Wonderful clean paint job there! Looks striking from a distance (not least because of the colour!), and there's still plenty to see on closer inspection. I do like the pose on that XV8 too. Simple conversion, but very effective. I like very much. :)

I'm with ya. Once that google image search took me to Tael's page, I knew I was in the right place.

Yeah, I really love how these look on the battlefield. Even in a bad cell phone pic, they pop really well. Takes cojones to wear orange in to battle! Bring it on, 'nids!

Finally took some pics of my fire warriors. This was my first unit ever. Like the scheme, but room for improvement on the technique!

Hi res versions on the link in my sig.

Falling behind on my Tau. Need to get something new started. Hmm. what to do next? More Pathfinders or Broadsides?

The pics don't really do the models justice. I've seen that XV8 commander up close and he looks awesome. (doesn't usually come into battle until it's too late, and can't actually hit anything when he does come in, but still, he looks great doing it.) * ahem *

You know, one guy i really like is that guy who is lying down, like the old metal rail rifle pathfinder model. I think he looks really nice, and I think that would be a fun conversion to do- could you post a close-up on that guy? I'd really like to get a better view on that. Also your painting overall is really well done, and as orange is my favourite colour, i am just in love with this army. Good job and keep up the good work!!

Hey Vorkah,
I don't have access to my photos at the moment, and my models are packed up due to a move. There is one close up of that model on my blog (check the sig). I'll try to grab a few better pics of it for you soon. I have mixed feelings on that model. I like the look, and it was a pretty easy conversion, but he makes it tough to pack models close together. The board I usually play on has a lot of raised platforms and pathways. What is a Tau to do? Not like I'm going to stand on the ground like a sucker.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. Need to unpack and get back to it!

Here's a couple close-ups on that prone FW. I've been playing with him for a year and never noticed until now that I never painted his top knot!

Don't know that I'd even call this a conversion. Just gluing his arms and head on at a different angle.

Man, these closeups make me want to paint another FW squad! Painting skills have grown a lot in a year. I'd like to think I can do a lot better now.

I share your passion. Fire Warriors have to be my favourite unit of all time to paint. I have two more squads waiting in the wings to be built and painted and I'm leaving them as a reward for making more progress on the rest of my cadre.... Is that weird? Now to find the time. ;)

Howdy ATT,
Been away for a little bit without any new models to post. Some of you may have seen my WIP Broadside coversion thread. Finally have the finished model to show off.

Really love the new head, and very happy with how the gun came out.

Lots more pics, closeups, and the whole building process are on my blog in the sig below if you're interested.

Up next is another FW squad.

Cheers,

I managed to work in a lot of other spraying while I was working on that Broadside, so there are a few models trickling across the finish line now. I painted up the drones from the Pathfinder sprue without really reading the codex entry. Can't see myself actually fielding them until a codex rewrite, but they look pretty good. Practice I guess.

Also finally painted up a Kroot Hound just in time for a match vs Nidzilla. Those acute senses came in handy! He's probably not 100% done yet, but it was one of my fastest start to finish models yet. Nice when something comes together fast like that. Always rewarding to field new units.

Image

Currently working on a second FW squad. Can't believe I've been playing for over a year now with only 2 troops squads. I'll post up a how to on my paint scheme when they're done, more for my own learning than anything.

Took me forever, but I finally finished my second squad of Fire Warriors.

Here's the Shas'Ui. Arms taken from the tank commander, and carved out helmet with a bow to Tael:

A few assorted poses:

this is probably my favorite shot. Model on the left comes from my 1st squad ever painted in Dec 2012. Model on the right with all I've picked up in the last year in this hobby. Been a lot of fun!

As always, pics and progress shots on my blog in the sig below.

Another bit of fun, my Broadside was featured on today's White Dwarf Daily! Certainly feels like a nice little pat on the back. Now I think I'm going to have to be gunning for a feature in the print version. A ways off perhaps, but gotta have a goal somewhere in between where I am now and a Slayer Sword.

Camouflage? Where we're going we don't need camouflage.

When you think 'orange tau' you just think 'oh christ, no...' but looking at these my only thought is 'daaaaaamn!'
Those are some fine looking fire warriors and the orange/green contrast on the kroot is perfect. Add to that the dirty grimy stuff around exhausts and it all comes together so naturally it makes me jealous!

The orange/blue/white on the tanks make me think emergency services...

Ha! Thanks man. Yeah, aside from just liking orange, that was kind of part of the plan for me. So often I see really hideous brightly colored models that just don't work, and and I kind of wanted to prove that it could be done. I understand it's not for everyone. They're certainly a bit garish, but I kind of wanted something unapologetic- camo be damned!

Funny with the emergency services. Hadn't thought of that. In the US, you might see an ambulance in those colors rarely, but I've certainly seen those colors on emergency vehicles abroad. I suppose the comparison doesn't really bother me.

Tau'va, brethren. I've been a little silent on my Tau boys for a while and I thought I'd show why.
