There are some examples of people's skill at painting figures that just make me want to snap my brushes and toss them in the bin because I'm clearly wasting my time. The same people seem to paint figures which are totally inspiring and make me want to paint more. These are gorgeous. And galling. All wrapped into one. Grrrr! Yay!

I know the feeling. It's okay, you can come look at my minis and feel better about yourself.

Hah. Thanks guys. I too know the feeling. I get discouraged/inspired by a lot of the painters here and on other sites I frequent. Persifal's thread is a great example. Wood grain on the weapon stock? Seriously? Damn, now I have to do that.

The important thing to remember is you're not competing with anyone- only yourself. If you scroll up to my Firewarriors, you can see one of my prouder posts in that last image. I try to get better with every model I paint and try something new each time out. You can see a lot of improvement in my short time in the hobby. I think the one thing that's helped me more than anything is having my own blog (with a couple of other painters). That commitment forces me to put something up every week, and every little comment I get, and as the page views slowly increase, it keeps me motivated. Find some friends, start a blog, keep the discussion moving, keep learning from each other, and keep plugging away. It also helps if your friends are better than you ;)

Staying busy on my GK. Learning a lot on weathering, which I'm hoping to apply to some Tau stuff soon. I've got a Broadside and a FW Turret waiting in the wings. Here's my Aegis line (that my Tau guys will probably steal fairly often). Got really good with the Modelmates Rust on this. The stuff is great out of the bottle, but if you know what you're doing you can control exactly what effect you want.

Haven't checked in on my ATT WIP in a while. Just finished a full recap of my 2014 on my blog. Here's a sneak peek. I think it's time to dust off the orange paint bottles and get back to my Tau!

Hi Deet,
Good to see you are still at it!
Your paint jobs look great. I really like the weathering on those barricades.
I am looking forward to your future projects.

Finally finished my Dreadknight. Full pics and WIP on the blog.

Up next on my table, I've got 3 IG Psykers, and  a Cadre Fireblade and Kroot Shaper! Both those last guys have been base coated for over a year and it's well past time I showed them some love.

I'm making a long overdue return to my Tau boys. Finally back to work on my Cadre Fireblade that's been sitting base coated for over a year. I've got the colors blocked in now and just starting to do cleanup.

Solid work on the GKnights, the flyer is just as fine. Good to see a fellow sun kissed freckles for seasoned veterean tau scalps! :D

Finished my Fireblade. Got a bad cast, so a lot of the emblems on his armor were pretty soft. Ended up having to paint some of it in. Pretty happy with the speedy paint job though.

Didnt realise how detailed the back of the model is. Really working the blue nicely, balanced just so against his armor.

You know, with a lot of the painters on ATT, I just feel embarrassed to what I consider painted... Your models are beautiful and am actually intrigued by the Orange and grey/blue combo.. It really works well together... Fantastic job!!

Thanks Tael, Deepstrike.

Trip- It's weak sauce free-handing by the standards I want to get to, but you've got to start somewhere. I'm starting with trying to make myself paint symmetrical and consistent lines. Harder than I thought it would be. Let's see some on yours! You've got the skills man.

All of it is great Deet, but that base on the D-Knight? (kisses fingers in a European fashion to emphasize the beauty)

Your Knights themselves are something to brag about too, nice work!

Thanks, MG! I enjoyed working on that one a lot. Largely the credit goes to Mr Scibor, but I did a lot of vines and leaves on it myself. Two part tutorial starts here: http://thehammerofwrath.blogspot.com/2014/12/how-to-jungle-bases-sculpting-vines-leaves-17.html

Hello Orbital, It's been a long time! I've been away from the hobby in general for 7-8 months as I moved twice, got married, honeymoon, etc. Made painting a bit tough. In what little hobby time I've had, I've largely been neglecting my Tau boys, but no more!

It's a small thing, but a good way to work my way back in to the hobby. For years now, I've been faking my way through games with a minimum number of weapons on my suits and using count-as drones. I finally broke out the airbrush and got to work getting myself WYSIWYG. Lots more magnetized weapons and assorted drones.

Image

These guys still need washing and highlighting, but at least I can field them with some respect for now.

I've got goals to get some more Tau stuff in the works soon, but with an Alpha Legion army and new Seraphon army both still unable to field a basic FOC, it'll still probably be a lower priority for a bit.

Hope you're all doing well. Tau'va.

Doing well but busy as heck this year so far! Congrats on all the non-Tau stuff :D

Great to see the cadre fire up again, and some nice drones to boot (hoof?)

The new Drone kits certainly open up the options more than ever.
