2500pts how to develop

So I've recently got back into 8th so this is a mix of what I had from 5th and 6th ed and what I've bought recently.

I've not used this yet last game was 1500 but that was before I bought some stuff :D

Looking for tips on developing the list further.

The plan is to put the breachers in the fish, the ethereal and fireblade next to the 2 firewarriors units

1 stealth team to help get Flamer suits close
1 for objectives grabbing + general nuisance
Lots of Marines and Admech in my circle so fusion keel was the better choice
And putting both weaponized pathfinders teams next to each other to mutually benefit from recon and grav drone.

R'ymr and plasma suits for elite hunting

In general this is a solid, versatile list- however, I see three big weaknesses.

1. Your XV8s need Gun Drones. They're simply too easy to kill otherwise.

2. You need to cut down on the number of single drones, they're too weak in Maelstrom, Kill Point, and tournament games.

3. Plasma Rifles don't make for very good XV8s, you'll need Cyclic Ion Blasters if you want to put a dent in elite infantry.

These are big changes in terms of points- you need 144 points worth of Gun Drones on the XV8s, and 42 points of CIBs on the XV8s. We need to free up 186 points somewhere. Let's start with the Gun Drones on the Stealthsuits (-16), the Shield Drones on the Ethereal and his Hover Drone (-21), the wargear on the Stealthsuits (-36), the Seeker Missiles on your Piranhas and Devilfish (-20), the two Support Turrets (-40), the Technical Drones (-32), and the Pathfinder drones (-20). We should also swap the Ghostkeel's Velocity Tracker for a Target Lock (+4). I'm also going to combine the Pathfinder squads (gotta keep those Rail Rifles alive) and drop the Fusion Blaster from the Piranha. Here's how the list looks now:

I do like it but in a tournament you're capped at 3 detachments so I would likely move it to Battalion and 2 vanguard so 8CP.

Also do you really need gun drones on the missile suits? For the same points I cam bring back the technical drones and recon drone for pathfinders.

I know they aren't great for kill point games but Admech keep sniping my commander so I'd like a way to heal him, and I think 12pts for a 2 wound gun drone that let's pathfinders ignore cover is a steal tbh especially vs Marines that switch from 3-4+ vs ion and 6+-no save vs rail rifles is worth the risk

Remember that the three detachments rule is a suggestion. Not all tournaments follow it, and it'll certainly never matter in non-tournament games.

Missile Pod XV8s are a very expensive unit (admittedly, also one of dubious tactical value, but that's another discussion altogether). Many Space Marine players would be happy to kill a 100-point model with a single Lascannon shot. Also, remember the synergy between short-range and long-range units: the Gun Drones can get within 18" of a target and shoot it, while protecting the XV8s which are shooting over their heads at faraway targets.

Remember that a single Recon Drone or a pair of Technical Drones is just First Blood/Kill Point/Victory Point/Maelstrom Objective bait... especially if there are Admech snipers on the board who would be happy to pick off those Drones on turn 1.

6 of 1 half a dozen of the other by the look of it :D

In either case I didn't mention that I only have limited numbers of drones so I'll keep the recon drone and technical drones until I've tried it a bit more and put more drones on my wishlist :biggrin:
