This is a really good list, it should definitely work well. Minus the Lord of War it looks a lot like my own in fact! I especially like the kit on the Riptide, it should be pretty effective. There are a few changes I'd make though.

First, I don't think you have enough Fire Warriors to justify two Fireblades. I'd drop one, and take more Fire Warriors in his place.

Second, if you want to bring Deep-Striking Fusion Blasters, I'd do it on a Commander. Plasma Rifles and Drone Controllers work better on XV8s I think. The choice of 6x Gun Drones is great though.

Third, I'd change out the Ethereal for Aun'va. It's just 30 more points for a more durable, more effective buff!

Fourth, I wonder if those Pathfinder squads are a little too big. Markerlights are useful, but maybe not that useful? What are you planning to do with them? Also, the tiny squads of 2 Drones apiece are too small I think. Too easy of a Kill Point for your opponent. I'd bring at least four Drones per squad attached to the Pathfinder teams.

Lastly, this might be more personal preference but, it doesn't feel like it has enough battlesuits. There isn't space to add an XV8 squad, but if you re-tool the current XV8 squad to have Plasma or CIBs, then drop one Fireblade and one Pathfnder team, you might have room to fit in a 4x Fusion Blaster Commander.

Anyway, this is already a great list! What do you think?

Firstly, having two pathfinder squads allows for more map coverage and also any good player will target them so they die fast, hence why having more than needed because they will die quickly. Rather than playing this like a single gunline, I go for a capture and hold approach splitting the army almost in two and thus comfortably holding two objectives. I use two fireblades as marker starters as well as leaders for each objectives. The BS2+ is great because it means I can get easy re-roll 1s. This can be combined with pathfinders to light up a landraider, for example, giving me re-rolls of 1 on the pathfinder marker hits. These increases the chance of getting the 5 markers which helps to cripple key targets. As for XV8s, I think plasma is really lack luster. There's a points/wounds table which really helped show that FBs, MPs, and CIBs are the only things worth running. The XV8s are a big-game hunter unit so FBs are neccessary.

The idea of splitting the force in two is an interesting one- definitely try it out and see if it works. I bet there are armies out there that could really take advantage of a force that splits itself (you're pulling a "divide and conquer" on yourself) but if you play it right you could also outmaneuver your enemy. See if it works.

Anyway, about XV8 loadouts. Your "big game hunter" unit has twice the cost and less firepower of a single 4x Fusion Blaster commander. Your 3 XV8s will shoot six Fusion Blaster shots and land 3 of them, 4 if you get 5 Markerlight hits. A single 4x Fusion Blaster Commander can do the same thing for half the points cost and it has a high chance of getting all 4 hits with no Markerlight support. Sadly it is just a superior choice.

Plasma is lackluster compared to 7th Edition. However, it's viable when attacking medium/heavy infantry like Space Marines.

9xPR vs. MEQ - 18 shots > 9 hits > 6 wounds > 5 kills.
9xCIB vs. MEQ - 27 shots > 13.5 hits > 9 wounds > 4.5 kills.

The CIB loadout kills 0.5 fewer Marines but also costs 63 points more. I said to bring CIBs or Plasma Rifles, since I believe both are strong. However CIBs can more effectively engage more targets, they just cost more points.

That's a fair analysis. Tbh, the main reason I run Crisis over a second Commander is due to three things:

1) I don't have a second Commander, and don't want to waste my only Commander as a suicide unit.

2) XV8s take more Drones and thus have more collective wounds. This makes then more durable and means they can hold out longer. This means in the long term they do more than a Commander.

3) As a group they can hold Flamers too, which are strong this edition and again put in work.

I try to think of my XV8s as a specialist "rupture" unit. They land in, kill a vehicle then survive unless my opponent focuses on the unit. Higher durability is soooo important when thinking about T'au now. Vs a Commander they can distract a lot more fire to take them down. So IMHO that makes them worth the extra points. But yeah, a Commander is much more aggressive and on a short term will hurt more. It entirely depends on the playstyle and preference of the army general in the end.
