GAMEPLAY:
So I (Black unpainted shameful Tau Attacker) was against a really fresh tau and 8th player (White Defender), so I felt like I was playing myself some of the game, at least in the beginning.

TURN 1
::Attacker::
Movement
Everything moved up.
FB commanders - Keeping to the Right to eventually take down RT and Longstrike.
MP Commanders - Staying back to launch attacks one at a time (very effective at not wasting shots compared to a team of XV8s)
RT - Creating a barrier/screen of FB Commanders
Shield Drones - Advancing w/out penalty (no weapons to fire) - Noted to always advance these
Gun/Marker Drones - advance up to get in range, stay in 6" DC of CIB commander
CIB XV8 - Flank the Left using Cover to Fly up to top
Rail Finders - Vanguard move then continue to move up for tasty Rail Doubletap
Image
Shooting
Target Priorities:
XV8 - Downed
Marker Drones - Downed
Shield Missile Drones - Downed
Close RT - 4 wounds taken off
Unit thoughts:
Railfinders - great at taking out Multiwound models, did most of the work on XV8s
RT - forgot to overcharge (sad day), but output was pretty pathetic, SMS took out the drones no problem but the Str 6 into T7 was pretty brutal trying to get 5+, even with the -2 to save the enemy RT only took 1 wound from 1, the other was out of LoS
Gun Drones - not very effective against suits either, need AP weapons to deal with 3+ saves
Missile Commanders - Took off 3 wounds from RT and 1 XV8

::Defender::
Movement
RT - overcharged and move up for FB range
Razorshark - Moved up
Longstrike - moved for LoS
Stormsurge - moved up (did not deploy anchors (ever))

Shooting
Targets Removed:
3 Gun Drones
3 Marker Drones
3 Shield Drones (Took Ion shots for Riptides)
3 Pathfinders
Unit Thoughts:
I think if he had thinned out the shield drones before targeting the Riptides he would have done better.
Poor rolls also did not help.
RT - Heavy D6 for ion is very disappointing, both rolled 2 shots
SS - Used Reroll strat on Cluster rockets to go from 10 shots to 12

Assault
1 RT charged into Drones, nothing happened

TURN 2
::Attacker:
Movement
Gun Drones - fly out of combat
RT - overcharge
1 FB Commander stays still and casts Kauyon giving Rerolls to 2 RT, himself, and Pathfinders
XV8 advance 11" to top of Cliffs
Railfinders move to better location

Shooting
Target Priorities:
Razorshark - Downed
RT 1 - 1 wound left
RT 2 - 2 wound left
4 Gun Drones - Downed
Unit thoughts:
RT - mixed feeling about, Did really well against flyer, but only hitting on 5s rerolling missed there were still a lot of misses. I would have rather used a 5ML with the +1 BS than the Kauyon I think.
Strength 6 weapons into T7 - again this was an issue, wounding of 5+ even with a decent AP is just too difficult.

Image
Assault
Drones - did nothing, 5s and 5s is very difficult with 1 attack a piece. 1 Shield drone did manage to wound the RT but was promptly saved.
Commanders - did nothing, 3s then 5s is still difficult on the RT when it has a 2+ save.

::Defender::
Movement
RT 1 and 2 moved back their 4" (brutal)
SS moved up

Shooting
Targets removed:
Shield drones - Downed
Marker Drones - Downed
Pathfinders - 2 RR/ui left in 1 squad, 1 ui left in 2nd squad
Unit Thoughts:
Used the Cluster rockets and SMS to take out remain drones before firing at Riptides.
Bad rolls for few shots could still not help him.
Longstrike did manage to hit the mark but only caused 3 wounds
Very happy he wanted to take out the RT and not my XV8s

Assault
Gun drones ran into help the Shield missile drones out - nothing happened

TURN 3
::Attacker:
Movement
Everyone moved up
RT overcharge
CIB advanced to get in range for DC to gun drones
1 Fusion Commander got in Melta Range for Longstrike

Shooting
Fusion Commander managed to take 8 wounds off longstrike
Longstrike finished off by 2nd Fusion Commander
RT managed to (barely) take out last 3 wounds between the 2 RT.
Gun drones took out enemy gun drones
CIB commander took out Shield missile Drones
Rest of fire concentrated on Stormsurge:
-XV8s, 3 MP commanders taking out 11 wounds (surprised it only have T7 and 3+ save) Doing 11 Wounds

Game Called, Victory to Attacker

Hm looks like you made some very questionable choices during the game. Like staying in melee with your Drones and like focussing so much shooting on the opponents Riptides when there's a Stormsurge and Longstrike to shoot at.

Stormsurge: Too far away, my max range was 36" and I didn't want to get my MP commanders too close
Longstirke: more worried about Iontides having D6 shots a piece on nova charge when I could easily allocate the single Railgun shot to a shield drone.

And melee drones where more of a test to see how they faired, I got them out of CC as soon as I could.

Really? The Stormsurge was out of range for 3 whole turns even for your Riptides? Kinda hard to believe.
I see your point about Longstrike though. As long as you have enough Drones to soak up Railgun shots he is pretty ignorable.
