Why shouldn't it be worth it?
Crisis are still okay-ish and more Firewarrior is never bad. Especially in 8th. It's still a damn good deal.

I guess you are right... It's just my silly way of thinking and maybe I got the wrong picture after reading the big thread.
I hope there will be no drastic changes to the current SC boxes so that I will be able to stock pile consistently on FW's and suits + some of those sweet drones (thats 8 drones per box, that's a lot)!
I am yet to read through the Index rules indepth to learn the chanes of the units.
Cheers!

Thank you for encouraging comments Tael.
This one is till going to be quite a doozey...
Here came up with another scheme this weekend where I reversed the grey and khaki colors around and added the Sa'cea sept markings.

EDIT: Damn I'm still really bad at posting visual content here. Here's the picture Tael (bah! why is it so big?!)
Image
Anyways, I am really tempted actually doing this... We'll see how this will turn out in the end.

IS there an online Tau painter where I can test my scheme? Or did you do that yourself?

All good man, no issue being that big - the forum autosizes.

Cheers for linking that Nixon :)

Liking it as a Night Ops Desert scheme - the high points are all subdued greys to limit reflection uncannily. :D

Thanks for the positive vibes on the thread Tael :D

Here's my last post before I will start updating some real stuff. I have been battling in my head over what I want to do with my future army and ended up with these two options as a main color scheme: http://imgur.com/a/U2IiH

As previously mentioned heavily inspired by Tael's urban scheme, the spider tank from the ghost in the shell :P , and overall by US Ranger (?) urbany UCP uniform/gear (which mainly are in grey or tan colors).

There has been just a few hickups which has made me hesitant on the actual project start. First, I am not entirely sure if I want to try out the Vallejo Model Color paint range with specific colors. Haven't had too much experience with them and haven't seen their colors in person to actually compare the tones of (for example) tan colors with current Citadel paint range. But it's been really tempting :-( as I am thinking to expand my view in the painting aspect of the hobby (tight budget limits me of byuing anything extra what I could end up not using).
The second is acquiring the tools for magnetizing. Mainly the drills and drillbits have been a pain in the head. Either I can plop some crazy amount of money into a citadel hand drill (the mould line remover tool already felt like I was beign robbed) or find a small electric one for the same kind of price and save me time and nerves (it's one of those real small low power electric screwdrivers with a drill bit adapter). But finding one of those cheap electric drills has been difficult.
And the last worrying bit is if I need to paint in sub assemblies. I've read a few guides and articles on how it is done and the drill is mainly used in every occasion when you paint a smaller assembly or a part separate from the rest of the miniature. This is really holding me back since I have yet to decide what the heck I should do with my drill situation.

Anyways... sorry for a rambly update yet again (it's been a weird day) but I will be trying my best of getting paints in the next week and actually starting to posting some actual progress.
Feel free to give anything helpful tips on the topic. Thanks, I guess...

Well, I for one am almost entirely Vallejo exclusive. The Model Colour range provides soft matte finish and accepts Citadel Washes really well.

The best thing I ever did was take swatches of colours I like and match to Vallejo bottles in the store. Citadel has finally made some heavy pigment ranges in their basecoat colours, but all Vallejo have been strong one stroke coverage (though still best a couple of thin layers).

That said, if you are more familiar with Citadel, stick with what you know for now and slowly incorporate one or two colours from Vallejo. :)

Thank you for encourangement Tael! I think I will start with more universal colors from Vallejo and get a bottle of black and black grey colors to get myself acquainted with.

I would strongly suggest their Model Colour series black, the Game Colour series paints (geared toward Fantasy etc) are overly satin finish and I have slowly phased them off my paint rack :)

Exactly. I was mainly intrested in the "original" Model Color range due to their wide rnage of realistic color tones (camo greens, tans, browns and greys). So I will definitely getting the black paints from that range.
Thank you :)

Boy I feel nervous! The inner perfectionists urges me to take things slow and careful while I bump and drop every single bit I try to manipulate. The turret and this Fire Warrior are going to be my "test" models even though there is nothing to test anymore and I just need to start painting (goddamnit)! In the pictures you can see how the sub assemblies will mainly work for the majority of the miniatures: the hands and the shoulder plate will be all separate. For succesfull sub assembly paint finish I am tempted just to go and buy the Citadel pin vice (is the Army Painter one any good? It's like twice or more cheaper)!

The sub assemblies.

The final desired pose

A lot, and I mean A LOT of new accesory bits! Some makes sense to me and some not so much... For example the back pack "antenna" piece. Is it an actual representation of some upgrade part for the Strike Team or just an accessory for the Shas'ui? If so, well... I already got the bonding knife for the Shas'ui... Also are there actual magazines included for the pulse rifles? Those things look huge and clunky (really did not expect them to look that way)!

I think that's it for today. Going to get rest of the paints and prime tomorrow or the day after, depends on the weather...

Thanks for reading!

Take a photo of the parts you're confused on and we'll name 'em for yah :D

Nice impending action pose.

The antenna you speak of is likely the drone controller aerial for the Shas'Ui - there should be a kit pamphlet with graphics to show you potential parts on models?

Here are the pictures from the instruction pamphlet with the components I am unsure of.

Image

On the Shas'Ui instruction page it offers quite a lot of gear to put on him and I guess that's a bit too excessive. If the part number 61 is the drone controller/communication antenna then I might as well glue the part for another warrior to assign him the communication duty and spread the responsibilites amongs the team (I got one year of mandatory military experience and I remember that in our teams a separate guy run long range comms). This also inspires me to kit out a couple of the Fire Warriors with only granade puch accessories to mark them as team's pioneers and explosive engineers! The markerlight would be a fitting option for the recon soldier but I guess the team leader gets that one for obvious reasons (I am getting a little bit too excited over here :D ).

The part number 70 in the picture indeed looks like it is the magazine as there is a reloading posing option (a hand holding exactly the same piece)! Those parts look way too unvieldly to my taste as I was planning to accessorize at least one warrior with a so called chest rig to give him some personality as the teams some sort of another specialist. Too bad that the other pouch pieces are limited in their number as I will be only able to assemble one such model per team... I can either opt out for finding some of those universal pouches from the SM tactical scuad or duplicate the existing models with green stuff moulds. Not sure what option is easier or more viable...

So far really slow progress with painting as the weather outside is cold and rainy and I don't want to risk it to spray a poor basecoat.

Thank you guys for reading!

Right, definitely Drone Controller aerial, plus Bonding Knife (pretty sure you got that one sorted :D)

Uhhmm.. all Pusle ammo clips and the far right is Photon Grenades and a clip. :)

All these parts, we're spoiled I tell's yah! ;)

No worries Tael. Been doing pretty much the same. Even if this thread sounds like it is a monolog I don't mind it at all. This helps me to spill out my ideas and thoughts into a stable logging platform (this thread). I am hoping this is okay...

The painting is halted due to shortage of Vallejo paints in my local hobby store which is the only one that carries the whole Vallejo range. Everything vallejo makes... instead of black paint :-(
Took two bottles of dark grey tones and boy what a "waste" that was. They were really similar in color with each other and also with Citadel's greys (Eshin and Mechanicus Standard Grey). That was, uplifting... No refunds either as the paints were "used" (it was only a sigle drop)!

Anyways black paint is what I need and for some reason I refuse to use citadels. I was hoping that Black Grey from VMC line-up would be a rich dark tone but I was wrong. Thetones with Eshin grey armor and the uniform are way too similar.

This weekend will be messy for me and new batch of paints won't arrive until end of next week.

Maybe this log has been a huge let down and kind of a lack luster but at this point I don't mind. I am already thankful for people communicating with me and helping me out with the simple questions I had.

Until next time...
