I picked up one of the Ghostkeels this weekend. I decided to try out making it look a tad more like the XV-25's. I'm hoping it will make them look more like one big happy family when I field the Optimized Stealth Cadre.
I actually wish that the Riptide had been more like this model, stat-wise and size-wise. I would have been much more receptive of a model of this size.

I was quite pleased with the kit. GW models are top notch, no denying that. There was also lots of room for different modeling choices. I am just a conversion addict.
I am particularly pleased with GW's jetpack for this model. I like it a lot, almost as much as I like the thruster pack on the Y'vahra ;)

The primer and the lighting make it difficult to see the shape, but I'm still working on it.

It has been quite some time since I've posted here. To be honest, I have been making headway, but I switched phones late last year and the new one's camera is quite bad. Even so, I need to throw up some new pics to show some progress, so please forgive the blurry pictures! I've been working pretty regularly the last week for 30 min or so every night to get some stuff assembled for an upcoming tournament this weekend.

Here are some pictures of my Tetra counts-as. I bought the piranha chassis a while back with the intention of converting them into tetras, but didn't get around to it until now. They didn't turn out all that great since the spines don't match in width, but oh well. They are a relatively minor part of the army so hopefully people won't look too close at them.

The jets are bits from the razorshark drones, the markerlight is from the Skyray turret and sits on a shield generator. Otherwise, it is pretty straightforward. And yes, I am well aware they are supposed to be 'open-topped' but I decided that it would be a much bigger project to turn them into open cockpits. Instead, I'll just have to remember and treat them like super light vehicles with even less armour than normal.

My current big project: Stormsurge.

Image
Some of Kael'yn's Stormsurge Arms. This is WSF plastic of the finished models. I would definitely recommend keeping to the higher quality printing options. I don't mind the extra smoothing work, but you do lose out on some of the finer details that can't be fixed with extra work, which is a shame.

running the wires through the entirety of both legs took quite some time, but I think it will be worth it in the end.
Image
Covered the crew compartment with plascard. Will likely cover this with gribblies and whatnot to fill the space.
Image
Instead of scratchbuilding the missile mounts to look like an XV88-2 I went with some bits I already had on hand. This has the added bonus of it continuing to look like it is drawing design cues from the Skyray/Hammerhead. I've also embedded the Destroyer missiles in the torso where the engine intakes used to be. Imitating the Striker Eureka a little bit.
Image
Quick shot of it all together. The turret will be magnetized, of course.

Next up is the primary weapon, which I will be magnetizing and adjusting to mount on the 3D printed arm. I have grand plans for the shield generator, but that will not be done in time for the tournament. Instead I'm just getting the core model assembled before I move on to the Riptide which will be converted based on Agentarrow's contest winner.

Stay tuned later in the week for more progress. I'll be posting up how my list does at the tourney as well. I decided that I want to win, so I am running the cheesiest list I can cobble together:
Fusionblades Commander w/ marker drone squadron
    2 Heatwave-D monats
    2 tetras
    Y'vahra
    Stormsurge
    Riptide Wing (min size)
    Culexus Assassin

Thanks for reading! Again, apologies for the blurry photos.

Das'kyman, you work inspired me to start converting tau models from the beginning, I loved your onager gauntlet, and the rail gunner, and the drone and the fusion blade! All of your work convinced me that if you can make the tau look even better than so could I. I had never converted before because all I had was ultramarines, they're kind of boring compared to the tau (model wise). I just wanted to say thank you and keep up the good work!!!

Wow. Thank you for the kind words.
I am honored that you feel that way because that was literally my own situation when I came to Tau. I had played Ultramarines in the past, wanted a new faction, researched a bit and found the amazing conversions on ATT.

Proud to inspire :::(

I hope to put up some of my latest work soon. I've been away for awhile with a new job, young kids, 7th edition burnout, and I switched phones and had no decent camera. But 8th edition has me excited so I'm going to steal my wife's iphone and get some decent pictures to share.

I am going to make a big picture dump of progress I've made since I last checked in. I'll start with the WIP, and first up is the Stormsurge:

Now, the Riptide I'm working on that used AgentArrow's conversion kit he did for the ATT modeling contest when the Riptide came out:

My ghostkeel, featuring a cockpit that wishes it looked like an XV25:

And last, I've made a change to the weapons on my Vespid counts-as. I'm giving them straight pulse blasters. I'm not likely to ever use Breachers, so I feel OK using it as a representation of the neutron blaster.

Now, a few finished pieces:

Shadowsun:

Ethereal (upgraded with a jetpack to emulate the old artwork of the ethereal descending to treat with the Kroot):

My commander O'Sha'is'Nen:

Phew. Glad to get those off my chest. I'm eager to get some more progress on my Vespid counts-as. There is FINALLY a reason to field them now!

(wow, as I'm looking at these I definitely need to start taking my pictures from farther away. My wife's iPhone is really bringing out the amateur painting up close...Sorry for that)

That Stormsurge is wicked -- I love how it's reminiscent of a scaled-up Riptide. Same with the similarity of your Ghostkeel conversion and the XV25 stealth battlesuits.
