The amount of detail on the new 'Cuda kit is almost overwhelming. I like the inclusion of transfers on the underside - I may have to do that myself.
I look forward to your other one ;)

They are very highly detailed and great models to build. I used an alternative method to magnetise the turret weapons, rather than magnetising the 2 halves together I have magnetised the weapon pivot points... Just a personal thing but it has the advantage of less loose parts to be able to lose.

So do I :)
I am suffering from 'Cuda overload at the moment but will be giving it a go soon... along with the 3 Sun/Razorsharks in the queue.

Thanks. Should be all done by next weekend so keep an eye out for updates then :)

Shas'O Darklighter wrote:Very nice indeed you are getting quite the air cavalry going on there.... Also do you put that engine glow in all your models vent ports? Those last few pictures show up so much more detail than I've noticed you putting into your models before! I think I'm going have to go back over your blog and stare for a bit, I look forward to more updates. :D

The engine glow is standard on all my Tau exhausts (Suits/Vehicles/Flyers) it is just that the new light box really helps to bring them out :)

New photos of the whole collection coming soon but here is a teaser ;)

Somehow I missed that you acquired supremacy armor. How is that model to build? I'm thinking about grabbing one over the summer, assuming that my hobby backlog is manageable at the time.

It is a very satisfying build. Just a whole different size of beast.

Go for it...

I am tempted to get another one ;)

Next on the work bench will be either a bucket full of old style XV8s or the Shield wall - both are part painted but I have too many other shiny toys too :)

I have one week of painting left until my Xmas break so I am setting myself the target to complete the Tau bunker which I have been working on over the last few years - a bit of a clearout of the painting queue is needed :)

Was this a scratchbuild or something from a supplier? Looks great.

This will answer your question :)
[Review] Hive City Terrain Futuristic Empire Bunker Scenery

Finally, after many false starts and delays, the Tau have received their first bunker.

This was originally purchased in late 2013 from http://hivecityterrain.co.uk/ and has had some detailing added internally from my bits box.

I just have far too many projects on the go at the same time...

Just realised how long since I have worked on anything Tau :(

The cure: I have just started to assemble my first KV128 Stormsurge and have bought the conversion kit to add arms and shoulder mounts for the missile pods to give it a little old style XV88 railside vibe.

The Pulse Driver Cannon and Pulse Blastcannon will be magnetised so as to swap between them plus the secondary weapons will also be magnetised.

It will have the standard leg position as this is my first but if I decide to get 2 more then I will have a play with the poses.

I should be at a stage to post some photos at the weekend. Planning on 3-4 weeks to completion

Work has been progressing at a satisfactory speed and the individual assemblies are now being primed so detailing will begin next week.

For now here are some teaser photos

These are the body with the crew compartment fitted along with the mounts for the missile containers.

Hello !

Nice to see my 3D printed parts in the building process rather than a finished model. Can I link this post to my item pages (project log model review and 3D printed resources) here on ATT ?

As I see some yellow filler on it, do the parts needed some adjustments or improvements ?

I am waiting to see how you will manage to magnetise the rear bits of the main gun. I am still struggling on how to magnetize them properly to have both options available.

You are welcome to link away :)

The filling was fairly minor except for the right hand missile stanchion. At the top is a flattened triangular tab which slots into the recess in the shoulder of the Stormsurge. For me, the tab did not completely fit into the corresponding recess. Whether that was my error or the fault of the design - I am not sure but it did not take much to fill it.

My only "complaint" is that the plastic on the forearms is quite thin which does not lend itself well to fitting magnets. I realise that this is to keep weight and costs down and not everyone is as magnet addicted as I am. ;)

I am blending both versions of the rear of the main gun into one, fits all, version. I had a look and it is possible with magnets but it would have been very intensive and in the end I decided it was not worth the effort.

Thanks for your inputs.

The dorsal missile support trapezoidal tab was initially 1 mm misaligned on my prototype, and I tweaked it a little, but without reprinting the model (because it was a part that can be sanded if the fitting wasn't perfect anyway). So this is a minor tweak to add to my to-do list.

Magnets holes can be drilled in the model, but the thinness can be a problem. You can add some plasticard/milliput/
greenstuff into the gauntlet (it can be tricky to access) if you need a more thick support. My weapon have two 3x1mm magnets in drilled holes, super-glued on their side and the assembly seems strong. Adding inner cylinders to the gauntlets to fit 3mm magnets when holes are drilled can solve this issue. Added to to-do list too.

Since Shapeways prices are mostly volume based, using a 1mm thickness instead of 0.5mm almost doubles up the price. Stuffing the final models (after cleaning) with green-stuff, milliput, resin or maybe plaster, is a cheaper way to make them stronger if needed.

By Aun that's beastily already and not even assembled fully. The odd angle photos really show off and often unseen part of the model kit too :)

Cheers guys :)

One week into the WIP completed and I have had to quickly tack it together as is because it will be appearing in a 3000pts/person Apoc. game tomorrow.

The main gun magnetisation has worked well along with the magnetised close in secondary weapons fit on the gun arm. The missile pods will need magnetising along with the waist at some point as the beast does not easily fit into any carry case I currently have.

Still about 2 weeks of detailing/weathering/decals and the base to do so you will have to be patient for the final photos :)

This is one of the best model with my parts I saw so far.
Can't wait to see it finished.
