Hey Da Skyman

Looking forward to seeing the board as it comes together!

I just went over your log and I've gotta say ... everything is Awsome! I love the railgun wielding 'Hazards', that is a sick look. And while I'm not the biggest fan of green color-schemes, you pull it off very well. To top everything it off you made a 'Tigershark' out of cardboard ... dude, your my hero! I can't even comment further ... my brain's gonna 'splode!

Oh yeah, one last thing. I really like the "Ethereal babe" very well executed. The colors are well done and I love the gem effect that you seem to be able to consistently execute. :nice:

Thank you for the kind words Null. The Ethereal is one of my favorite conversion so far. Odd, since she required so little actual converting. I need to run her in a game one of these days. Here are some better shots of her.

The cloak could do with some more blending, but I doubt I'll mess with it at this point.

And the progress so far on his Warscaper Drone

I would like to try the Defibrillator Node + Warscaper Drone combo in my 2000 point game. Has anyone given this a try? They look like they'll mesh well but I'm not sure how well. My list is in a constant state of flux as I read through the FSE supplement and think of what looks fun.
I also just found out that our Grey Knights player just bought a Storm Raven, so I'm going to have to figure out a way to deal with that. I might be able to cobble together another couple XV99's, that could be fun, even if they are static.

CC welcome and encouraged.

EDIT: Just finished assembling my second XV99 last night. I've put the SMS and the Plasma rifles on both of them. I figure it looks cool and they can only shoot two weapons at a time anyways. I didn't want to bother with the magnets on these guys, since their options are so limited to begin with.

Image

Still considering how I want to approach the Sniperboss. He sounds like fun but I need to make him look suitably "sniperish". The underslung HRR just don't look accurate enough so it will probably be more like an actual rifle. I have plenty of time before I have to field him though, so I'm not too worried about it.

Update!

I had a pretty productive week and weekend. I submitted an offer and counter offer on a house (which was accepted!) and cobbled together another Broadside plus three more regular sized battlesuits!

First up: the Broadside Shas'vre with railgun, plasma, and ATS. I am very excited to try out the "SniperBoss" in-game. He is a bit smaller than the XV-99's but he'll do.
Image
Image

Next: I repurposed my recent "Brightsword" conversion as a regular XV8, and you'll see why farther down. I also cobbled together two other regular suits to round out my third full squad of crisis suits.
Image
Oops, focused on the Fusion Commander sneaking up on him from behind!
Image
This is the only suit in my army that has the full sized XV8 hips. Everything else uses either XV9 hips or converted ones
Image
Scraped the bottom of my bits boxes/bags to pull this one together.

Last: my new "Brightsword"/Fusion Blades Commander. I wanted a more dynamic pose and this guy did not disappoint me! I'll take more pics after I've basecoated everything. But here is a blurry teaser that I snapped this morning.
Image

But wait, there's more! I have a plan for my last two suits. They are going to be stripped down XV8's (by necessity, since I'm pretty much out of bits) and each will carry a single Fusion Cascade which will count as a twin-linked fusion blaster.
I planned on having a couple suicide Sunforges in my army, so I'm excited to have models specific to the role.

The army is really taking on a "custom" appearance, which lines up nicely with the EC fluff and my plans to start running Farsight Enclaves more regularly. Only a couple of my crisis suits actually match each other, which I love!

BTW, I have been having massive success with the XV8 list in Maelstrom missions. At 500 points, with only 2 crisis teams and a stealth team, I won two games and pulled off an unbelievable tie in the third. My opponents were Grey Knights, Imperial Guard, and Space Wolves.
Once the transports go down, it is incredibly easy to just outmaneuver the enemy and zip around claiming objectives willy nilly.

Thanks Vash! I threw a quick base coat on the Fireblade commander after I finished up his magnets and the Cyclic Ion Blaster.

This is one of my favorite models so far. It has a lot of character and the pose turned out very well. Dynamic Entry! I cannot wait to put this on the table at the next gameday and play with it. I think my biggest problem will be refraining from intentionally getting him into combat...

The model used for the Ethereal is: Reaper - Dark Heaven Legends: Alastriel, Elf Sorceress 02967

I grabbed one after seeing your inspiration!

I love the Firewing concept! I'm actually planning on a similar conversion adding some mech-style angel wings to 4 fire warriors and making some modifications to make them appear to have heavier armor. I figure I'll run them with Stealth suit rules much like yours takes on the vespid rules. It's a cool idea! Glad I'm not alone in it! :)

Thanks Arttes. I really wanted to finish them, but when the new codex didn't really help them out any, I just lost the drive to complete them. I usually have several projects going on at once, and RL stuff puts extreme limits on my hobby time.

However, I do have a bit of progress:

I have replicated my Remora Counts-As. I made a slight error with the burst cannons and they are now set a tiny bit farther under the wing. I may just leave them, since hardly anyone will notice. What do you think, better?
Image
Image
Image

Modeling progress is further hampered by my hobby room, or lack thereof. A little while ago the cement ceiling started to collapse, crushing my models! Poor crisis suits. Lots of pinning and repairing had to be done :::( I also had to move all my modeling stuff out of the room to keep them safe.
Image
So, why not add another project? I'm in the middle of ripping the entire ceiling down and carting out the rubbage.
Image

I have begun to experiment with using Stronghold Assault fortifications in my lists. The obvious choices are Aegis, Bunker, and Vengeance Weapon Battery.
I've begun work on the Aegis, but I am still accumulating the necessary drone components and the shielding effects to go on the flying bases. I'll need to come up with a Tau version of the Comms Relay as well. How hard can that be? :P
I intend to find some way to replicate the Tau bunker GW made some time ago, but that is in the early stages and I'm still waiting for some inspiration to hit. The VWB is actually partially underway:
Image
Still in the early stages, but the base worked out perfect. I intend to fashion it like an oversized Sentry Drone Turret that carries an Ion Cannon. The overcharged Ion Cannon is pretty close to a Battle Cannon so it was the natural choice. More pics as I progress with that, but tbh holidays and the Aegis will take priority.

Tau'va!

Wow. It has been a while. My hobby space is pretty much no closer to being finished, so lately I've been commandeering table space elsewhere. Going is slow as my family has been fighting off various illnesses for the past two months, and RL problems keep getting in the way of hobby time.
Our FLGS has a mega-battle/apocalypse game coming up this weekend and I had hoped to use my newest addition to the Bork'an 4th. Unfortunately I will not be able to make the event, but I almost completed the model anyways.

Behold! Almost there. Still need to do the right fist and some scribing, gribbling, etc. but it is close...
Image
Image
Image

Like I did with my R'varna, I scratchbuilt the forearms in order to under sling the magnetized weapons. Now, both my R'varna and Y'vahra can have their weapons switched out for regular Riptide weapons and be run as such. Maybe Tau will get some new FW toys that aren't experimental rules. It annoys me that people won't play against "experimental" rules even though they are (according to FW) just as official as the other rules released for things like the character Knights or Shadow Spectres. Anyways...

I completed painting my Sniperside which I have been using in our group's Kill Team campaign
(the first pic is actually pre-cleanup)
Image
Image

Some progress on my Shas'vre for the Kill Team as well.
Image

I am also partway through completion on my Culexus counts-as. I used him in a few games and I absolutely loved how he played. And I only ever play psykers rarely.
Image
Image

Fortifications are on hold for now, unfortunately. The Y'vahra and Kill Team took precedence. Plus I'm finding myself in need of more fusion blaster suits than fortifications, since Imperial Knights, Stompas, Tesseract Vaults and the like are all starting to appear.

I quite like what you did with that broadside down there. Defenitely brings back the title of "Sniperside" to the table ^^
Cant quite understand the choice you did with the XV109 arms. It looks a bit strange to me, as due to the prolonged size of the hands, the the elbow joint/hinge/piston seems a bit flimsy this way, and kinda unable to support the weight of the weapons it carries.

Anyway keep up the good work ;)

Your r'varna is truly inspirational.. The models you've created are amazing, but the r'varna just shines through as a result of tender love and Care. Amazing job :)

I've been making hardly any progress at all for my army as a whole. Summer, RL issues, and dabbling in Warmahordes has slowed me waaaay down. Even so, here is some progress: it is my Kill Team (so far) for a campaign I am participating in. We are using the Herald of Ruin kill team rules.

Image
Bork'an 4th Special Missions Team "Sundown"
Image
mission team leader Vre'Tak'Hui "Mystery"
Image
Ui'Soo'is "Dancer"
Image
Ui'E'ka "Quickstrike" (Vespid Stingwing)
Image
Night Jackal Gang Members (Kroot) led by Vlamada "Knifehand"
Image
Vre'J'Mont'ka "Hammerfist" and the team's Shield Generator
Image
Fire Warriors from the 'Warhounds' and 'Sly Rodents' fire teams

I've listed the campaign on the HoR forums HERE if you are interested. The team's fluff is as follows:

Bork’an 4th EC special missions team “Sundown”
Command has been given to mission commander Shas’El Bork’an Tak’Hui “Mystery”. The mission is to pave the way for the eminent Tau expansion into the region. “Sundown” is part of a socio-economic experiment of preparing systems for the Greater Good. El’Tak’ui has hired marksmen, combat specialists, and whatever other resources he can get from the local gang to supplement his own team of Shas volunteers. This gang was particularly well established, influential, and located near a nondescript landing platform, hence the choice of platform 12 as the team’s base of operations.
Operation Headquarters: Cargo Manta located on ancillary landing platform 12. Paid off platform operators to list the platform as “under repair” and shut it down for the duration of their mission.
Primary Objective: attacking key features of Hive infrastructure (assassinating/protecting key political figures, destroying resource caches, cutting major power sources, tipping scales in favor of inflammatory gangs, etc.) Teams have been dispatched to two other inter-atmosphere hubs as well. When social and government collapse is eminent, Water Caste delegates will arrive to offer the Greater Good as an alternative to anarchic self destruction.
Secondary Objective: the acquisition and analysis of the rare and unique items that accumulate in Port Malad.

Currently we aren't very far in the campaign (only a few games) but the Tau are doing well. Well enough that the next time I have enough time to play some Kill Team games, I'll be searching for some Legendary weapons!

Edit: just picked up a Riptide, finecast Farsight, and the battle force (all magnetized) for $60! guess I have more work to do...

Warmahordes is deadly lol. I really want to get into it because all of the miniatures look so pretty ughhhh :(

Onto your Cadre. I really love the colour scheme. Something about the whites and greys that make the greens pop. Great work!

I am making some more progress on my Y'vahra. I got him up to 3 color standard for a tournament, so now I am going back to clean him up, add the details, highlight, and finish the base. All in all, I figure I am about 2/3 done.
This will be my first time attempting to paint flames on a model, I'll be sure to post pictures of the finished base.
Image
Image
Image
Side note: he is magnetized to allow switching between Y'vahra and Riptide. Subsequently, he is capable of carrying my R'varna's double pulse submunitions cannon. It is a sight to see...

I was able to get some more work done recently. The Y'vahra is pretty much done, though I can't say I am entirely satisfied with his base. Perhaps I was too ambitious attempting blue flames...
Image
Image
Image

So my next project is finishing up my Farsight Enclaves commander. Similarly, he is up to 3-color standard but he needs some detailing.
Also, I am finally getting around to modeling the fusion blade(s) to complete the dynamic pose. I also plan on making an oversized shield generator, like Farsight's but with different heraldry. That will be a fun library project.
Image
Image

Last week I made a monumental effort to get all the rubble cleared out of my 'office.' Baby #3 is on the way so I figure I have only a few short months to get my office in order before all hope is lost. My hobby room will be realized, no matter the cost!

And, just for fun...

Some incremental progress on my FSE commander: The Fusion Blades and Talisman of Arthos Moloch.

I am going for a flaming spiral-ish look. I might have aimed too high, but if I don't like it I can take it off and try again. They aren't attached yet. I'll probably leave them detached for transport anyways.
Image
Adding the liquid gol- I mean greenstuff.
Image

Here is the progression of the Talisman. I was going for an artifact or stone that is found and integrated into Tau tech to amplify the effects. Obviously intended to be similar to a shield generator that I can mount on his off-hand.
Image
Image
Image

Minor tidbit: there were some blank armour plates on my commander's torso, so I drilled some shallow holes nd popped in some tiny green stuff balls. Emulating the various round bits on the Riptide and other suits. Since the model is bent forward hardly anyone will notice, but I was pretty proud of the simple solution. Otherwise I would have resorted to paneling, and that can get old after a while.

A quick update. First off, I have cleared just about all the rubbage out of my hobby space and moved all my hobby stuff back in! So so so much dust and dirt to sweep/vacuum out, but it is done.
Image

And I have reached a point where I am pretty much done with my Fusion Blades Commander, complete with Fusion Blade and Talisman of Arthas Moloch.
Image
Image

For anyone that cares, the sash is supposed to read "Bork'an J'Shas'ka" which is his name: "Fist of Fire". He is a recent promotion to 'El under O'Sha'is'Nen. He was previously the team leader for the "Fury" rotation (see first post) and is the twin brother of Vre'J'Kles'Snae (Bomb of Compassion), the team leader for the "Hammerfall" rotation. He is a complete pyro, hence the name, is of a large build, and has a laid-back personality. He favors up-close weapons of fire and fusion due to his witnessing firsthand their cleansing effects against the Y'he invasion of Bork'an.

Next up is my Shadowsun. I picked her up painted for cheap. The paint job isn't bad so I mostly just needed to add some Green for my colors, new jetpack, and some detailing.
