in a months time will i particpate in a knock out tournament with 16 players, many of whom has already got their codex so ill be a little to the weak side there and due to this will i have to bring my A-game and team. The only restriction is 3 detachments, and there are several space marine players, some Astra mili, 1 ad mech, some orcs, few eldar, maybe 1 necron, and at least 1 tyranid player.

The idea is that i have 4 manta commanders 2 Ion and 2 fusion, these come in hot with my wonderful XV9 DBBC with ats. my backfield is my markerlight support with 3 marksmen and a XV84, along my stealth suits that have the markerlight upgrade and marker drones, to protect my markerlight platform is a riptide with HBC and SMS, supported by 10 shield drones, in order to be able sustain opponents alpha. the Riptide will advance up field and be the distraction the it is supposed to be and hopefully survive in order to protect my characters from fire and thereby wasting the opponents shooting.

What is your thoughts?

I would much rather drop an xv9 squad and the riptide for a stormsurge. Also, I'd rather put a shield gen on the 3 FB commander than the multitracker. It's an awful wargear choice on a commander.

I do have a SS or devilfish (with gd 's) to fill the spot of taking the heat... I just like my Riptide and i Hope to See the frustration As the opponent just cant put wounds in it due to shield drones :D ... I Know that the SS have more firepower and might be the Better choice

Well if I were to play against T'au I'd definitely just ignore the Riptide for most of the game. No frustration found. :D

Well tur list is designed so the only elegible targets ære stealthsuits and their drones, the riptide or the shield drones that protect the riptide... I Hope for Los blocking terrain so i can hide my stealths

Well, here's the problem- the Commanders, Firesight Marksmen, and Fireblade are ineligible targets. The Riptide will be ignored. All of that firepower is going into the Stealthsuits and Drones- don't expect them to last too long.

The Ripide is certainly a fun unit. However, a "distraction" model just won't help in a tournament- people know Riptides are bad now, and it's not going to fool many competitive players I think.

This is why the Stormsurge is the better choice because he can still perform as a distraction carnifex which is what I was trying to give you. Otherwise the smartest choice is loading up on commanders and enough hidden lights to make sure you don't roll 1's to hit and enough drones to keep the commanders safe for a few turns while they turn the opposition into kibble.

i totally see what you both are saying... My meta is compeditive in that sense that people are taking strong units, but still with somekind of fluff i think... not necessarily the absolute strongest build...

I have a stormsurge my self and i will rebuild my list with it in it... i do not have access to Ion blasters (sadly) i think i still want to keep my flamer team.. i have not used them before but they sound fun :fear: :fear: :fear:

Now i got time to sit down and find the points for the SS... removed 2 stealthsuits, the shielddrone squad, switched multi-tracker to shield on commander, and removed 1 GD from a single XV9 (this could also be one shield drone from XV8).

The idea is still to draw attention with the SS and after mantastrike, with the crisis as 9D6 autohits is overwhelming :fear:, just trying to psyke my opponent to ignore my commanders, my amount of anti infantery is high, so i worry not that some part of this is removed.

14 drops in total - 7 in manta.

I constantly think on how to improve the list... i really like the Riptide and in order to make it evenmore durable and a target can i make it my Warlord and then get the tenacious survivor on it? i do not have the rules at hand? this list compared to the previous has a battalion with minimum squads that can be used as chaff and objective holders, but also substitue markerlight generators. the upcoming tournament is running over several month and we cant change the lists, but if i get stratagems then i can use those, so hoping the riptide gets some kind of buff will also help here (shoot twice anyone?) by making the riptide my warlord do i push my opponents to shoot at it with diminishing returns from the shield drones and double 6+++ :fear: :fear: :fear: :fear:

Still the list contain three Xv9 with ATS and 4 GD each as well as 3 fusion manders that hopefully take care of the enemy armour.

Looks like it's a character, not an HQ, that's chosen to be the Warlord, but still Riptides aren't eligible.





By the way, your list looks good. Just a few issues- first, why does only one Commander have a Shield Generator? Seems like that would make targeting too easy for your opponent. Second, you can only use one Homing Beacon per turn, so why have two? Just for safety? And finally, your Stealthsuits look a little... overburdened on wargear. Dump the Marker Drones and Markerlights and you'll save a lot of points. Finally, the 7-model Gun Drone squad is too big- it'll take morale losses heavily. Drop it to 5 or 6 models.

With these changes made, you'll save 86 points. Invest in a nice pair of Pathfinder squads!

I finally got to play the first match! It was against a necron army with the following: a monolith, overlord in commandbarge, a special character (whose name is close to sayin?) that can get powered up, 6 wraith, 9 "bikes" with no upgrades, a triarch stalker, 7 scarabs, 20 warriors, 2x5 immortals with gauss... we used the CA strategems and relics

giving me a battalion, and two vanguard detachments

I started the game and eventhough we where tied on points was i in a better position at the bottom of my turn 4, where he conceeded, where i only had lost my crisis squad, over half of my drones, 12 FW, and 1 xv9... I lost tactical wounds on one commander and 1 xv9 ending them on 1 wound, but still alive :fear: :fear: The riptide took only mortal wounds from nova... the stratagem is AMAZING, and eventhough i rolled good (and used reroll on that dice) then it made it really easy to get 5 markerlight hits, which made my firepower an absolute beast!... i got 5 markerlight hits every turn on one unit... The relic is also really good, and giving a free reroll and the possibility to get CP whenever a stratagem is used is crazy good, got like 3 CP from this (its both from me and my opponent)... i feel i made good target priority and had a great match, my opponent made some mistakes and poor target priority.... His monolith was killed by 2 commanders outside melta range with 5 wounding hits netting me 23 dmg (5,5,4,6,3) :fear: :fear: death to the machines...

@Arka0415: i have the extra homing beacon to create 2 priority targets... i only used one this game, but it could have been important with the two, i have changed the shield on my commander to a DC, this is due to modelling of the specific suit, and since the tournament is wysiwyg, then i cant have CIBs or a third QFC... i liked the loadout of the stealth suits and the forward markerdrones made me able to mark his command barge and blow it to smitherns since he placed it a little too much forward (1 inch)... the drones would otherwise serve as ablative wounds for the stealth if they where targeted in turn one.
