Suits
I don't own very many crisis suits, but I've got more arriving in the mail this week. Hopefully tomorrow! Not that I need more to paint on my army.

Devilfish
Image

Firewarriors
Just need to highlight these bad boys. Their cloth fabric is rather simplistically painted, but I don't think I'm going to worry about that. I'm satisfied with how they look on the table.

Nice work, very cohesive paintjob and I especially dig the panel lining with gold. Personally I'm not normally a fan of extreme panel lining but with blue and gold it just holds together quite well.

I gotta ask where that Gue'la model is from.

Akul Contingent
---
Hunter Cadre
Support Cadre
Gue'vessa Cadre
---

The Akul Contingent's mission is to venture deep human controlled space and find the Emperor of Mankind. Then persuade him to unite the race of mankind with Tau for the greater good. To do so they're working under the guise of the armed forces of the Inquisitors Karen and Illia Verena.

Note: I am aware of how utterly preposterous this is. Fluff-wise my Tau/Humans do not. Clearly if there is an Emperor of Mankind it should be possible to reason with him. But hereasy!? Well, that's why I end up fighting Space Marines armies a lot.

Command Structure

1 - Aun'Tash
Head Ethereal in charge of the expedition.

2 - Shas'o Akul J'Korst'Kha - Commander Reflecting Fire
O'J'Korst'Kha prefers to be at the forefront of battle, using his own skills and iridium armor to minimize casualties to the rest of his forces.

3 - Vr'o'vesa vash'aun'an Aun'Taal D'Doran'Elro Inquisitor Illia Verena
Human Commander Born of the Warp Ethereal Preserver Twin Calm Voice

4 - Shas'el Akul Eoro'D'Yanoi'Seri Oni'Dan'Ye - Commander Moonlight
Commander Moonlight is directly in charge of the stealth cadre, which will frequently need to be operating under radio silence. As such she is rarely, if ever in a position to take command those not in her direct vicinity.

5 - Vr'el'vesa vash'aun'an Aun'Taal D'Doran'Ny Inquisitor Karen Verena
Human Sub-Commander Born of the Warp Ethereal Preserver Twin Calm Hair

Note: These two are the result of seeing the infinity models (Reverend Custodier and Oniwaban Kitsune) and liked them so much I had to create a fluff story for them. I have always disliked the name "Gue'vessa", meaning "lesser helper", it just strikes me a rather racist and I've always liked to think that the Tau were above such petty things. As such I wanted them to be held on equal footing as with the rest of my army. Hence the "vr" instead of "gue", as in "equal" instead of "lesser". Thus if O'J'Korst'Kha is wounded in combat, overall command does technically fall to them, though in all but the rarest situations (usually daemons) they pass command onto Sub-Commander Mesa'Raik as twins prefer to micromanage one or two units while O'J'Korst'Kha directs the general flow of battle.

6 - Shas'el Akul Mesa'Raik - Sub-Commander Marked Time
Unlike O'J'Korst'Kha, El'Mesa'Raik loathes putting himself directly into combat. He prefers to watch the combat from above, and to direct troops from a vantage point. Because of this, overall tactical command almost constantly passed onto him while O'J'Korst'Kha personally sees to the on the ground split-second decisions.

7 - Shas'vre Akul Aun'Taal Oni'Dan - Riptide Pilot Ethereal Preserver Covering Fish Jump
Vre'Oni'Dan is O'J'Korst'Kha's sister and is next in line if all the above are wounded and removed from combat. That being said while she has taken command, it is usually only in the most dire of situations especially because El'Mesa'Raik so rarely takes to the front lines and is thus so rarely removed from combat.

Note: All officers have a primarily green shoulder pad instead of a teal one.

Beginnings of the Akul Contingent

The story of this army begins not on a Tau planet but on an inquisitor's ship heading into Tau space. The inquisitors target was to study this Tau species that had so recently beat back the Imperial forces in the debacle that was the Damocles Crusade. Her target location being the Dal'yth Sept, as it was known to be welcoming to human travelers. However, upon entering the warp the ships engines overloaded and broke down. Mechanics immediately swarmed over the engines but no solution to fix them quickly was apparent. Several months stranded in warp space, the ship's Gellar Field Device gave out resulting in several things simultaneously. First and foremost the ship became one with the warp as a result of the wave of chaos that engulfed it starting at the bow and sweeping all the way back to the engines. Secondly, the crew found themselves in somewhat dire straights. About a third of the crew were driven instantly insane by the unspeakable horrors surrounding them. Another third of the crew were immediately attacked by daemons. Finally, only a third of the crew managed to survive the hour. Yet only one did all three of these things.

That one person was the inquisitor's child who was born moments before the Gellar Field Device gave out. When this child first opened her eyes, she was being overwhelmed by chaos and her left eye opened in warp space while her right eye opened in real space. It was only a split second of difference in realspace before her entire body was overwhelmed by the warp, but it was a seeming eternity in warpspace. This extreme trauma of conflicting realities literally tore the child's soul in half. One half of her soul remained in its original body while the other half created an identical body out of warpspace. Thus were the future inquisitors Karen Verena and Illia Verena born into existence.

Illia's heretical existence might have been to a swift end had anyone around her noticed her sudden apperance. As it was, all those around her were either too incapacitated (her mother), too occupied (by bloodthirsty servants of khorne) or in two many pieces (see previously mentioned bloodthirsty servants of khorne) to notice. Every member of the crew found themselves scattered somewhere in the warp, the crew's quarters ended up around Slaneesh's palace, the mess hall in Nurgle's farm, the bridge next to Khorne's throne, and the engine room in Tzeentch's crystal palace. Unlike most of those unlucky souls, the inquistor, her henchmen and her children found themselves smack dab at the feet of Lord Kaldor Draigo.

Under his protection the group wasn't instantly slaughtered like so many others. They were merely slowly picked off. 20 years later only three of the original group remained, Karen, Illia, and Shawn. Illia, functionally speaking was a daemon and thus rather unkillable (well permanently) in warpspace and she quickly learned to protect and heal her sister. That fact combined with the tutelage and protection one of mankind's greatest and most experienced warriors makes it somewhat unsurprising that they managed to survive. Shawn on the other hand, while skilled, was just freakishly lucky. It was at this point that the mechanics (who were rather unaware of what was going on snugly trapped in the crystal labyrinth) managed to restore power to the ship's engines, whereupon it ripped itself back into Tau space. However, lacking any particular remnants of a crew it promptly crashed into Akul.

As the ship plummeted through the atmosphere it broke in half, spreading a wide field of debris. Upon "landing" the back half of the ship promptly unleashed a horde of daemons, flooding out of a warp rift in the "fixed" engines. All nearby towns were quickly overrun. At the other crash site, Shawn found himself critically injured but alive (as I said, freakishly lucky). Karen and Illia simply sat around rather befuddled by this new dimension they had had only the briefest glimpses of throughout their life. This was the situation that the trio was found in by Shas'ui Oni'Dan and her scouting party. After a short exchanged one of the water caste members managed to communicate their desire to help and whisked the trio away to a nearby hospital in the capital. Here, under the watchful and rather paranoid eye of Karen, Illia, and their firecaste "escorts". During this brief time the tau water caste tried to get as much information out of the duo as possible, which was admittedly minimal.

Then the first wave a daemon arrived. The hospital, near the city edge, was quickly evacuated. Karen, Illia, and their escort followed the stream of refuges towards the fire caste citadel. Following the city roads full of panicked crowds was not Karen's and Illia's strong suits. That being said the city's garrison had been caught completely unawares and their first line of defense had been almost instantly overwhelmed. Hordes of daemons moved much faster than a panicked crowd and Karen, Illia and their escort quickly found themselves persuaded by hordes of daemons. This was a rather desired improvement to their situation because unlike trying to understand city planning, Karen and Illia were rather comfortable dealing with hordes of Cthulhu esque monsters.

The duo quickly became the linchpin of the forces that were holding a fighting retreat to protect the fleeing refugees. This fighting retreat eventually brought them to the citadel, the only place in the city managing to put up any meaningful resistance to the advancing army. Yet even its defenses were slowly overwhelmed bit by bit until only the command center remained. It was here that Karen, Illia, Shas'ui Oni'Dan and a handful of firewarriors held off waves of daemons to protect Shawn (I'm telling you, the man is rather lucky), the Ethereal Aun'Tash, and a handful of refuges. The one hallway leading into the room was clogged with corpses, and even the chaos terminators that warped into the room were cut down before they could harm the last remaining ethereal of the city.

The small group of fighters managed to hold on until an elite strike force of crisis and stealth suits lead by Shas'el J'Korst'Kha managed to cut a swathe through the citadel to them and back out to an evacuation shuttle. In transit from the shuttle to the closest military staging ground, El'J'Korst'Kha briefed the Ethereal on the seemingly endless waves of daemons streaming from the crashed shuttle. Aun'Tash ordered the general to seek advice about the daemons from the two gue'vessa on the shuttle with them. Thus beginning the partnership in the war that would culminate in Shas'el J'Korst'Kha personally leading a strike team with Karen and Illia into the wreckage of their mother's ship whereupon Illia physically pulled the warp rift closed to end the daemon incursion.

On the Tau word Gue'la
Guilo or Guailou (also spelled Gweilo) is the Cantonese Chinese word for 'ghost' and is the slang expression for Caucasians and Westerners and Foreigners in general. It is the basis for the tau word: Gue'la https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gweilo
I guess it was an inside joke at GW, as the Tau (as in the Tao, as in Tau'Va - The Way of the Tau) are a stand in for the Chinese in the WH40K universe. So you're not far off on the shady implications of the word Gue'la!

The Greater Good itself references Confucianism, another point in the direction of the Tau being Chinese. (You don't have to take my word for it, do a search on the A.T.T. site for 'Chinese' and 'Confucianism' and see what you get!)

I think though by this time 'Gue'la' simply means 'human' for the tau and 'lesser being' is not really the meaning intended. Though your use of 'Vr' is original and a clever use of the tau word! ;)

Other Stuff
Oni'da means Covering Darkness (Oni'dan however would mean 'Covering Fish Jump') Might have been a typo though! :P

J'Suam would mean 'Reflecting Flame' which is more poetic than 'Reflecting Fire' (though it could also be translated as 'Reflecting Burning'). 'Shas' is the tau word for 'Fire', 'Star' or 'Sun' The word 'Suam' on the other hand shows up in names like Qan'suam - Pure Flame and Fio'suam - 'Earth Flame'

To be fair though, there was an error in the Expanded Tau Lexicon and the meaning 'Flame' was not part of the original translation of 'Suam'.

'Mistakes were made!' :::(

All in all I love your fluff and your modelling hope you keep posting your work as it comes along.

Note: Updated the New Tau Lexicon ver. 1.7 to reflect (no pun intended) the corrections due to 'my mistakes'

Yes that was a typo. I almost want to change her name now because that's hilarious and her "real" name is a bit too edgy for my taste. In fact I'm pretty sure I am going to change it. Now to think up a fluffy explaination. Hmm.

From the lexicon
lexicon wrote:Suam: 1. n. ‘Fire’ or ‘Combustion’ [the act of combustion]’ References to burning and flame, as versus the word 'Shas or ‘Fire’; 2. n
'.
Suam'ten'grii: [comp.] 1. n. {mil. trm.} 'Burning Sky', a fire caste air-defence system;
. a poetic expression
meaning 'Flame' [Note a common element in tau fire caste names e.g.
'Qan'suam – 'Pure Flame

I'm positive I didn't mean literal fire as in "shas". The fire in his name is referring to being fired upon by bullets not literal flames. Since in my fluff (and in game) he is standing up front shrugging off bullets with his iridium armor or straight up taking lascannon wounds to prevent his comrades from suffering armor ignoring instant death. A name bestowed upon him by his subordinates to be show the world "this dude totally saves our lives on a daily basis by literally taking bullets for us".

Suam was simply the closest I could find to that. Maybe I need to tack on another tau word like korst (annihilation/death), ka (strike), or nem (piercing) to better state my intention. Thoughts?

I've got two broadsides upstairs that I just primed right next to a batch of 6 secondhand crisis suits that are sitting in some Simple Green (so I can strip and re-paint them). Also, I'm trying my hand out with magnets! i also need to highlight everything. I'll have plenty to post in the future, including a little bit more fluff (I've recorded kill counts for all the named characters in my army).

Love Simple Green! Soak, scrub with old toothbrush and rinse in clear water! Presto-chango like the model came still attached to the sprue!

Whoa! You mean something like 'Tracer fire' with the additional meaning of 'Old Ironside' (1812 U.S.S. Constitution)? See the problem is that there aren't enough words yet in the Lexicon. There aren't words or expressions for 'Taking fire' or 'Tracer' or 'Ricochet' or 'Glancing Hit'!

Xhmm...don't give up yet! Give me a few days and I bang out some new words and word combinations to get the meaning you want. :)

Great fluff, looking forward to reading some cadre based stories! By the way your explanation is a good example of how a 'Honorific Name' is bestowed on a firewarrior!

All of the Tau commander names, once translated, are usually two words mashed into one always following the form of Descriptive Word + Noun/Verb with one of the words usually being 3-4 letters.

Shadowsun
Farsight
Darkstrider
Longstrike
Brightsword
Bravestorm
Torchstar

Hence with all my names I'm sticking with Descriptive Word + Noun/Verb, and trying to keep one word short
Reflecting Fire
(Twin) Calm Hair
(Twin) Calm Voice
Covering Darkness

That being said I'm quite attached to the name Reflecting Fire, but suam is clearly not the word I'm looking for. I don't like the idea of some variation of reflecting bullets as a name because that to me implies he is only blocking only STR 3-5 shots (bolters and the like). This is an act that any crisis suit could do for his comrades, I assume it isn't that unheard of. Whereas my commander is actively seeking to take those bullets (in high volume), but also STR 8/9 anti-tank shots that even regular crisis suits would instantly die to with no saves. For example, in my latest game he tanked up a Lord Of Skulls' AP3 Apocalyptic blast for his squad, and was actively harrying the thing so it would shoot/chase him and not the rest of the army. Mere shield of flame or deflecting bullets doesn't seem to encapsulate his feats to me.

My latest attempt at his name is J'Korst'Kha.
J- v. To Reflect
Kha: n. {meteorology} 'Hail' or 'Sleet'.
Korst: n. ‘Death’; ‘Annihilation’; or 'Oblivion' [See entry for Ghoro].

So literally "Reflects Annihilating Sleet"

"Annihilating sleet" most closely translating to "Fire" of the definition "the discharge of firearms (covering fire/enemy fire)" or "the effect of firing military weapons (to pour fire upon the enemy)", but specifically "fire" that would inflict great damage depending on whomever is receiving it. Be that a squad of hammerheads onto a single enemy tank, stealth suits unloading on a squad of guardsmen, or a heavy bolter shooting a group of firewarriors.

Thus the closest translation being Reflecting Fire.

Most excellent achievement! :P

That's the kind of creativity I love to see from A.T.T. members!

Do understand I was just throwing you some more 'legos' or tau word 'building blocks' to see what else you come up with, but what you finally came up with was even better.

I want ask permission to use your character's name and how you 'built' it from the Lexicon in a future 'How To Create Tau Words and Names' article for A.T.T. The example you gave is concise, detailed, and poetic (as all tau names should be), and it would be a good example for the article.

Waiting to see pictures of this awesome Shas'O'J'kha'korst!

PS What does the 'Twin' Calm hair refer to? Two braids, two pony tails, two different colours of hair?

I'd be honored if you used my post in the lexicon or in a future article.

I actually have a picture of him in the opening post. He was the first crisis suit I ever built, therefore he looks rather plain (posturewise) compared to some of the suits here on ATT. But he's been with me for a few years and I still love him even in his simplicity.

I just posted a batrep if you're interested in his feats.
viewtopic.php?f=48&t=23571&p=295487#p295487

I haven't quite gotten around to a fluff post to go more in depth about them. Twin Calm Hair didn't completely dodge a flamer of tzeentch during her time in the warp. It turned half her skin/hair into gold. As such half her hair moves much slower/less than normal hair does. You can't really tell from my photo, but half her face is good as well.

So I've been pretty busy recently. Sadly last night no one showed up to the hobby store near my to play some 40k. By sadly I mean, luckily, because I got to roleplay as a humanoid spider, that thought it was a wizard but in reality just threw explosives at everything. It was delightful. That being said I finished highlighting and varnishing my firewarriors/pathfinders. I also recently magnetized all my drones, primarily so I can use missile drones as SMS for my devilfish/hammerhead or gun drones for said vehicles instead of just gun drones for either, which was lame and confusing to my opponents. Yay.

I also got several more drones primed up along side my two newest broadsides. The newer model is also magnetized. Such has my forey into magnets begun, and I'm sad I didn't start earlier.
Image

Here's those crisis suits that I mentioned getting second hand along with a skyray turret. Man I'm a sucker for that skyray now.
Image

Here's those in the wonderful simple green.
Image

Here's them a couple of days ago. I soaked them for about a week, and got them out and scrubbed them just about every day but a lot of the paint wouldn't come off. So I just primed them all yesterday and they're currently airing out in my attic. It turns out whoever assembled them before used a really low quality glue. I just pulled them apart with my bare hands. This is awesome, because I really want to magnetize them.
Image

Along with my foray into magnets, I've also started messing around with green stuff. Specifically on my two inquisitors that I've been imagining for over a year now. Here's Illia. The idea is that she's pretty much made of warp so I'm going to try to paint it like she's spewing warp onto the ground from her cape (or vise versa). Super excited, no idea how to paint that in a way that'll look good. But the green stuff hardened exactly like I had been imagining it.
Image

Image

Here's Karen. Sometimes I play her as an eversor assassin, sometimes as farsight. Just kinda depends on my mood. So I magnetized the bottom of her base and a terminator base so she has the appropriate base either way. I'm planning on pitting some green stuff on her smaller base to look like it's splashing against an force field in front of her. I'm just not sure how to paint her base though. I'm not super happy with how her current one looks. It's fine, but I want her to be one of the coolest models in my army, and right now her base is just kinda "meh" looking colorwise. I'm going for a running through the warp idea. Any ideas?

"Annihilating sleet" most closely translating to "Fire" of the definition "the discharge of firearms (covering fire/enemy fire)" or "the effect of firing military weapons (to pour fire upon the enemy)", but specifically "fire" that would inflict great damage depending on whomever is receiving it. Be that a squad of hammerheads onto a single enemy tank, stealth suits unloading on a squad of guardsmen, or a heavy bolter shooting a group of firewarriors.

Thus the closest translation being Reflecting Fire.

O'J'Korst'Kha's preferred tactic of combat appears at first glance to be Mont'Ka, but in reality it is much more in line with the kauyon style. It revolves around having a strong but small defensive force of firewarriors, devilfish, hammerheads, gue'vessas and broadsides. Then an offensively deployed force of riptides and stealth suits. The riptides and stealth suits rapidly advance forward and engage the enemy, whereupon he personally deepstrikes into the enemy ranks to sow chaos and destruction. It appears to be an all out alpha strike of his deadliest combatants, but in reality those attacking are chosen for their speed and duribility not their offensive power. These units inevitably draw the enemies attention and therefore guns towards themselves. Whereupon they can survive the barrage of fire thrown upon them and lure the enemies into a chase into the line of fire of the significantly less sturdy but relatively untouched defensive forces behind him.

His rise from a common shas'ui firewarrior to a shas'el subcommander was unremarkable. His overarching understanding of the tactical nature of large scale combat, while slightly above average, was never particularly noteworthy while compared to the understanding of other heroes of the Tau empire. Where he always excelled was in his ability to keenly analyze where his enemies greatest threats lay and how to remove or avoid those threats. He was always the one sinking his teeth into the biggest baddest threat crashing into Tau battle lines while he left the managing of reserves, reinforcements, and supply lines to other more competent hands. His promotion from shas'el to shas'o was merely as a result of his success in the final battle of the war for Akul where he hand delivered Inquisitor Illia Verena to the warp rift thus bringing the planetary to an end. Hand delivered, through crashed, warp-tainted spaceship crawling with daemons.

O'J'Korst'Kha is always fielded with iridium armor, puretide engram neurochip, and two weapons (most frequently double missile pod, double plasma rifle, or double fusion blaster). His other support and signature systems very by mission. He and his sister (riptide) are the only Tau units my army that I intentionally throw into combat. O'J'Korst'Kha has won slightly over 50% of the close combat situations he has found himself in.

Vr'o'vesa vash'aun'an Aun'Taal D'Doran'Elro Inquisitor Illia Verena and Vr'el'vesa vash'aun'an Aun'Taal D'Doran'Ny Inquisitor Karen Verena
Human Commander, Born of the Warp, Ethereal Preserver, Twin Calm Voice and Calm Hair

Describing these two "sisters" is rather weird. They were born as one person whose soul immediately ripped in half. One half stayed in their original body (Karen), one half basically became a chaos god of the warp (Illia) and before you rage let me qualify that. The Chaos Gods control huge swaths of the warp, feed on an emotion and thus gain huge powers to do things like bestow boons on their minions, to create greater and lessor daemons, things like that. Illia can do most of that fun stuff (she controls a section of the warp (her body in the warp is literally this), she can create mini-daemons from her essence), but to give you a scale of the magnitude of her powers let's assume Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, and Slaanesh to be of the power level of Zeus. Then for scale let's say that an individual human has the power of a house fly. Even if trillions of them rise up and attack Zeus, he's just going to fry them with a big lightning bolt. With this scale Illia is more like a preying mantis. She can ruin the day of a bunch of mortals, but opposing an actual chaos god? HAHAHAHA. Yeah, no.

Unsurprisingly Karen is the significantly more rash and emotional of the two, seeing as her emotions literally sustain Illia. Illia herself isn't emotionless, it just takes a great bit more effort to provoke her into significant emotional reactions. Hence the name Calm Voice for rather obvious reasons. Karen's name comes from as a result of a run in with a flamer of tzeentch in the warp. She wasn't able to fully dodge its fire and half of her hair and face, her left arm and a good third of her torso turned to literal solid gold. As a result half of her hair doesn't really move all that easily. She can still use those parts of her body and more importantly not die, because her twin happens to be a chaos god and can mess with reality. Although animating usually inanimate gold does have the somewhat inconvenient side effect of making her left eye visibly glow with the unholy energies of the warp. Did I mention that these two are inquisitors?
Image

See growing up in the warp, they didn't really have the good old usual imperium indoctrination about what is and what is not heresy. To be fair their mother (who was an inquisitor) was around to help raise them, to whatever extent that is possible in the warp. Unsurprisingly she was more concerned on a daily basis with not dying horribly to daemons to really bother educating them on what normals human considered to be heresy or not. As a result of growing up with people's literal nightmares, they also have a very low tolerance for people yelling "heresy!" at them. There first exposure to this was shortly after the flamer event, when Illia filled Karen with warp energy to not die. Draigo, who was as close as they got to a decent father figure at that time in their life, did immediately and without the slightest hesitation try to slay the two of them. Learning from this experience, Karen commonly wears an eye patch outside of combat to reduce the amount of strangers inconveniently trying to kill her as she crosses a street.

Random Trivia:
Illia can speak Tau to a passable degree. Karen has the fluency of a high school student in a foreign language class.

Karen and Illia's mother died in the warp when a daemon of Slaanesh impersonated their father. As a result Karen and Illia have a greater hatred towards slaanesh than other daemons. Upon their mother's death they took up her Inquisitorial Seal, although they didn't have remotely close the the full grasp of what all that seal meant at the time (they do now). Currently all but the most radical of other Inquisitors oppose Karen and Illia's claim to be part of the inquisition. That being said anyone who is not an inquisitor (almost everyone) does not question an Inquisitorial Seal. Since the twins have the same goals as inquisitors, act like inquisitors, and are shown the same respect as inquisitors (by everyone who aren't inquisitors or of similar rarity/governmental status) anyone who claims they're not technically inquisitors is just arguing semantics.

On the table Illia is always a non-close combat oriented character with an invulnerable save (and preferably not an armor save). Most commonly I field her as Eldrad, but more recently as a vindicare assassin. Karen is always a close-combat oriented character with an AP3 or better sword. Originally I fielded her as asurman, but more recently as farsight or an eversor assassin.

They did find their biological father, and he is around but rarely relevant fluffwise.

In combat Karen super heats her sword (so that it cauterizes instantly) and she strictly avoids decapitating people, replacing that by slicing horizontally at eye level. Take that khorne.

Illia has acquired a small following of cultists who worship her.

Karen is extremely good at cutting through the warp into real space to arrive at a specific location (sometimes I run her as the warlord of my army as farsight). She however can't really close said warps well. Illia can't cut through warp space into reality but she's really good at mending rips closed.

Finally finished painting up my infinity models that I use a proxies. I'm super happy about how they turned out. The cloak blending into the base worked out exactly how I imagined it. Turns out I don't really have a steady enough hand to paint a lot of the details these infinity models have. I'll probably be sticking with gw stuff for a while just for ease of painting.

I have to say that I like what you have posted in this thread and appreciate the fluff you've created. But I was wondering if you might be able to shrink the pictures you have showing as they are quite large and make it difficult to see all of text... At least for me.

Still, please keep up the great work, really liking it.

I really like the way you've added some back story to your army, and I would definitely love to do the same! :)
Your Tau naming convention is fantastic too! Did you come up with it yourself or draw from something else?

I'm glad you enjoyed reading some of my fluff. I would recommend spending the time to create one for your army. Like fully painted models, it just adds to the enjoyment of fielding the army.

As for naming I noticed all of the Tau commander names, once translated, are usually two words mashed into one always following the form of Descriptive Word + Noun/Verb with one of the words usually being 3-4 letters (farsight, shadowsun, longstike, etc). Then I just printed out the tau lexicon from the library in the water caste subforum elsewhere on this forum. I just threw words around until I found stuff that fit my characters story/personality or just sounded good.

Also the Sunshark is coming along well. I'm super happy so far.
