Commander skystorm's forces

Hey guys

I've been looking at threads for months from all of you posting your armies, painting projects and all manner of cool stuff and I've decided it's time to share my offerings with the group!

This is a list I started about 5 months ago for a campaign which has just begun, I've got some more bits to add and a few bits to finish to a "tabletop" standard, but you can start to get the impression of what I'm going for. I plan to go back and edge highlight the suits once I have everything to a reasonable standard.

Any suggestions are most welcome and all comments are appreciated!

Let me know if the pictures don't come out too well!

Liking it thus far. The bases really come out nicely in combination with your color scheme.

Is this your first Tau army?

Too small to see the detail for tips, but looks like a really nice scheme.

Is there any supporting fluff? :)

Thanks. Yeah it's my first tau army.

I'll add some individual suit pictures this afternoon :)

Not any supporting fluff just yet, working on it though

Really liking the striking blue with orange contrast!

I realize you're not quite done with these yet, so I don't know if you maybe had this, or something similar planned already.

I feel the Stealth/Crisis would really benefit from orange squad-markings (beyond the whites wich I assume designate rank). Something small, designs like you can find on the Tau transfer sheets.
Perhaps also some kind of numbering system on the Drones (similarly like one sees on the transfer sheets).

Kind of looking forward to see more of these!

I am looking into adding markings for the drones and you've given me some good ideas, when I do some testing I'll post it up here to get some feedback. Likewise on the stealth suits, they definitely need some more orange. It's tough to know how much of the secondary and tertiary colours to add until you get the army all together.

Thanks for the kind words!

Love the look of your army! What colour is that blue? And is it a Citadel, Vallejo or Privateer Press colour? Also did you use an ink or wash with it?

PS if you wanted your character's name in tau'sia, here it is: Ten’grii’isva - Skystorm; which get you Shas'O'Ten'grii'isva - Commander Skystorm

Really nice. I usually don't like that kind of blue but it looks good on your models!
Consider this topic as subscribed. ;)

Also: yay for Sa'Cea! I gonna make you part of Sa'Cea now based on the orange whether you like it or not! :P

The scheme is fairly simple:

- airbrush vallejo grey primer
- airbrush vallejo game air electric blue
- agrax earthshade wash into all the recesses and lines
- vallejo dark grey on the legs and mechanical parts and a nuln oil wash
- balthazar gold on the gyro's, then reikland fleshshade, then golden griffon drybrush
- 2-3 layers of very thin administratum grey on some of the panels
- thinned fire dragon bright for the orange
- final tidy up of the electric blue by hand, the paint is nice and thin as it's an airbrush paint so it goes on smoothly

Bases are just cork tiles ripped up and lots of martian ironearth paint, I think I used half a pot on 1 riptide base!

Hopefully that's not too long a list!

Thanks Panzer & Tauman :D Your kind words keep me motivated to get them finished!

I may have got a bit distracted from painting by building my 3 dual CIB crisis suits!

I'll let you know how they get on in my next game, I've got a 1250 game against blood angels in a week or so.

I'm going to use a FSE CAD + Retaliation Cadre.
