you see today.

The membership migrated and Advanced Tau Tactica developed onwards. Overall we aimed to maintain a pleasant environment for posting and discussion, with a clean and uncluttered look.

Soon after beginning, we setup a forum for TonkaTruckDriver's original Academy articles, the forerunner to Academy 2.0 articles members of the community have written today.

Since then, a couple of big Modelling competitons and a Painting competiton have past. Over the years Admin folks have moved on to other commitments or hobby directions with the core Admin staff of TonkaTruckDriver, Pshar's Rifles and myself still active (though I am travelling on and off presently). There is a new breed of Admin and mod staff who help run the site and give it new focus and energy in the various ATT initiatives. New features have been added over time, with emoticons to graphically enhanced gameplay articles. We've grown from only a few hundred to now a few thousand, and along with that the team maintaining the quality and discourse on ATT has grown.

Presently the break down of our active staff are :

The 'O's (The original Admin team, just the five of us and several hundred members)
P'Shar's Rifles
Shas'El Tael
T0nkaTruckDriver
Kai'Lore (ret.)
Orange Bell (ret.)

Eiglepulper (Our newest 'O)

The El's
Sa'cea Mont'yr
Doombringer
RevRanDom

The Shas'Vre's
Dal'yth Mont'sha
Elliott
Fraggle
Mnemonic
Prophaniti
SpartanTau
Theambit

And presently we have a massive 245 Shas'Ui members whom help us (The Mods and Admins) identify great posts with their cool Markelight tools, new members and in general keep ATT a clean and pleasant read for all. The Shas'Ui almost about to out number the original membership in 2006!

That's a pretty broad strokes retrospective on ATT, but within a short time you'll note the cool threads, posters and articles that are on ATT, created over several years since January 2006 or only in the last few weeks. It is best to browse stickied posts that collate a lot of our best posts in each Forum, then there is the massive modelling resource section here and the great Academy resource articles here.

I'm sure there are various poignant moments to many of our members and staff, I hope and encourage them to share them here too!

- Tael.

Thanks for the answer Tael, this has certainly been insightful for me, and I agree with you, I would certainly like to hear of the story from a different angle through different members and staff.

Some of my favorite ATT moments were those that resulted in the development of a signature graphic by DB and O2.

All hail the Ran'Dom Pun'Ter!

Beware the Fish of Furry!

And of course, woe to he who has the misfortune of having the Poor Poor Space Mole Men mentioned in his thread, for once their name is invoked, they become the topic of discussion, and it is forbidden to discuss anything else!

I also remember O-B having an irrational hatred for 2 words ... so much so that we had configured the language filter to replace them with mocking statements to taunt any who slipped in their usage. But for the life of me I can't remember what they were! Anyone?

And I have to mention this post by Doombringer, where he counters assertions that the Tau are Communitst, Fascist, Socialist, or any other common stereotype with what is quite possibly the most detailed discussion of the topic ever. I still reference that post to this day when I read flippant generalizations about the Tau's system of government.

And last but not least, White Knight's Cerebus Unbound and Tael's Upon Broken Plains are my two all time favorite fan fiction pieces.

Ha Ha, that is probably the funniest (and stupidest) thing I have ever read!!! Shame on whoever resurrects them in an other thread! :D

As another new member, I also have found this info a lot of fun and enlightening - thank you. I shall now re-enage my stealth suit and continue to observe... ;)

One of the things as a relative newcomer that's been interesting to watch has been the changes in format, and also the way in which the changes due to the arrival of 5th addition have been handled.

Darn it! And there's us thinking we'd gotten rid of the little tunnel-dwellers. Now we'll have little mounds of earth popping up all over the place.

T0nka, do you realise what you may have unleashed upon us??? :fear:

Don't tell Tael, but one of the molemen got into one of the XV8 hangars... and the security drone... well... yknow.

I've got some 'saals cleaning up the mess, but it's not pretty.

It's cool looking through all the older posts in the Tactica forum, and reading things which are all common knowledge know. It's pretty cool to see how far this site has come in terms of gaming. The site really has lived up to it's name! It'd be cool to have been around when some of the older members were here.

Given the abilities of the new mawloc perhaps the space mole men should have the ability to deep strike(burrow) onto the table and then the ability to reburrow as well. And why is everyone else getting off topic and discussing this history stuff? :P

I'm thinking some PPSMM as Kroot hounds. With their poor eyesight, it makes sense to keep them restricted to CC.

Ahhh, no, stop it, all of you! :D
I will not allow this thread to degenerate into mole man madness!

Tell them to clean up faster! :D

Anyway, in an effort to keep the thread on track, I have tried to look around for a good timeline creator, but I'm not sure that would be the best format, as I do not have many specific dates to base this on. Maybe a fact sheet would work better? What do you guys think?
