Nice work, really liking to contrast between the reds of the base and the browns of the riptide, hopefully he and his drones will get to grace the battlefield at some stage :) Looking forward to seeing how you handle the kroot, as I'm considering getting some myself at some stage, if only they released a new box with a few hounds or a krootox/shaper!

With JB, the contrast is great for this stomping mech coming through! :)

Thanks Shas'ui JB & Tael! The contrast wasn't really planned, as I was originally hoping the bases would better match the armour colour, but it is quite striking :crafty:

I have made a (slow) start on my pile of Kroot
Image
These were gifted to me 10 years ago as payment for painting a friends Space Wolves (he had added some mercenaries to his force, before deciding it didn't work). There is quite a big job ahead, removing unrealistically positioned SM pauldrons, and pinning snapped barrels back into position. I can't see much modelling time in the near future, but I'll try to keep you updated.

- Yes cheaper plastic alternatives for these models would be nice. We'll have to see what 2018 brings. Paint wise they'll look like this:

(the rider at least), which broadly follows Tammy Haye's painting guide for the Krootox on page 46 of the 2001 Codex Tau

Not seen that one before right? :P

No WIP pictures unfortunately, but I will be making others at some stage.
The crossbow was made from:
2x Kroot rifles,
1x plastic kroot rifle sling,
1x metal Shaper rifle sling,
1x Kroot ammo belt,
plasticard,
cotten thread,
2mm brass wire,
and green stuff

Huh - very clever of random parts - reminds me of when I built the cityfight models from scrap parts :D

Thanks for that!

Things are going very slowly (no hobby time lately), but things are pretty much glued together, awaiting greenstuff. I'm away from home at the moment, but should be able to get more pictures up (and more modelling done) in September

Where'd you get those trees used on the pterodactyl Kroot base? I keep seeing them all over but I'm not sure where they come from.

Amazing work, by the way.

Thanks Hoob They came with the 3rd edition equivalent of the start collecting box set, but you can probably find them on ebay...

A few pictures of very limited progress on the Kroot.
Image
These models were quite battered, so have taken some work to restore, I've also added some small extras in places
Image
and am currently toying with a shotgun varient
Image
but I think the upper barrel is too long.

Apologies for the poor image quality

Slow progress is still progress :crafty:

What about an East End gangster style sawn off double barrel shotgun?

The intention is for it to have a reversible axe function, so short of remodelling the barrels to be narrower I think that would be too wide for a Kroot hand to grip. I will give it a go though...

Oh, I see. I don't have any Kroot, so didn't notice the modification.

... narrow grip, yeah, you'd have to chop off the thumbs and sculpt them back in!

Unfortunately I just sold off all my Kroot parts, so I'm unsure how to advise the mod. A potential is rotating the hand grip onto a lower 'cartridge barrel' as the pump-action handle? This way you have one barrel at the right inline with chamber. and still retain the grip hand.

I can see that working, but not necessarily with the way I'm planning on posing it:

I want to put the emphasis on the reversible nature of Kroot weapons, and I'm not too sure how moving parts would work with that. I might just settle on a single, shorter barrel.

Again sorry for the poor image quality
