Btw anyone know if the new plastic jacks are out yet??? I asked my local hobby schmuck to order a new Defender kit and no word. Privateer's site didn't have them priced either.

As regards to the new books coming out 'fast', its been 7 years or so since the launch of the mark 1 rules, and the mark 2 books are getting a staggered launch, not all at once. So I'm not sure what you mean by so fast or what this is in relation to.

The plastic jacks will be coming out next year. PP always put up upcoming models on their site's front page several months in advance. Most people are used to the GW way of doing things, which is to remain tight lipped until a month beforehand. The plastic jacks are set to come out over possibly February, or even January. This will be a busy pair of months for them indeed.

its worth pointing out too that PP are sending retailers new cards to put into the blisters and boxes when the mark 2 book launches next year. Free too.

giving some serious thought to the Retribution. Is it just me, or would a lot of their stuff work well as eldar?

Well, if you described Eldar as elves in smooth, concaved, shiny armour. You would be correct. That exact sentence can be applied wholesale to Retribution. Personally, It looks dated to me. I'm sick of elves being done the same way, to death. Even Mantic's elves are hackneyed. I understand Elves were conceived long before any wargame, but these games wouldn't claim to be ripping off said lore. So why not actually try something new instead of trying to add to it.

Now, I'm going to be a little mean, but, I'm really sick of seeing stale elf design. I wish they would apply their infamous Warmachine motto to a few more areas :P

Im very excited, as I'M a pure Butcher player, never used any other warcaster. I think the new sculpt captures his anger much better than the others.

Also, it seems Maelstrom recently put started preorders and have release dates for the new stuff. The Mark 2 book and the plastic jacks will be 27th January, as well as the new warcaster sculpts like this one and Irusk.

In other news, I picked up two more of the old rulebooks as Christmas gifts to myself - I'm a fluff/artwork nut, and man if these books aren't the best for that. All I'm missing now is Apotheosis!

Ok out of curiousity but does anyone else see where it's starting to look a little grim for Privateer Press's miniature games Warmachine and Hordes? Hordes hasn't gotten any new minis in ages and Warmachine well is going strong still in some areas but still pushing back their multi part plastic kits and in the while technically pushing back several new Warjacks this way.

Don't get me wrong I still like their games ( currently been stuck learning Monsterpocalypse to demo at a local shop) but the lack of solid support for these two and also pumping out Faction Books to get them more sales seems like ripping GW as well as making us pay more.

So what's everyone elses opinions?

....

I've not done anything with Warmachine recently, but I was under the impression that things were on the up-and-up for Privateer Press. For the first, they've just released a new rules set and are progressively updating each faction (with new models to boot!) - not to mention, introduced a fifth faction last year - and are working on MKII rules for the second. I don't get where this "lack of solid support" is coming from.

The faction rulebooks are a page from GW's playbook, but there was really no other way to update all four factions simultaneously. They'll return to the all-encompassing expansion releases in the future.

So no, I don't get that at all.

Hordes will be coming when they complete Mark II. All the new models and units will come out then and previews before that. I thought the plastic jack kits are out already. I just bought two Khador plastic jacks and I remember seeing Cygnar and Menoth jacks sitting next to it. The new jacks are delayed due to it being manufactured in China. I assume they are having quality issues and not the shipping issue they stated. Anyway, in Mark I, they were unit heavy which made it more like GW. Unlike GW, with Mark II, they have gone to a jack heavy army decreasing the model count rather than increasing it. IMO, I think the units have become more support than the main build of the army which GW pushes to buy more units to have a more feasible army. WM still has more of a Skirmish feel to it with potential of larger games/armies. GW never feels like a skirmish game.

BTW, I just got back into WM last month after a 5 year haitus.

Heh wonder how some shops got the plastic jacks kudos on that one. No price or anything on their site for the Ironclad/Defender/Cyclone kit or the Firefly kit but then no mention on wether it's plastic or not. Also didn't figure they were out as I've tried getting my local hobby guy to order them and he can't as well as annoying Privateer and getting pushed to another question.

As for the sixth army yeah Retribution looks cool. Tbh their jacks remind me of Protoss from Starcraft a little. Have all the books so far except for any faction ones they might've released so far. Mercenaries even got new contracts. Here's hoping maybe they put the price info and such for the new jacks back on their site.

I think they are putting on a solid show right now. Mrk II hordes is in full swing for testing and has some very active forums on the subject. There has been 2 Irish tournaments using the new PP tourney rulespack this year alone, and both are allowing current Mrk II hordes rules as well as the new MrkII warmachine of course. Every week that I go into my FLGS, there are new warmachine minis on the shelf. It's just had a rulebook come out, so this makes sense to be putting out all the new releases for their brand new edition rather than their not yet finalised rules for MrkII hordes. I really don't see any problem with how everything is going right now... except Saxon's latest rules build.... what were they thinking?

Bit late to the discussion here, but yeah, Warmachine is on the Rise, even here in the UK where players used to be few and far between the numbers are rising.

I've just got to hold out for the merc book to see what my lovely new dwarf infantry bits do :)

Yeah, the new troll stuff is pretty cool. Moses, the Bomber troll, and this one was put up the other day, probably will be out in 2 or 3 months.

Ah well, it had to happen. Eigle's fallen off the 40k horse and decided to hitch his wagon to a small Protectorate of Menoth gang. It's the new plastic starter boxed set, and I'm planning on picking it up tomorrow from my new gaming club/supply depot before I sally forth on the 40k battlefield with 3k of my Emperor's Children Chaos Marines.

I've heard a lot of good reports about Warmachine, and within the halls of the new club exist several players who are always ready for new meat - I mean, always ready to help a new player find his feet. It'll probably take me ages to get my backside into gear about making and painting these Menoth guys even if there are only 4 models, since I've such a backlog of unfinished projects. It's become so bad that I'm seriously looking at offloading a shedload of stuff in order to help get through everything.

Anyway, once I get the models made up I will post pictures of them.

E.

Hey E!
Warmachine is a terribly rewarding game, and it's almost silly how easy it is to pick up the basics and throw yourself into it.

I've travel the Khador road myself as I wanted an army that I could play in my "lol, steamroller" style.
My basic set's warcaster doesn't quite support said style so I had to learn how to do things properly first, and NOW I am looking at getting the other warcasters to vary my style ^_^

I think you'll be hooked on it.
Knowledge is power... Use it well.

Hey everyone, I haven't been on in a while due to school but I wanted to pick your brains for a second.

I played a warmachine game today where I assassinated my opponent on the second turn. Out of the 35 points I brought, I needed to use everything except for Ol' Rowdy, Jr and his charger to make it work (and got a lucky roll to seal it). We shook hands and I said good game to which my opponent said that it wasn't good at all but incredibly lame. He mentioned something along the lines of how things like that makes him question wanting to play the game.

In his defense, he is not a bad sport but is also a very good player in WM, 40k and WFB. I think he doesn't like the idea of caster kills as a win condition. Since he plays Khador, it may be he wants a war of attrition (which I'll lose). I feel bad about winning that way but it is also how the game is intended to play. Anyway, I'd like to hear input from you guys.

edit: I usually bring a list which can assassinate since it's near impossible to wreck khadoran jacks but don't think I'm one of those competitive players who tries to go for 2nd turn kills. If it happens, it's much later in the game. Today was sort of an accident.

======
If you are interested in how it played out, I did the following things:
- Stryker took a focus from the Squire
- A gun mage shot the juggernaut to push it back 1" to be near to Zerkova (who was behind cover)
- A lancer advanced
- Stryker arced a boosted earthquake through the lancer and into the juggernaut, knocking both it and Zerkova down
- A defender with Snipe walked up and boosted attack and damage, hit Zerkova and rolled 5 6 6 for damage, doing just enough damage to kill her.

That damage roll was pretty lucky. I had a charger which could have finished the job but I'm not sure if he would end up in range.
You either give up or give hell.
