Re: [Project Log] Andre's Cadre WIP : New Codex=New Success

Another successful day of painting today. This time made some nice progress on my Riptide and 2 shielded missile drones.

You'll notice the drones are larger than the ones that come in the box, since they are toughness 6 I wanted them to be bigger so I used the forgeworld heavy gundrones and added missile pods.

For the Riptide I wanted to model something unique to represent the velocity tracker, so I decided to use the wings from a remora kit. I like the idea of the Riptide being airborne when using skyfire to bring down flyers.

I can't wait to finish this model, but don't want to rush it.

Really like the modelling done here Shas'o Dre. The custom fireblade turned out perfect. Like the pose and the seriousness she channels. well done. Also the darksiders look superb. The theme you have chosen is also interesting!

I am looking forward to seeing how the Riptide turns out, with it's unique velocity tracker and the beefed up leg armour. :) Looking very good so far!

Thanks Xaulk she is one of my favorite conversions. It might be hard to tell but I used the new pulse carbine from the Broadside kit, it is a little larger with sharper angles than the pathfinder or fire warrior versions and it fit perfect with the chopped pulse rifle.

The theme was chosen from the Farsight colors, but I wanted to play with different shades of red. Most of the "vet" units will be the dark red, while some of the new "recruits" will be a brighter red like the crisis team with missile pods and plasma pictured above. Since they haven't been in as many battles I wanted a newer look to their gear.

Not a lot of progress this week in the painting department for me, but did start to write a narrative campaign that i will be running in my store. It took some research and imagination and I hope the players will get into it and appreciate the effort.

As for the painting, added some details to the riptide and I started a vespid test model and finished most of it. I really liked hawk turquoise that I had used originally for the kroot quills, so I decided to try it on the vespid and it came out great. I ended up using Hawk turquoise and temple guard blue. I never realised how small the vespid eyes on the helmets are, don't know how I am going to paint those with anything put a dot of colour.

I am hopping to get the squad of vespid and kroot done for the start of the campaign in February. I figure if I use some units that are considered not so great I can lead by example and other players will follow, so we can have a fun and not so serious/competitive event.

Man I do have to say. I LOVE the look of that devilfish conversion for the pathfinders. The back mounting of the SMS, looks very militaristic and fits a unique vehicle like a recon forces APC.

Been far too long since my last post, and have made some progress on the army as a whole, but not in the direction I had planned. So I am still taking my time on the Riptide, I built a base for it and while it turned out okay, it wasn't what I wanted for the flying effect so I used it for my second Riptide instead. My plan on finishing the vespid didn't get past the starting steps where I was able to get 3 colours on them and get them ready for the campaign currently happening at my store.

The campaign has really taken up a lot of my time in a good way. I have been writing the narrative organising games and trying to recruit more and more players to it. Right now we just started the third week and it is going well. If you want to check it out here is a link to the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/hw40k

The campaign has made me change focus and I have been building more reinforcements for my Farsight Enclaves to try new unit combinations. I dug up some of my old crisis suits from when I first started, and repaired them and but some parts to create a dual plasma team. Finally got around to building my Farsight Ethereal, I had been using a cadre fireblade in a devilfish with carbine firewarriors but I think the ethereal will work better. And last but not least I started building another broadside so I could run 2 teams of two with missile drones. On the painting side not much done, but did get to basecoat and airbrush some broadsides and farsight.

Image

notice the classic farsight arm with the sword removed, in red in the picture above.

I really like the small custom drones. I had the idea for using smaller drones since he would be mounted in a devilfish with 10 firewarriors that a smaller gun drone would fit better. One counts as gun drone and one counts as shield drone. Really easy to make too.

So that's what I have been up to. Feel free to comment or ask questions, always appreciated and always welcome.

I am loving this conversion. Completely changes the static feel of the new Broadsides into a more dynamic state. I might have to make my own based on your designs.

Re: [Project Log] Andre's Cadre WIP : UPDATED Cadre Fireblade

Nothing like a summer campaign to get the creative juices flowing and make me convert a new character. Enter ShadowStrike! Special Character Cadre Fireblade of the Farsight Enclaves.

Here's his fluff and wargear followed by a ton of pictures! And I do mean a ton!

Original sent by Aunva and the etheral council to infiltrate and spy on the Farsight Enclaves, Shadowstrike was easily rooted out by the Eight. With his mission compromised he had to gain Farsight's trust or return to the Empire a failure.

Requesting only the most dangerous assaignments from Farsight himself, Shadowstrike proved his worth over and over. Whether alone on assaignment or leading a squad of Firewarriors, he never faltered or failed. Finally Farsight confronted him and question his ambitions. In the face of the greatest living warrior of T'au Shadowstrike did not blink as he remained fiercly loyal to the Empire.

O'shovah smiled as he saw the fire and spirit within Shadowstrike. Gesturing for him to follow Farsight lead him to his pesonal maintenance bay where the Dawnblade was stored with his Crisissuit. Holding the Dawnblade Farsight ordered him to kneel. Sensing no malice from the legendary warrior Shadowstrike did as commanded.

"Touch the blade and see what I fight for. See what is coming to the galaxy. Touch the blade and receive a glimpse of farsight. When you have seen what we all have seen you will give yourself to the enclaves, and earn your place by my side. You you be tested as I was, by the green menace, and on Alaric Prime you will be reborn. I have foreseen this and now you shall too."

Closing his eyes Shadowstrike slowly reached to touch the blade...

Warlord Trait: Target Priority
Wargear:
Pulse Rifle and Carbine
Shield Generator
EMP Grenade
Photon Grenade
Warsrapper Drone (shield drone)
Pulse Accelerator Drone

A couple of friends helped me out with the lenses and gauntlet screens, and there is still a lot to do but I like the progress so far. I have to have him finished by this Sunday so I've got to motor. As you can see I've used many different bits, I really wanted him to look ready for anything and used characters like Cable and Deadpool for inspiration. It does give the over the top look but that's what I was going for. The base of the model was the finecast Shadowsun which I used hot water to reposition the legs. The arms came from the scion box, and the rest were random bits from various Tau kits. The backpack was from an old mini game called heavy gear I think, but I don't know what the part was for, I just know it made a good backpack. The helmet lens and various grenades and shells came from the space marine scouts with snipers box. I am keeping the paint simple: primed grey, black wash and then details. With the amount of bitz on him I think it will make him stand out. Can't wait to start building his drones, I already have some ideas in mind. Had a blast building this guy, hope you like him as well. Comments always welcome.

You can't do that.

It's not allowed.

You can't just build an awesome conversion like that with parts from minis that you a) don't know the name of; and b) are out of print. How are we supposed to copy the awesomeness if you do things like that!

I'm filing a formal complaint.

Seriously, that's an amazing conversion. When you say you looked to Cable and Deadpool for inspiration, I can see it in his pose and posture. I am unabashedly envious of your talent. I just wish I could pick up a ShadowStrike mini at my FLGS.

That is a lovely conversion you got there! Had something similar in mind, but not with the same weapon of choice or gear.
With that said, I have intended to use him as something else. But you have made a special character out of him, and that it really nice.

I absolutely love the conversion. As I was scrolling through the progress pictures I couldn't help but chuckle and think "oh, this is going to be good." My only issue is with the pose, specifically the feet. The model looks really chunky and heavy, but his feet are barely touching the ground. When i see that suit I can practically hear the stomping, but he looks like he's just floating there. It's probably too late in the process to change it, so it's not a huge deal. Great job!

Thanks for the kind words, that last part is one of the best compliments a conversion can get!

As for the out of print game, it was not called heavy gear, but jovian chronicles. The piece is the torso of the robot, I'll see if I csn find another and take a picture. Aside from that all the bitz are from GW kits so you could replicate if you like. I 'm sure you can come up with a cool backpack.

Again, thanks for looking and the compliment.

Thanks Rifflestein, I wanted to show a little of the progress as build up. I know what you mean about the feet, I was hoping the base would cover that, but oh well. Next time i will have to bend the ankles a little more.

And thanks too Vash!

It took a while to get here, but I finally had time to start on conversions on Farsight and the Eight.

I started with Bravestorm. He needed to be big. I wanted the onagar gauntlet to be huge. The iridium armour is represented by the broadside. The shield generator is stolen from the guard. I got inspired by Iron Man so his stimulant injector is like his arc reactor.
Since his hands were full, i created custom drones to be his weapons.

Next up was the man himself, Farsight. This one was really fun. Everything came together really well.

I love your Farsight conversions. One of the better looking cobbled suits I've seen. I do however hope for the greater good you remove that atrocious Imperial Eagle on the front of Bravestorm's Shield. Battle damage? Either way they look great, keep em coming.

Broadside legs ... I made the exact same conversion and thought that he did look a bit skinny in the lower regions.
Welp, I'm going to lock this topic before I throw out my entire army and start over.

Just kidding, this thread is amazing. :D
Keep up the good work!
