Kin'D'uman Farsight Enclave [WIP]

I've moved my project log from "Modelling" to the proper channel.

Here are some updates on my ongoing Farsight Enclave Cadre. I had a buddy over to help me pin my Farsight conversion. Unfortunately, he broke the leg in the process and when he re-positioned him, it put Farsight in a much too forward leaning pose. I will change this before I begin painting.

He also taught me how to magnetize my models. It's a bit unexciting but I wanted to model a Fire Warrior Shas'ui that I could also use as Darkstrider. To make him WYSIWYG I magnetized a Pulse Carbine and Pulse Rifle option for him. He is equipped with an IG backback and will also carry a set of binoculars to count as his Structural Analyzer.

I finally found time to start working with my airbrush and I have to say, I think using an airbrush really suits my style of painting. In college I minored in art and I've studied and apprenticed with painters since my pre-teen years but I've never been able to translate what I've learned into painting. The airbrush has changed that.

For the Fire Warriors legs (I'm using Pathfinder legs to fit the theme of the Farsight fluff) I base coated everything in Chaos Black, then did a soft base coat at a 45º angle of Vallejo Air Olive Drab, then a top highlight using Vallejo Air Hemp. I think go back and add some complimentary highlight with a watered down and blended layer of the Hemp. After I get the boots painted, I'll decide whether or not the pants need another level of highlight. No washes have been used yet but I may consider a light wash down the road.

For the Fire Warrior heads, I base coated them Chaos black, then a solid base of Vallejo Air Mediterranean Blue. Using Vallejo Air Intermediate Blue, I give the model a bottom shade, then alternatively I use Vallejo Air Blue to add the top highlight at low pressure then a small 1/1 mix of Blue/White for brighter highlight. Next, I added a layer of matte medium before adding a Vellejo Blue Ink Wash. I make sure the wash feeds into the recessed and wipe away the excess with my thumb before adding some small finishing detail highlights with Blue.

Still toying around with my armor and digital camo color palette. I know it will be in a dark, urban, gray, blue range. Just need to settle on something.

Lots more to come!

Looking good!

I do have to say, just today I got my Farsight model with the intent of doing the exact same conversion on a XV-9 battlesuit.
Great minds think alike eh :)

They are actually going to be Fire Warriors. I think the Pathfinder poses are more dynamic and I also feel that they fit with the fluff of Farsight. They don't have regular supply shipments from the Empire any longer so they have to make due with what they have.

I've been able to put a little more work into the Fire Warrior heads. Some teeth, some subtle highlight fixes and of course, their collar. I went with the same process I used on the pants : Olive Drab, Khaki, then a slight wash with Nuln Oil before going back to do some edge highlights with the Khaki.

I love the detail on the heads! Even if row after row of heads is a little creepy...

Haha... When you have 2500pts to paint and a display board to build you have to get with te assembly line.

Funny you say the heads are creepy but no mention of the mannequins in the background.

Not too much to add. I've been out of town for a week. Took some time today to "recover" from a week long trade show. My "recovery" included preliminary building of my display board.

There is so much on my To Do List, it's not even funny. Luckily, I have a long time frame. My goal, at the end of this is to not only have a decently painted army but I'm really gunning for Best Painted at the 2015 SCARAB event. I think I can do it, but it is a long road to glory...

A little more progress on the Enclave Fire Warriors. I have some Kroot shoulder pad bitz on the way. May give those a go in place of the traditional pads.

Still a lot of work left : painting the cloth on the torso, adding the pouches, painting the boots and feet as well as the arms. Progress is a good thing though.

Some more new hotness. Got a wild hare up my rear end and decided I wanted to make some Tael inspired Bodyguards. I will be using a helmet from an XV9 and Terminator shoulder pads to help tie this in. Need to fill in some gaps and smooth everything out but you get the gist of it.

Check it...

More from the fray... I've got some paint on my slightly converted Cadre Fireblade. He still needs a wash, a head, basing, etc. I've also nearly completed my display board. I'm waiting on some ruins to paint and assemble. Check it out...

Kin'D'uman. Your cadre is coming together very nicely. I really like your painting on the firewarriors. It looks realistic. Them having no helmets give them personality, and it gave me an idea of having one of them as a specialist, with helmet or custom helmet and some gear.
Your display board is just amazing. Really like the color theme and execution.

Thanks Xauk! The disply board has really only been a two-day project. One day cutting and gluing, the second painting and basing. I still plan to add the ruins to the back corners and possibly some burnt conifer trees. I'll also be adding a touch of burnt grass as well. Not much though.

The idea behind the Fire Warriors is that they are Enclave Warriors. They don't have the access to the Empire's equipment necessarily. So, I've made use of Imperial Guard bitz, left them helmet less as youv'e noticed and have converted their Plasma Rifles to look a little unique. I'm also contemplating using Kroot shoulder pads as opposed the the standard issue Fire Warrior pad. Since the colors are all based on "realistic" tones, the shoulders will bring in some of the red that you see on the Fireblade's thigh armour. I'm hoping to have the Fire Warriors done this week. Wish me luck!

Here's a photo with most of the units on the display board. Missing are the four beefed up Bodyguards and Enclave Warriors. Obviously, the Enclave Warriors will be behind the Aegis. In tournaments, I'll never be able to take my full army (about 3000pts) so I shouldn't need worry about space on the board, but I still think I could fit more if I needed to. Also on the board are my converted Shield Drones (made using Shield Generators from Crisis kit) and my objective markers made from several bits around the bunch. As I get more progress made I'll post more photos...

Image

Here's what's left to do :

IN PROGRESS
1 // Cadre Fireblade : paint head, boots, wash, pulse effects, base
19 // Enclave Warriors : boots, weapons, shoulder pad, wash, pulse effects, base
1 // Darkstrider / Enclave Warrior (magnetized for both uses) : boots, weapons, shoulder pad, wash, pulse effects base
1 // Longstrike : binocular lens, Ardcoat
Aegis Defense Line & Quad Gun : digital camo, wash

TO DO
1 // Commander Farsight (Converted from XV9)
1 // Buff'mander (Converted from XV9
9 // Crisis Suits (Converted from XV9)
4 // Crisis Bodyguards (Inspired by Shas'O Tael's work)
2 // Riptides
3 // Broadsides
2 // Razorshark Strikefighters
1 // Hammerhead
6 // Marker Drones
2 // Shielded Missile Drones
16 // Shield Drones (Converted using Crisis Shield Generators)
7 // Objective Markers

I have a feeling the suits will paint relatively quickly (knock on wood as I am going to apply a modified digital camo technique).

T-minus 10 months until my next GT.

Wish me luck!

lots of work, man. I'd be intimidated by having that much to paint all at once. Good on ya.

I'd love to see pics of your objective markers. Really need to make a few myself, and while I know there's a whole thread of em here, I'd love to see more.

So, I've been making slow progress on my Enclave Warriors. Used metallic paints for the first time. I'm not a huge fan but I used a copper and silver together to achieve some decent results. I'll post photos on that later, now, onto the real reason I'm posting today. I wanted to have my dog represented on the battlefield. Lame, I know, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to use a Kroot Hound or not but I came across a great mini that works fantastically as my pup is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and the model has...well...ridges.

The fluff behind him is that he is a Vior'lan Hound, the pet to Commander Farsight himself! I will use him as a count-as Shield Drone. I modeled him on a Shield Drone base, he stands about as tall as my shortest drone, so it should work out okay on the battlefield.

Enjoy!
